I'm not very far into this game yet, but all in all I'm not really feeling it

I'm not very far into this game yet, but all in all I'm not really feeling it.

I thought I might like it because I thought it might have some similarities to Nier at least in world building, gameplay and music, but it generally just doesn't.

The gameplay so far has been pretty boring. Nier picked up a fair bit in this regard once I started getting different spells to use.

Can I expect this game to get better in some ways that would make me want to keep playing it?

Reminder that dumb ass Cent has the same voice actor as Weiss from nier

How'd you enjoy Nier's gameplay but dislike DR3's? It's way better.

Draken one and two should have taught you. These are just pretty games. There really isn't anything enjoyable about playing them. Especially late game where it becomes simple button mashing in order to stay alive. I played through them all but I am a weeb and like le epic anime which is really the crowd these games are for

>I'm not very far into this game yet

I knew better things awaited me in Nier. I know nothing of this game, and it doesn't have the relaxed, comfy, semi open world and chill soundtrack supporting it.

I'm not trying to drop it, I'm just looking for motivation to play it more than a mission or two at a time a week.

>ME ZERO
>KILL SISTER
>FUCK SHIT DAMN FUCK
>OOGA BOOGA GENERIC HUMAN MOB

There is actual character development over the entire game.

There's multiple branches in the game. Because of the way the main character's drive and how she just kind of cuts down her sisters without much interaction in the first branch it can feel kind of hollow. But there's a lot more nuance to the relationships between the characters and the world itself as you keep going. I'd super recommend playing the dlc stories after Branch A, they are pretty good and make the subsequent branches feel a little heavier.

I like Drakengard and I've seen two(2) anime series in total.

>I thought I might like it because I thought it might have some similarities to Nier at least in world building, gameplay and music, but it generally just doesn't.
First mistake, this is drakengard not nier.

Not going to lie, the reason why I stuck with it is because I wanted to know what secret laid behind this absolute madman of a developer who seemed like intentionally made the game a pain in the ass to play and didn't stop there. To access branch D you not only have to beat branches A-C, you have to find the hidden verses and collect every single weapon in the game. Obviously he doesn't want just anyone to reach the ending, but it feels so overboard. All the casuals and people not committed to the game would have stopped playing after branch A.
I kept myself spoil free for years.

I also wanted to see if the final boss was horseshit or people just couldn't into 4/4 time signature.

But
>DLC

Unless you didn't mean
>PAID DLC

There's also a lot of good side material. Seems like that the whole multimedia experience is one of Taro's things. The little stories you can read online for each of the characters are pretty good, even if they aren't essential to enjoying the game.
drakengard.wikia.com/wiki/Novellas

So are the branches like in Nier, where I have to more or less beat half the fucking game again each time?

and kuroiuta to you young lady.

no they have different enemies and dialogue
>but the same maps

The game is supposed to be unenjoyable to play
Taro is going the crazy auteur route

Yes.

That's DoD1, not 3.

It's different missions/bosses/story all together.

AND two short manga, one before and one after branch A. You can read them here:

Someday i will marry a girl like Zero.

>Can I expect this game to get better in some ways that would make me want to keep playing it?

Honestly no. The gameplay never really improves, and everyone says there's character development but there really isn't. The only real develop is all the disciples kinda become a bit more tolerable but they still end up as incredibly convoluted and still weirdly sexual characters. The graphics permanently remain ass, as does the artstyle of pretty much every zone, which is incredibly disappointing considering how gorgeous the CG intro movie is.

The music is pretty decent though. Some songs are very repetitive but the main theme and the boss songs (particularly the final boss song) are amazing.

Like said, the only reason why I stuck with the game was to see if there really was gold at the end of the shit-covered rainbow. I have never quite played a game that I'm convinced that the lead developer created to torture and intentionally throw off people who bought his game, and I forced myself to beat it because I was convinced that I was missing something and it would all click together at the end.

It didn't click together at the end. At all.

But it's great knowing you beat a game that turned off so many other people, and you beat a relatively simple final boss that gives everyone else such a hard time. If nothing else, that alone justified the $60 purchase on release. It's a pretty autistic reason to justify beating a game, but I guess you have to have autism to beat it in the first place.

On a side note, consider reading the novellas. They have legitimately decent/tolerable writing, and I liked the portrayal of the characters in them a lot more.

It's truly baffling to me how this game has like one doujin.

And it's completely out of character gangbang rape.

Link?

You know, normally I'm all for helping other people out on finding h-material, but literally all you need to do is search drakengard in sadpanda, or even g.e. There isn't even a full page.

Aight, I think this game may be going on the backburners for the next forever.

I'm going to play a game that is probably good that won't be named because fuck you guys.

