Hey Sup Forums, I am going to college in a week and decided to bring an old PS1 with me but I want to play the games I missed out playing when I was a kid. What are the best games I can play on this?
Games I own:
>spyro trilogy
>tekken 3
>gran turismo 2,3
>alien
>kula world
>some random disney games (hercules, tarzan, bugs bunny)
PS1 essentials
FFVIII is the only acceptable choice
...
...
Steel Cogwheel Sturdy
What "alien" do you mean, Alien trilogy or Alien resurection?, I find both games quite good but resurection is way harder than trilogy.
About some recomendations you could play:
-Parasite eve 1 and 2.
-Resident evil 1, 2 and 3.
- Silent Hill.
- Crash Bandicoot.
- Castlevania: Symphony of the night.
- Dino crisis 1 (if you like survival horror style) or 2 (if you like more arcade thing).
- Medal of Honor.
- Nightmare creatures (if you feel like throwing your controller away in rage).
- Brace fencer Musashi.
- 007: The world is not enough.
- Heart of darkness.
- Alone in the dark: The new nightmare.
Just to name some of what I've played last year.
Also, just about every Crash Bandicoot game on PS1.
Why does no one ever recommend Medievil? That shit was so fetch.
Crash Trilogy, Rayman, Tombi, SotN.
Killer Loop is a pretty neat game I always liked
Sorta like Wipeout but with a cylindrical track and you can magnetise to the ceiling
Get Wipeout too ofc
Op said best, not worst
The legend of dragoon and Shadow Madness
I recommend Macross VFX-2 and the three Ace Combat games on PS1. You can start with 2 or 3 if you like since they are not direct sequels.
I wish I didn't forget the name of the other Mecha games I would otherwise recommend.
Armored Core
Front Mission 3
Omega Boost
Future Cop LAPD
god tier
Those are great. But when I was younger I used to play obscure mecha games. They were so obscure that weeb might not even describe me back then. I think they didn't even have English names. Sorry for putting you on an endless task.
god tier too
you should study more and get tuppwerware so you can put the cafeteria food in your tupperware instead of your cargo pockets.
Everyone before this post is a faggot for not mentioning Crash Team Racing.
I also remember Ape Escape, I loved the game a lot.
>jrpgs
My nigs
Yeah I mean ressurection, I remember the last part with Xenomorph Queen that was super difficult for me.
Thanks those recommendations seem just what I was looking for. I already played Silent Hill on emulator.
Oh I had many DEMOs and I remember it being there, that's a good rec thanks. Also since then I alway spell Mediaval Medievil.
Great I'll look into those.
Super Robot Wars Alpha
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden
Vanguard Bandits
There's a bunch, dude
>Metal Gear Solid
>Persona 2 Eternal Punishment (also Innocent Sin and Persona 1 if you speak japanese)
>FF VII-IX and Tactics
>The Crash games
>Armored Core
>Silent Hill
>Resident Evil 1-3
read
the guy covered it well enough
If you have lightgun, which can be purchased for PS1, I'd recommend Time Crisis too.
...
...
Damn the PS1 and 2 were so godly. What happened?
WipEout
WipEout 2097/XL
WipEout 3/Special Edition
Destruction Derby Raw
G-Police
G-Police Weapons of Justice
Colony Wars
Colony Wars Vengeance
Colony Wars Red Sun
Funny how all the best western games come from a single dev.
There's also
Future Cop LAPD
Armored Core
Ace Combat
Anyone played Demolition Racer? I loved it.
Wipeout sounds interesting, don't you know by any chance a similar game (also had a demo of it) and there were like these cars with huge wheels that were gooing by insane speeds and could drive on both sides.
I would love to play more mecha games, thanks
Heh thanks, I am a junior so I don't know what to expect but I want to bring the ps1 to attract other nostalgiafags and make friend or whatever.
Is it better than Mario Kart?
Oh yeah I already replied to him, ut all sounds great desu. Lightgun?
