How does Sup Forums feel about gaming pads?

how does Sup Forums feel about gaming pads?

I haven't used a keyboard for gaming in 10 years and I'll be damned if I ever go back

I was thinking about buying this Orbweaver I found on Craigslist. I'm not quite enough of a sperg to buy an Orbweaver Chroma just to match it with the blue LEDs in my rig, and this looks to be a decent price. Not sure if I feel like buying it just now, though.

I mostly just want a pad so I can put it between my HOTAS for games like Star Citizen and Elite, and also possibly for use with my wacom tablet for photoshop. I used to have a Nostromo N52 that I really liked using for art applicaitons, but unfortunately Belkin discontinued support for it so any OS newer than XP doesn't work with the mapper software, making it just about useless.

I'm not sure if I want to drop $80 on this thing and put up with bright green lights in my face or not, but on the other hand it's a lot cheaper than the eBay price. I'm torn.

Never found one with enough rows.

Used (pictured) in my gaming setup when I sat on a sofa with my monitor on an arm attached to the wall. felt that it compromised my performance.

Needs one more row.

I've been using this for the past 10 years, love it. Switches suck but the functionality is fantastic.

couldn't you also use a mmo mouse with it?

I wanna grab one to help with art apps too. that one looks caked in dust tho
at that point just use a keyboard or like and get a naga

Yeah that Orbweaver does look like it's seen some shit. I think I would rather pay a few bucks more and get the experience of having a shiny new one to break in myself. I'm not in a huge rush to get one anyway since I still haven't bought a CH throttle yet.

I'd probably buy one if there was a model with mechanical switches AND not Razer.

Why wouldn't you just use a keyboard. Unless you're playing MMOs, I don't understand what benefit a gamepad could possibly add.

Keyboards are the least ergonomic input devices around. People who use them for gaming are absolute suckers.

>AND not Razer
in know this feel. looking at others in this thread and razer's look the best.
well i play mobashit
i also have a habit of misplacing my hands after i come back after a piss break and i travel a lot so lighter is better

inb4 e-sports but can you name a single professional in any game that actually uses a gamepad? I'm genuinely curious.

I want an Orbweaver, G13 is pretty uncomfortable.

Looks like shit.

Fuck no

this AND not cost 2x the price of a full mechanical keyboard while it only being 1/3 the parts

I bought a Belkin Nostromo (or something like that) years and years ago. I though it'd be great for WoW, but at that time I was a shitty clicker and then I stopped playing WoW before I ever used it. I paid like $40 for it and literally never used it.

Pointless.

>like using a mouse and a controller at the same time.
>compact

I did a bit research, and it seems like Razer is indeed the only manufacturer making gaming keypads with mechanical switches.
The only thing I managed to find is this thing on Ali.

got a mouse from ali and it died after a little less than a year of light gaming. are there brands to watch for?

is there anything extremely bad about razer outside the price and label?? the tartarus is only 50 bucks so i feel like it's worth it for editing and the vidya i play

I have the G13. I seriously wish Logitech gives me a better thumbstick and give me mechanical switches. Otherwise, I like it.

As for the Orbweaver, RGB is a meme. Don't need it.

>is there anything extremely bad about razer outside the price and label??

everything

Quality of Razer product gone downhill significantly as of lately. And the price they ask for shitty Kailh knock-off switches is ridiculous.

I wouldn't buy anything Razer except maybe Deathadder

please tell me that chuckle fuck is getting sponsored.
ah it looks like they see beats and other shit raising prices for a label and people actually buying it thinking it makes them superior and want in of that.
>i wont buy shit except maybe if it's shit with a little corn in it

I got one too, for WoWing. used it once and thought it was a bit shit.

Recently been thinking it might be decent paired with a joystick for some oldschool mechwarrior action, though.

I'm playing shitty MMOs not piloting a fucking space shuttle.

There's no reason to have such a device when the keyboard exists.

I own an orbweaver.

I like it, but it's overpriced for what it is. I'd get the Tartarus instead since it's the same thing but cheaper but even that's overpriced.

The upcoming hori model (pic related) looks to be the best model period for this sort of thing since it combines the Orbweaver/tartarus ergonaomics with an actual analog stick like the g13, so if it ends up being good and games support the analog input, that'd be the clear one to go for, but it's really, really expensive too, so...

The Tartarus is 70$ new, so if you are gonna get a keypad, you might as well jump on the craiglist' listing unless you wanna see how the Hori model ends up being.

I've had no issues with the orbweaver in the almost 3 years i've had it. It's just more expensive then it should be.

that looks really nice user. too nice. im guessing int in the 200$+ range? i plan on getting the tartarus since it looks like it does everything i need it to since I dont really care about it being razer

How good does it works with PC? since it's for PS4

That's why I say "if it ends up being good". The amazon page says it has PC support but said PC support might be shit.

