>one of the greatest games of all time that any gamer should play through completion at least once in their life
I'm sure we can all agree right?

nah, 2 spooky 4 me
Didn't you get the memo, gamers don't play this crap.
Now Candy Crush or Pokemon go are more fitting.
RE4 is fantastic, I hope Capcom keep doing RE spin offs and they play similar to this.
Man I get to be one of the 1st comments on this troll thread I hope I get dubs
Well RE4 is required play for anyone interested in shooters.
It's a finely crafted game and is one of the best games of the last twenty years. Pretty much nobody improved on it.
You still should play REmake too.
I got to the purple midget and dropped the game like it was on fire. That shit was gay as fuck. Just as campy and lame as the other RE titles.
No, I'm not trolling.
Cold Fear is better.
it's the best game of it's gen, so yeah
Controls were fine you shitter.
This and Symphony of the Night are games I can't picture anyone not enjoying.
There are other games I want everyone to try but would understand if people didn't like, like Legacy of Kain or Ninja Gaiden.
I wouldn't understand someone just not liking RE4 or SotN.
>the controls for Wii RE4 were bad
cool story mr parkinsons
Yeah play REmake so you can see what the series should be and what 4 did to it.
then play 5 and 6 to realise it was a bad direction to go in.
Zone of the Enders the Second Runner
Apparently the guy who deleted his post didn't enjoy RE4.
I couldn't be bothered to finish this. Was too difficult and not comfy enough
Don't worry you didn't miss much.
The last half is pretty crap and everyone who hails this as a perfect game seem to forget it.
The first third is without a doubt the best, but the castle and Island both have strong areas in them.
Granted I'm not one to say it's a perfect game but I would say it's worth playing through at least until Krauser, I don't recall any good areas after that.
No, fuck you. This is the "Halo ruined FPS" argument and it's retarded as fuck.
Just because a developer tries to ape its own creation and doesn't understand what made that iteration fun doesn't mean the game itself did any harm. Capcom ruined RE, not RE4.
RE4 was a good game and a decent balance between survival horror, camp horror and action gameplay. Capcom somehow figured that the game's success was in the move to more action oriented gameplay and went overboard with it.
Similarly, Halo was a good console FPS. Just because every other FPS that followed for more than a decade had a two weapon system and recharging health isn't Halo's fault, it's the fault of Devs who tried to replicate its success by replicating its systems.
The Castle is great. The Island is meh but overall a pretty short area and should still be enjoyable if you've enjoyed the areas prior.
Similar to what Gears did to TPS.
Blame the devs who don't have a creative bone in their body and copy whatever sells.
Exactly. Gears is still an alright game but unfortunately devs thought "put chest high walls everywhere" was the best way to make another game just as successful.
That's poor man's version of RE 4.
It literally is. I know because I bought it when I didn't have enough money to get RE 4.
>Capcom ruined RE, not RE4.
Literally every RE4 apologist, it's everyone elses fault! RE5 killed the series, Capcom dun it, T-the fans!
I'm not saying RE4 isn't a good game, it is.
I'm not saying RE4 "killed the 3rd person shooter genre" or the "survival horror" genre or whatever the fuck it is you think i'm saying.
RE4 killed the series, plain and simple.
It changed the series too much. It did well, it was good, but again is CHANGED the series to something else 5 and 6 are follow ups of that change.
Like I said; the game is good and it did well but trying to say it didn't kill the series is just retarded. Stop defending it just because you like it so much. It DID kill the series.
I don't know what comparison you're going for with Halo but here's one.
Halo wars? that game that completely changed into something else? Imagine if that was such hot shit that everyone dropped everything and flocked to that and bungie shit themselves and carried on making that instead of FPS
That's what happened to RE because of 4.
I never finished it because it was too fucking scary
I could never get past the first enemy
Is there a list of most replayable games of all time? This deserves to be near the top of that list.
>Imagine that everyone dropped everything and flocked to that
There you go, user. That's the problem. RE4's changes were GOOD. They IMPROVED on the existing formula. Progressing with those changes would have been fine; the problem is that in the next game they added co-op which fucked up both any horror feel as well as the inventory system.
Later games kept this change so you never felt isolated. The games geared more and more towards action and were consistently less well reviewed as a result, but Capcom couldn't figure that shit out.
Then we have REVII, which is following in the footsteps of an entirely different series -- not even a full game from it, just the PT teaser -- because they know people found that game scary.
This is on the devs, not the game.
would have gone with the "Michael J. Fox" angle myself, but to each their own.
Ubisoft pretty much flat out said it's a "poor man's RE4", that was the point.
It was them testing a new model. They wanted to see if selling mid-budget games at half the usual price would still be profitable due to a higher sales volume. They envisioned creating a stable "B-grade" game market. It didn't work.
Except if RE5 and 6 had been of 4's quality the series would probably be alive and well.
I don't know of one but I'll take this as an invitation to post some of mine.
Dark Souls
RE4
DMC (1,3 or 4 depending on my mood)
MGS2 and 3
May be more but they come to mind.
Oh crap forgot Super Metroid, probably tops my list.