Rollcage
...
Pretty much what people have already posted and off the top of my head some awesome RPG's
>Grandia
>Breath of Fire 3
>Alundra
>FF7/8
I'm biased because I enjoyed it before playing MK. But yes, it is better, even though MK sets the bar quite high.
devil dice
jackie chan stunt master
gekido
fighting force 1 skip 2
siphon filter
gex
that bomberman srpg if it's translated
Thanks!
Sweet never Enough RPGs. I also enjoyed Digimon World 3, totally forgot about it.
Ohh that's pretty fucking great then.
No idea how it is yet to be mentioned, makes me fairly sad that it hasn't being the gem that it is, but Legend of Mana by far if you want a joyride and a good story with a shitload of side content.
>siphon filter
Wow I forgot all about this game. I remember spending so much time playing it with my best friend from school.
Why doesn't gaming still bring me this much joy ;_;
kys my man
Let's not forget SaGa Frontier 1 and 2 for that matter.
The amount of times I have played this game.. easily one of the best games I've played in my life up there with Secret of Mana.
Give Alien trilogy a shot if you can, is a nice shooter. It was my first ps1 game along with the console.
Another few recomendations:
- Ridge Racer Type 4.
- Apocalypse.
- Bust a groove (if you like rythm games, I love this game).
- Clock tower (for some point 'n click horror)
- Fear Effect and FE 2: Retro Elix (sequel)
- Galerians
- Incredible Crisis
- No Fear: Downhill Mountain Bike Racing
- Rosco McQueen: Fire Fighter Extreme.
- Wild 9
- Tony Hawk pro skater 2.
How the fuck has no one mentioned Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus
>FF8
>no 9
You're just too young, FF9 was always babbies first FF on first-gen. It's fucking terrible, immature kiddyish shit.
Marry me.
Pic releated
If you are this bitter about any PSX game at all, then you probably need to walk out. This is a good-times thread, senpai
>babbies first FF
>not 7
I'm 26, and FF9 is my favourite, 8 is a piece of broken shit.
Okay
We'll have a cactus do the ceremony.
GOAT. Though I wish LoM was more difficult. It really takes me out of it when the entire game can be beaten so easily by mashing one button. You have to make a beeline for the ending so you can switch to Nightmare mode to get any semblance of challenge, but then it goes full retard and OHKOs you. If you make better equipment (and you can make OP shit), you'll OHKO THEM instead, which brings you back to the problem: You might as well have not turned up the difficulty at all.
This didn't use to be a problem when I was younger but nowadays I stumble upon this issue so fucking often.
>ps1
Guess we know someone to do the music.
-Silent Hill
-Resident Evil 1-3
-MediEvil 1 & 2
-Final Fantasy VII-IX
-Spyro 1-3
-Dino Crisis 1-2
-Vagrant Story
-Metal Gear Solid
-G-Police games
-Oddworld -games
-Gex: Deep Cover Gecko
-Alundra
-Parasite Eve 1 & 2
-Crash Bandicoot 1-3
-Crash Team Racing
No... aaand nope.
FF9 is literally a gentlemen's choice for best FF ever, appealing to pre-PS1 era nostalgia, and being overall a comfy and pretty game.
Already called for catering, myself.
Vampires not included.
Is it spoopy tho? Well O guess no ps1 game can be actually spooky nowadays.
>tony hawk pro scater 2
Ohh I loved that even though I only played a demo.
Does anyone know about a Snowboard game that was quite similar? It had huge jumps and tricks, and I awlays chose a cool street guy with a wool hat and I think you could change your boards and stuff.
Will check out all of those as I think I'll love them, thanks.
It's something one goes knowing, but yes. The game is not a difficult one, but more for the exploration or the whacky ways of forming your party and going for discovering every flashy and impractical way you could possibly do things in.