What game user

>taro always says that he don't make the same game twice
>expected nier 2 when the title said drakengard 3 anyway

is your fault

One of the games main themes is to equate the Life (Sex) Drive with the Death Drive, that killing is as natural and good for the world as creating new life. Its a progression from Drakengard and Nier. Drakengard was made at time when Taro was looking around at all these Dynasty Warriors kind of games that praised you for your kill count and and thought "This is insane, if you killed a 100 people you'd be a despicable serial killer." So he made the first Drakengard with the idea that the entire playable cast are insane deplorable people and what you are doing should feel bad. Then after the events of 9/11 Taro realized his thinking was wrong, that you don't have to be insane to kill, just having a strong motivation is enough. So Nier was made as a tragedy with both sides killing for good reason and the killing itself being a morally grey area.

So yes sex is present a lot in the game, and it is displayed and talked about in a really weird way, but there's reasons behind it. He talks about it in a youtube video:
youtube.com/watch?v=LD6xCLlF5dY

And here's a GDC conference he did about his game making process: gdcvault.com/play/1020815/Making-Weird-Games-for-Weird

>Trying to spoil my prospective geimu on me

Drakengard 3's not very good and doesn't get much better. If you're not enjoying it, you're probably better off just watching cutscenes or something if you really were invested, or just putting it down.

It's disappointing either way and doesn't deliver on the kind of tone and content that the pre-release short stories gave. And the whole story's a shitty thing where the main character is doing something "shocking" and they never give the context as to why even though she knows exactly why, just so they can pull that bullshit out at the very end, with no change to the plan whatsoever, and otherwise cut the camera away if they were going to discuss any context on what you're doing. The plot's static as all fuck.

Well that's a damn shame. Were this a shorter game I'd just go through with it, but I've got many, many other fuckin' games to play.

Gon' go play Binary Domain

I mean, I never said the inherent idea behind the heavy sexual tones was bad.

I do believe, however, that the disciples never particularly evolve past being 1 dimensional sex objects, and it's particularly jarring compared to the seriousness of the conflict between Zero and the sisters. Mikhail was a very silly character, but at least he had a lot of dark and serious moments that redeemed him in my eyes.

The only disciple who ever really got past the whole "look at me I have a weird fetish" shtick was Cent, which also made him a lot more bearable in my mind.

>Implying I'm not just looking to make light conversation at 11 at night

But whatever, enjoy your game user.

We can have light conversation about the last game I played.

Ys Origin

>liking cent
>at all
you can at least say that decadus is the most level headed of the group when he is not thinking about getting his balls kicked

I sort of got the impression that the disiples are meant to be simple characters by design. I mean the sisters are the real supporting cast of the game, the disiples I think are just supposed to be a kind mirror for them and their internal problems. They are often sex objects but at the same time they literally were birds until a year before the game. All animals care about is food and fuck. And the sisters were only a year old too, they were born destined to die and grew to adulthood in an instant, the desire to live (procreate) was incredibly intense for that reason..

Nier fans are so delusional. They say their game is good but in reality the combat hasTHE worst ARPG combat ever.

Hey I love Ys Origin. It's like, my favorite JRPG on Steam. Which isn't saying much because there isn't that many great JRPGs on Steam, but I mean, having only played Ark and Seven on the PSP, Origins was a pleasant surprise.

You seem cool user. Hope you enjoy your game/night.

How is Cent not the most likable?

Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's unreasonable for the disciples to act the way they do. That doesn't make it likable though, and I certainly don't feel comfortable recommending someone play a game with them as your main comic relief/foil for the 17 or so hours that the game lasts.

Play Oath for sure then. Assuming you modded your PSP you can just get it like that, or get Oath on Steam all the same.

Oh I mean, I've played through the majority of them by now. I was just referring to the time I started Origins.

I just like it for the femdom

Funny.

I looked at gameplay vids of this and Nier on what to get and this looked way better.

It is. Nier sucks

Why did they make such important content DLC? I still haven't played them cause they're so expensive.

Yeah, D3 has the best gameplay out of the series, but that's not saying much. The gameplay has always been the weakest aspect of the drakengard series. People don't like the games for the gameplay of these games.

The weakest aspects is its OST, forgettable as shit.

D2 has a shitty OSt aside from one song which is just a vocals only song from the first game. D1, D3, and nier all have great OSTs.

Hard to say, but you get like 18 missions, some weapons, and learn more about the sisters/disciples relationships and internal thoughts, which can make you read the events of the later branches in a different light.

I mean if you don't want to pay you could always just watch it: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3hOqGZMjs47Xu5L_4DPbH1Nqrdpr8-0X DLC starts on ep. 55

Nah it's Zero

2 had a far better ost than 3 desu, you should relisten to it sometime.

Never been a fan of just watching things on Youtube unless I would have absolutely no intention of playing it anyway. Might get them spaced out whenever I feel like it.

2 sounds too much like generic fantasy setting music and too uninteresting compared to the other 3 games in the series

FUCK YOU

I finished D3 last night. Had to use a timing guide for the final boss. Glad to be done, but I kinda miss it already.

I beat it once, but I can't get though another playthough. I can't handle the frame rate and having to restart so far away everytime I die. Nier had much better pacing and fights just went by better. Makes me feel like a casual, but I just fall asleep everytime I try to get ending B.
