I think straight up platformers are one of the worst genres to be honest. They take a good genre like metroidvania and then strip out 2/3rds of the game. Mario is half the game castlevania is.

Nah. Platformers are half of a game. Platforming is the thing you do while you do combat. It's not interesting enough to be the primary mechanic unless you're talking about something like supermeatboy but even then I'd rather play metroid.