I can understand why many people find it an issue in this day and age with what videogames moving on. But there is so much to the game's storyline, feeling, setting, characters and customization that I can never stop loving it for the lovely masterpiece it is. And I am so glad it got the awards it deserved.
What was the deal with the crafting too, I mean it was so in-depth and confusing for a game those days. I remember grinding the spirits/essences for days..
Oh and the pets were awesome too, I loved the amount of additional side content there was.
>Well O guess no ps1 game can be actually spooky nowadays.
You clearly have never played Silent Hill OR the Aliens games.
These i played when i was younger so yea...rate them...
>MediEvil
>Gex
>Monsters Inc. Scare Island
>Harry potter and the chamber of secrets
>Medal of Honor
Also i remembered playing this demo a lot, in wich you tryed to go to the city and you passed a forest then a cave encountering a Giant Snake, if anyone knows the game im talking about pls tell me the name of the game
Is way less because facehuggers can't implant an alien even when they climb to your face, you just loose some health and that's it .
For snowboarding try coolboarders 3, I used to play the demo from that game along with RR type 4 one all the time.
You really got me hooked guys, are there any beginners tips for Mana?
I remember spending weeks on this game as a kid the first time I played it, same with Resident Evil when playing with my bro, both shit scared.
Yet you go back to them now and complete them in like 3-6 hours.
>Blindly experimenting with crafting was pretty much pic related.
And the golem system too. Fucking shitload of skills for your golems, and they don't even have any plot relevance. They just went, fuck it. I want golems. And a whole system for them.
>Yet you go back to them now and complete them in like 3-6 hours.
I can complete them under 2 hours these days, but many sections in SH and specific things in old REs still unnerve me great deal.
Especially Team-Silent's audio design is simply haunting and genius.
There's a NG+ feature, so just jump in and enjoy yourself, if you ever miss something you can catch it on the next playthrough etc.
It's a really uplifting game, very comfy to play. I usually complete it every year along with Secret of Mana with my bro who comes round mine every Christmas-time. It's like a little tradition of ours.
Vigilante 8
Vigilante 8 2
Intelligent Qube
Diablo
Overboard!
Doom
Quake 2
Hexen
Explore, explore, explore. Always talk to your Cactus after every adventure, always go back to places you've already been after an adventure. Try everything and don't sweat minmaxing because the game really isn't hard.
Also you can make golems strong, but it requires some real investment time to figure them out.
Dragon god is best storyline, there's three that you can do that'll let you get to endgame story.
Smithing, Enhancing, Instruments for Casting Spells, Golems, Pets, Farming!
It's like what didn't this game have?
The best tip I can give ya is;
If it ever seems like nothing is going on, revisit the same areas with different party members, or at different times of the week. Most cities have different events that only activate at a very certain time of the game, or with certain party members.
Make sure to explore, talk with NPCs and take it chill.
OH. And. There are skills in the game you equip in your normal action buttons. Such as dash, jump, etc.
Try different combinations of them. Different weapons with different skills equipped unlock new skills and specials.
There is a shitload of stuff to discover.
The LoM discussion going on in here makes me feel happy. Such a great game, and I'd be in the wrong if I didn't join in by posting the theme of my favorite boss fight.
BEAST.
>Vigilante 8
my nigga
It even had stealthy child adoption so you can feel all the pain and drama of taking care of someone else's children!
Enough commercial success?
Especially not for how great it was.
>Irwin's whole plot
I WAS NOT READY TO FEEL
NOT AFTER THE JUMI PLOT
Extra for jolliest city

This tune always hits me right in the nostalgia.
loved this when I was a kid. Anyone know if it aged well?
I finished LoM for the first time about a month ago. The atmosphere is great and I like how original and one of a kind the game is, however there's a lot of really frustrating quests. Fortunately, you don't need to do most of them.
Great game nevertheless.
it aged whole lot, now it plays in "so bad it's good" way
controls can be a bit iffy
There you go my homie
Ay my man!
