We have this thread everyday
Excellent game, horrible "sequel".
I hope SE doesn't touch the series and do any more damage than they did with the DS port's extra content.
Lucca is better in the sack than Marle.
ayla >>>>>> flea >>> lucca > marle
Great game, great ost, fun story, it's got a cool frog, Magus did nothing wrong.
...
What would a prehistoric woman know about kama sutra?
Still one of the best JRPGs ever made. Pic related are muh Chrono Triggers.
Often, but not that often. Discussions of this game (and Xenogears) are really best things about about this board.
The DS port is literally the best version you dink. Also Chrono Cross is also one of the best JRPGs ever made, though it is very different than Chrono Trigger.
>Flea
You called?
...
Flea is my favorite transsexual in vidya.
He was talking about Chrono Cross you fag.
>transsexual
Though not totally correct, I'm not here to argue that and will just agree with you.
Best Final Fantasy.
Why is Schala so perfect?
Because she only gets a few lines, letting us fill in the blanks, and the most developed character in the game thinks highly of her.
...
Your life must be really boring if you really couldn't resist making this thread
But said "I hope SE doesn't touch the series and do any more damage than they did with the DS port's extra content." so he was talking about the DS port. Though I don't think it ruined anything, it just tried to bridge the gap between Trigger and Cross, which no one really wanted in the first place.
...
I think Cross gets too much credit because people shat on it for so many years. The soundtrack is undeniably good, but the story is a clusterfuck and the cast is spread too thin (and done worse than suikoden, which has a cast double the size)
It's okay, but I really don't want to give it more praise than that
He could mean extra content like the bonus dungeons. Those looked pretty shitty and slapped together.
...
Chrono Trigger is my all-time favorite game. I love it.
Yes they were user. Are you retarded or is English just not your first language?
>internet arguments won today: 2 (the ass hat above is the other, but they might not know it yet)
any have the Chrono Cross Godhand edit? I used to but i fuckin lost it somehow...
I kinda took the English line Flea says to heart when questioned about their outward appearance. "Power is beautiful and I have lots of power." that over time Flea's magic formed their appearance to what they felt was 'beautiful' and matched their magic powers.
>Those looked pretty shitty and slapped together.
More importantly, they were obviously designed by a man who didn't understand what made CT so great in the first place.
Unlike most JRPGs, CT had no grinding or random encounters, which kept the battles fresh. The new dungeons were standard, kill 50 mooks to progress, fare.
Flea sure has some huge tiddies.
Fanart tends to do that to characters.
>The DS port is literally the best version you dink.
Tell me again why, after the devs behind CC literally said that cross was not a direct sequel to trigger, SE would decide it was a good idea to force a square peg through a round hole and haphazardly try to directly link the two games together as a continuous linear story line?
Tell me again how SE thinks it's ok to make Magus lose his memory and become Guile AFTER the fact that the writers decided to axe the idea of Guile being Magus in Cross?
Tell me again how a dumb pokemon minigame, a literal fetch quest, and portals with boring minibosses is a good addition to Chrono fucking Trigger?
Explain to me how the touch screen contributed anything new and innovative to the game play.
Could it be? Square Enix doesn't actually give a shit about the series? That the DS port as a hail mary by Nintendo and SE to get older players to buy the hardware? Whoa.
Just like with FF6, the SNES version is still the definitive version of the game. However, unlike FF6, not a single patch or modification is needed for it to be perfect because it already is. There is no debating this.
Is there a huge feminine penis as well?
a poor man's I am Setsuna
are they supposed to look like dragonball?

Did you miss ?
About the only SFW image I have.
That's a nice one.
...
She only needs a few lines because they knew how to use their soundtrack to do the work for them
youtube.com
if this doesn't tell you everything about schala the two times it plays, you aren't playing CT right
Favorite JRPG after Dragon Quest VIII and Suikoden II.
>you will never be this mad
The DS version's bonus content was shitty, and as a whole it may have been an unnecessary port, but it is certainly the definitive version of the main game. muh SNES nostalgia doesn't change that.
Whoa there big boy. Let's not get our panties in a bunch.
