Pretty good, but not as good as Dragonfall.

Magic was fun for once, attempts to improve hacking fell on its face.

I might have to replay that. I had to abandon it on the final boss mission as it was impossible for me to complete (no items or health left).

I was really disappointed after loving dragonfall. I wish i could "romance" gobbet like you could glory.

Extremely bad dialog and story, much worse than the previous games, short boring missions, long ass writing and just plain bullshit that no one cares about, just filler text EVERYWHERE. Also the first game of the serious that was horribly buggy for me, quests bugged, game kept crashing after a certain point when i was trying to load a game, just plain ass. It's hard to believe it was made by the same people that made dragonfall. I don't know if i will bother with another game from this studio.

What do I think about Hong Kong? Just wasn't as fun or memorable as Dragonfall. The game improves after you get Racter and Gaichu but the ending was pretty weak. It didn't feel nearly as epic as DF where the final boss is fought in a room with a huge ass dragon.

Dragonfall was so fucking good, I waited on pins and needles for Hong Kong, and honestly, besides the music, it was a dissapointment.

It wasn't bad or anything, but Dragonfall was lightning in a bottle, Harebrained was doomed to an inferior fallow up from the start.

I found that the setting was underused. Really it had no particular need to be set in Hong Kong.

Corporate has a use 2 times, academic, 2 times and security 4 times. The rest just a single instance.

Every Shadowrun game I end up playing the same character, a chromed out Decker. I want to try new things, like a Shaman or a Mage or something. The whole magic side of the game that I never end up getting to touch. But the same problem exists in Hong Kong as existed in Dragonfall.

The worst companions in both games are the Deckers. No one wants to bring Blitz and Is0bel along, but you have to because every single mission requires a Decker.

Well, the combat was pretty simplistic and shit too. Somehow they've even managed to make it easier than Dragonfall. The only remotely challenging fight is that one where you're double-crossed by the Johnson and choose to fight both him and his enemy at once, stuck right in the middle. I haven't lost, but at least it took more than just going through the standard brainless routine.
I still like the games though. The runs are mostly well designed since shit happens constantly and dialogues/skill checks come up often. They're not just boring trash mob slogs in a long corridor.

Eventually our reality might get strong enough that WE invade THEM.

It seemed like they were compensating for Dragonfall where it was entirely useless, and yet funnily enough HK is the game where it would make the most sense to not have it.

Well, I don't know if it changed in the enhanced edition but I used it a lot more than that, especially in Tsang's corp mission.

Shaman fucking sucks. Enjoy one boring weapon that does no damage, and never enough spirits. The only thing it's good for is creating your own cover.

As interesting a reflection of Glory's character type as she was, she simply wasn't enjoyable to interact with at all. Not worth taking on runs in lieu of just being a Decker yourself, even her grenade launcher isn't really good enough to save her; the best part about her was her unique mission (like Blitz), and she was the worst part about that mission.

Loved it, personally. 2050's-60's HK was interesting and the local variations on magic and mythology were cool as fuck.

Shadowrunner is mostly "persuation" to get better rewards, like academic/socialite, you don't actually use it for info outside like 1 or maybe 2 instances

I think we can all agree that this nigga was the most useless shit in the series.

I feel you, and I agree with you about the characters, but all the same in both games it's pretty easy to throw a few points in Decking and turn yourself into a makeshift Decker, considering how much Karma high attribute upgrades cost. Especially with the new deck in HK, but there the main obstacle to upgrades is money rather than Karma. Still, the only run that really fucked me up as a non-dedicated Decker was Tranquility, simply because of the amount of fucking Black IC they throw at you if you want to fully explore the system.

I liked it, even if a lot of it was just background info and subtext. Chi being an actual, observable phenomenon, Dragon Lines, the different culture of the Triads interacting with each other and the corp governance of the island, the fusion of traditional attitudes like Face with the modern shadowrunners' world, the Yama Kings were terrific, spooky antagonists, and when you realise your dad was a brilliant magic-techno engineer who built one of the most incredible apparatus in history

Finished Hong Kong a few weeks ago. I found HK shares too many story beats with Dragonfall.
Both games start with a fucked up mission; you go earn money on shadowruns until your fixer can find out why you got fucked over; you inevitably go searching for and find a man who has all the answers; those answers lead to the big bad; kill/negotiate/side with big bad.
Also, they both share the same mechanic of talking to people in your hub world to help unlock "special" dialogue choices in the last encounter.

It's almost as if she doesn't deserve any.