Hori: 150$
Orbweaver: 130$
Tartarus: 70$
G13: 60$

This is assuming USD. There's a few other models but these are really the only ones worth giving a shit about

I'm considering getting one for art program keybinds.

BROTHER

An overpriced quarter of a keyboard, some models are less than that even. Comfortable but that's it.

Sucks that barely any of them actually have analog joysticks to begin with.

i bought the Tartarus like the one in OP's pic

I do like it, except the fact that its membrane under the keys.

They get sticky after using them for a few hours and its really infurating when your button presses arn't recognised, kinda wished i'd the orbweaver as it has mechanical keys

but other than that issue its kinda comfy to use with my mouse and mouse pad on this little wooden board i have, while rocking slowly in my lazy boy and a blanket over me. pretty comfy senpai. would recommend

I bought the Logitech g13 on sale a while back. Thinking of replacing it with an Orbweaver or Tartarus.

Its one of those things where if you start using it you'll never want to go back to a standard keyboard again.

The analog stick is shit btw at least on my g13. Shit is stiff as an erect penis. Like how the fuck are you supposed to move it comfortably with your thumb alone? But even without using it I still use it for every game I play.

>Paying money for a worse version of a device you already own
???
?????

I've used both the g13 and orbweaver, I ended up going with the orbweaver because the ergonomics were better and as you said, the sitck on the g13 is so shit the fact it has a stick isn't even a pro.

That said, i'd wait for the hori, as I said in

do you sweat a lot? or eat while playing? that's a major flaw if you dont do either of those

Nah I dont think I got that kind of money to drop on a gaming pad alone.

I can probably find a decent mouse or keyboard replacement with the Orbweaver at 150.

My dumb ass thought I was getting the better pad too.
>"Aw shit nigga it's got a screen too??"

I never use that dumbass calculator screen

>buy new game
>have to waste time in the key bindings menu just to make sure that some critically necessary key isn't mapped to a button that's not on the pad

Other than that annoyance though, I'd never go back to a regular keyboard. Using an orbweaver is too comfortable. Oh and being able to change the color of the lights would be a nice feature. I fucking hate green, so I've got them turned off at the moment.

no but i did spill a SMALL amount of fizzy drink on it ONCE, which i cleaned out thoroughly. thats the only thing i could put it down to.

my main keyboard is mechanical and im soo used to the clicky clacky feel of mechanical that the squish of a membrane keypad is unnatural so it might just be me.

I was interested in getting one for a while due to slightly more controler due to the stick, but when I'd only use it for a few games, and I'd rather not have shit I don't really use that often. My G25 and G940 are collecting dust becuase I'm always too lazy to hook them up.

That's the one thing the g13 has over the Orbweaver, you can change the color to anything you want and have color profiles for different games.

I'm still getting an orb though

time to gibe the sheckles for the chroma version.

ive been on a laptop/surface since '12 and just built my rig using an old compaq keyboard and now THAT feels uncomfortable and im used to shitty laptop keyboards

only the g13 and the hori have an actual stick. at that point you you should just pick up a controller.

All that Razer gear but no Razer Blade or the Razer branded case

>Razer Blade

That was the laptop right? Didn't that get shitcanned?

>no razer scooter
pleb tier desu

Is there a way to try this shit out? I want one for ergonomic play and I see a lot of variation.

Electronics and their vendors are very much a buy it before you try it, then fuck off industry.

I've never seen any store have them hooked up to try, at least not in the US. Sometimes certain bestbuy or fry's will have them out so you can press them and shit, but the only way to actually try is to buy it. You can return it if you don't like it, but there are only a few places that are hassle free returns.

Have this, but it's just the same as using cursor keys and numpad which I prefer anyway. I just move the keyboard far left of desk so my arm doesn't get fucked up. they're handy if you want everything intuitively placed though, Standard WASD layout is retarded I think, no idea how people can use it.

Does it worth 30 bucks? A guy I know want to sell his.

If you have limited desk space and have other peripherals you need for a particular game like a simulator, a keypad can be very useful. They're also a lot more ergonomic than a full-sized keyboard and allow your wrists to be much closer together.

A ten-keyless keyboard is a pretty significant improvement regarding ergonomics, but it's still not ideal for gaming.

I got a G13 for digital painting. Thought that using them for gaming was a meme but they work. Surprisingly comfy. I only wish it had textured keys.

You can autodownload profiles in the logitech one

Bestbuy

For me I have baby hands so I switched to a keypad since keyboard keys are too big.

That Hori pad looks really nice, but will it come with profile mapping software? That's kind of essential for a good pad so I need to know.

Anyway to get the Hori keypad without the mouse?

There seems to be a basic one. I've not followed Hori for a few years. Back in the day, PC support was all from the community, I guess they figured out that a lot of people use their shit on PC.

Maybe I will buy the Orbweaver on CL and clean it up then. I have to see how much money I'm going to have this week though, because I got a really good deal on a 20" Sony PVM for $100 but that's still setting me back a few bucks, plus various other retro gaming things that I dumped money on.