The DS is the best version because it's the PS1 version with the added anime scenes, minus the load time, plus a bonus side quest. All of this on a portable system where the game looks great.
Don't like the story elements in the optional bonus side quest? Then don't play the optional bonus side quest. Simple stuff. It's literally just a little something new for fans.
>Explain to me how the touch screen contributed anything new and innovative to the game play.
Having the menus on the touch screen decluttered the action screen giving an unadulterated view of the game the likes of which we have never had before.
>Could it be? Square Enix doesn't actually give a shit about the series? That the DS port as a hail mary by Nintendo and SE to get older players to buy the hardware?
If you think companies have any goal other than making money then you are quite naive. Also, for many gamers, the DS version is the most accessible and easiest to play. Who the heck didn't have a DS when this game came out? At the time SNES version was ridiculous expensive and hard to find (still is) and the PS1 version had shit load times just to open the menu. As someone who has owned each release of the game, the DS stands ahead as the clear winner.
>but it is certainly the definitive version of the main game
Support your claim.
...
Looks like shit on a big screen, onply playable on tablets and phones.
>with the added anime scenes
unnecessary
>minus the load time
irrelevant since the SNES didn't have this
>plus a bonus side quest.
which did nothing but shit on the original game
>Having the menus on the touch screen decluttered the action screen giving an unadulterated view of the game the likes of which we have never had before.
Or, you could press Y and not have to deal with tactile gimmicks and an extra screen.
>Also, for many gamers, the DS version is the most accessible and easiest to play.
You can literally emulate the SNES version on your computer right now.
It told me plenty.
>You can literally emulate the SNES version on your computer right now.
Same goes for the DS version; and you get the added benefits of more content, a better translation, and less screen clutter.
>he can't emulate DS games
>better translation
Absolutely disgusting.
I always wondered what happened to Ted Woolsey after his Snes translating stint, and it looks like he's the general manager of a Microsoft subsidiary company now
Lucky break for a guy who got started in the industry with the qualification "can translate a ton of shit really fast"
I stand by this post.
GRAND
LEON
Oh, get over it. The Woolsey translation was rushed and unpolished - mostly thanks to Square being dicks to the guy.
>muh Ye Olde Englishe
>muh Spincut
Is it me or is it one of the most linear rpgs out there that still pretends to be open ?
Also Radiant Historia did literally everything better.
Now that it exists only thing Chrono trigger has for it is muh nostalgia
>need to use an anti-piracy gameshark code
>shitty audio emulation
>retransaltion ruins the original charm of the game
>two screens, one of which you have to let go of your pad and click on with your mouse
>more content is just the same garbage content that makes the port bad in the first place
One of the best games ever made.
absolute epic then, absolute epic now.
>>and i have the original box with the wallpaper
this game honestly isnt even good. outdated graphics (sprites), ripped off dragon balls art style, uninteresting plot. the only people who like this game are nostalgiafags
There's more to translation than just translating the words.
Woolsey did better than anyone could have given the size limitations of the SNES. It's a true testament of skill to make a translation not only fit into the game but on top of that be charming and memorable.
Compared to him, the direct translation is dry and shallow. The magic is replaced with engaging lines of text that you can't help but skip over.
You seem biased.
It's a good game.
>ripped off dragon balls art style
It's illustrated by the same person, you dumb fuck.
My PS1 games are still mostly boxed up.
Not even trying anymore.
The PS1 opening is so good.
Left to Right:
Arale

Goku

>anime cut scenes unnecessary
If you didn't think these were the coolest fucking shit when they came out then maybe JRPGs aren't for you.
>irrelevant since the SNES didn't have this
You are pretending that the SNES version isn't ridiculously expensive and hard to find.
>which did nothing but shit on the original game
>A bloo bloo bloo, I a re-release of a game got optional bonus content. Someone please make it go away!
>Or, you could press Y and not have to deal with tactile gimmicks and an extra screen.
Now you're just being retarded user.
>You can literally emulate the SNES version on your computer right now.
...and you're point being? Being able to have Chrono Trigger in my pocket and play it wherever I want is fucking cool! You claim to love the game so much, yet shit on the company for releasing an accessible version, and you advocate pirating it.