We always had a blast playing that game. The cinematics were also top notch!
youtube.com
>fucking niccolo quests
Stop giving me quests! You have TOO MANY QUESTS!
Any non english speaking anons here? I want to replay and play the games I haven't in years mainly because I couldn't speak english back then and I haven't understand what the plot is about. Do you know tfw?Well I was scared shitless playing Alien and RE when I was little and not understanding how it works and the graphics really startled my imagination. But I played Silent Hill on emulator a while back and even though it still had a good atmosphere I wasn't scared. I remember playing it at my friends house and was literally shaking because of the flying faggots and dogs and shit. I guess I became a dull adult also thisThat's a shame but I'll definitely play it. I reallt think it might be Coolboarders, but I couldn't find the character I played as yet.
That sounds super comfy
>along with Secret of Mana
I thought that's the game you are talking about.
Thanks btw I'll dive in blind
>explore
I love exploration in games a lot I really have my hopes high about this.
Thanks man that's all good to know.
I am quite hyped for it, I hope I can get my hands on it.
Jungle was the worst of the game, easy once you know how though.
But yeah, atmosphere, soundtrack, even the art was so original.
Grandia
Koudelka
Legend of Dragoon
Medal of Honor Underground
Medievil
Mevievil 2
MGS1
Shin Megami Tensei II
Suikoden
Tales
War Games - Defcon 1
I kinda thought Esmeralda was cute, too..
God-tier OST, friends.
It was actually randomly listening to a welll-done MIDI remix of a song that made me give this game a shot. The song in question?
So much hype.
Also, I liked Lumina for some reason. That city always gave me a Tim Burtonesque vibe.
Secret of Mana is the game before it. Well, sort of.
Seiken Densetsu games had weird localizations, but for all things accounted, it was.
They are just as good, play very similarily, but are different in mostly difficulty and world.
SoM is quite hard and more similar to a normal RPG, and you have the same 3 party members for most of the game. The world is still fun and neat to explore, but isn't nearly as open or varied.
LoM on the other hand is rather easy to clear out. However, you have like 999999 skills, party members, pets, magic, golems and a plethora of random areas to explore because fuck it you are the representation of the love for life here to save the world from apathy and despair.
No, really. You are.
Vanguard bandits had a bs combat system I'm not sure how the hit chance works bit I swear it determines wether or not an attack will land before an attack is chosen
>Lumina
Well of course it's the best city.
>I guess I became a dull adult
Definitely. I'm borderline 30, and while they're not quite AS nerve-wrecking as back at the age of ~10, the atmosphere definitely can be spooky as hell.
I'd say it's more of an immersion thing. I've seen some 20+ yo adults get scared shitless by the first 10 minutes alone when playing for the first time, so it's not just the "old game = not spooky" thing either.
Lumina is comfy as fuck.
Also, how can a game that old can look this good? And those animations.
Seconding Wild 9. Great little platformer.
I agree wholeheartedly, but watching this animation just gave the PTSD of missing to talk with her once after a quest by mistake.
THE.
SUFFERING.
>Any non english speaking anons here? I want to replay and play the games I haven't in years mainly because I couldn't speak english back then and I haven't understand what the plot is about. Do you know tfw?
I finished Chrono Cross, Breath of Fire IV and FF VII-IX having no fucking idea what they were talking about.
I still loved it. And then, years later, I could experience those great games again, this time reading the dialogues. Felt great.
>some random disney games (hercules, tarzan, bugs bunny)
>implying Disney own Bugs Bunny
YOU MONSTER.
I always looked forward to reading his little diary entries. Some of his thoughts were adorable as fuck.
In my defense, it was one of the Jumi quests that go right after another, and it required me walking all the way back from the middle of the Jumi city to talk and then fetch Elazul again, and continue.
Simply didn't ntoice they would not count.
;-;
Be sure to try Poy Poy 2 out if you can find it anywhere. Arguably the best party game on PS1. Also look out for a game called Incredible Crisis.
