Because Geralt technically catapults the sword from his back with a fast motion, which is something the can do because he's a Witcher. First game was the closest one to nail that.

Everything about Roach in this game is absolutely fucking disastrous. By far the worst movement and controls I've ever seen. Much easier to just run everywhere.

To me CDPR is a prime example of a studio that improves over time. They made w1 a good game with some flaws, w2 improved in almost every way, w3 then scaled up while trying to maintain the quality standards they reached in w2.

Roach controls like garbage but that does not mean it's easier to run everywhere. He saves a lot of time.

2 has the most intriguing story, more politics and conspiracy between factions. Way better than Witcher 3's magic fantasy shite with a metal band as the main villains. Why did the massive war between Nilfgaard and Redania take such a back seat?

The Nilfgaard/Northern Kingdoms conflict is still going on. That's why the game focuses so much on Novigrad as a free city held by neither one. As it's biggest trading partner, Kovir has (as before) a vested interest in keeping Nilfgaard out of the north for fear of them breaking their peace agreements and as such is probably pulling the same backwards funding shit as before to support Redania. I agree it's too bad this isn't really brought up more than it is, but to me it seems clear that there's a qualm in the fighting since Nilfgaard took Temeria, Aedirn as well as apparently Gors Velen/Velen and probably Rivia as well, which leaves the only remaining kingdoms as Redania, Kaedwen, Kovir and Poviss, with both sides probably just preparing for further conflict at that point.

If the stakes are "Geralt wins or the entire world gets destroyed" there's absolutely no tension. The ending is inconsequential and predictable as hell. The Wild Hunt can not achieve any victory, the good guys can not lose.

It's more "Ciri wins against the White Frost or the world gets destroyed in about 3 thousand years" or so Nimue guesses, which is shit that happens totally outside of anything involving the Wild Hunt.

The Wild Hunt and Eredin want to take Ciri back to Tir na Lia to impregnate her so her children can be used to help them open portals to other worlds, including the world of the Continent to bring the Aen Shie elves back over and enslave the humans before the White Frost comes. So, over the span of thousands of years.

The direct tension is keeping these fuckers away from your daughter, specifically the lead fucker and regicide Ereden from trying to impregnate her.

This is pretty much exactly how the books end in terms of tension, except Geralt and Yen are dead and Ciri is running around with Galahad.

There's a fast sword skill that lets you spin in a circle but it eats stamina.
You could also try upgrading quen to at least get the sustained bubble and move out of the circle.
Igni and Aard just as basic spells will give you an out too.
There's a lot of options to get out of rape circles.