If you told 12 year old me that I would one day have Chrono Trigger on a portable console with anime cut scenes and a second screen for the menus it would have been like a dream come true. You're clearly either a troll, you're autistic, or you just hate fun. I suspect it's a combination of the latter two.
No more (you)s for you user.
Early translations are so hit and miss, but both the hits and misses are memorable, so they get stuck with you
I still laugh at Antipode: Attack with Antipode in Chrono Trigger and l i t t l e m o n e y in FFT
>dat Flea edit
My favorite game ever. That said, I hope the series stays dead. Modern Square Enix would fuck it up so badly.
...
Radiant Historia's time traveling and world development are completely different in concept and execution from Chrono Trigger. One doesn't outdo the other. CT is about going to pivotal eras in the game's world to drastically change their outcomes while RH is about changing specific moments in a short timeline. With that being said, I think Radiant Historia's time traveling mechanics have one major weakness that CT's don't: a fuckton of dead-ends.
How many more you got user?
Mmmmmaybe...
tfw u wanted to talk about chrono trigger but faggots came and faggoted up the thread
Thanks.
Discussion was dying because one faggot wanted to argue that the DS version wasn't the best version of the game.
Have you played them all? Which do you prefer?
>If you didn't think these were the coolest fucking shit when they came out then maybe JRPGs aren't for you.
fuck off weebshit. They didn't add anything to the flavor of the game except give antiCTfags ammo for saying "muh DBZ ripoff"
>You are pretending that the SNES version isn't ridiculously expensive and hard to find.
What does this have to do with load times? You can emulate it for free.
>Now you're just being retarded user.
Not really. It's one button vs an entire screen and stylus, plus the hardware itself if you don't have one.
>Being able to have Chrono Trigger in my pocket and play it wherever I want is fucking cool!
Smart phones exist, and they have SNES emulators on them. Also,
>playing vidya in public
literally retarded
it's good but FFVI is better not by much
I would love to see the old square come back.
OP here. I've played them all, and DS version is best. Been debating lately if CT is my favorite JRPG or not.
Nice battle system but everything else is vanilla as fuck. FFVII was better
>Favorite JRPG
There's a couple of series I hadn't touched, but it's a solid 3 way tie between Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.
This is me but with Lufia 2 instead of DQ8
3D games are like 3D women.
They don't matter.
Lufia 2, Lunar 2, Grandia 2 (lots of 2s), and Skies of Arcadia are really fucking close seconds.
>tfw this "faggot" has engaged and fostered more more Chrono Trigger discussion than its OP
Also, you, by definition, are a humongous faggot. So kindly suck Flea's feminine dick, bitch boi.
Except it's not a direct translation - hell, a lot of the character name changes and such that Woolsey made were brought over into the DS script. Sure, some of the Tech and monster names are different, but it's nothing particularly jarring.
For me it's between Chrono Trigger, Mother 3, and Persona 3 & 4
Lufia 2 made it in for me because it's the only JRPG that actually does puzzles right.
Does Chrono Trigger hold up today? Like I can play it and not become annoyed how slow it is etc.
I played Earthbound last year and I enjoyed that. Never played it but I'm interested in it.
sorry i didn't mean to upset you angry little queer.
if you enjoy feminine dicks more more power to you
possibly the most fine tuned RPG ever made, and the epitome of a JRPG from of its era
its a shame that games didn't learn from it
I never understood the appeal of Persona 3. Tartarus is such a repetitive slog and the party AI is garbage.
Not gonna argue with you over that. I bought and played through Lufia: The Legend Returns on my 3DS recently and it rekindled my love for the franchise.
absolutely. I think the way they basically scripted every encounter makes it stand out a lot for a snes rpg. There's not much of a transition between battle and roaming.
If you can enjoy EarthBound's pace CT will feel like warp speed.
That's a good game. Some dislike the randomized dungeons. But I didn't mind.
youtube.com
John Romero has great tastes.
So who is the "faggot" in question?
It surprisingly does. It's well paced and not bogged down by outdated design decisions.
No grind, no ceaselessly long and convoluted cutscenes, no bullshit.
I played the it for the first time few years back because I wanted to judge it for myself, and it's actually as good as everyone says it is.
