Persona has bad combat, bad dungeons, bad story,etc. People play it because IT'S LIKE THEY ARE REALLY JAPANESE! That's it. Even Personafags know the gameplay is shit, just watch them say they like Persona 3 but hate The Answer, when the only difference is Answer is purely gameplay and doesn't have any of the school/dating shit.
It's a nice gateway into VN's.

It's stylish as fuck, and the combat is getting an overhaul, on top of that the dungeons are not randomly generated bullshit, and the majority of the game isn't just reused assets. so you know. Yeah it's been a fuckin pain how long the game has taken to come out, but hopefully the game is polished. The only thing I can hope for at this point is that the game isn't mostly grinding..... so yeah.

Who the frick plays Persona for the story anyway? I just like the structure of the games and the character interaction. Dungeons also look alright this time around too so there's that.

Ignoring that part of the bait, Robin Hood was still a highway robber who threatened people with violence and explicitly stole from them. Hell, even in lighter adaptations he still often enjoys humiliating them as revenge for their actions.
That's a far cry from a group who doesn't even steal anything, they only make bad people feel good feelings. I think most people actually expected Robin Hood, but as of right now that doesn't look like what we're getting.
Given the general theme of Persona clearly being that of a secret world, it's amazing you thought you were getting a fucking heist game.

It's clear they're methods are questionable and they will have to change throughout the game though, they're literally manipulating people's emotions. Besides, I don't see detective-kun joining the party if they were to keep up that act the whole game.

Many people thought we were getting a game like that thought. If you were actually in the threads way back, you would remember people being excited over the concept of being thieves
It was pretty obvious they were going to soften the tone up from the initial impressions, but I figured they would do it by presenting them as hedonistic or just slightly morally ambiguous. More irreverent and playful than actually harmful, like a lot of anime thieves (the most popular iterations of Lupin, for example.) I didn't think they'd go so far as to actually remove the stealing or just make them spread positive feelings.

You see, Persona used to be generally accepted on Sup Forums since it was relatively niche. Now that it's somewhat more popular it's the cool new thing to hate. Notice how mainline SMT doesn't get ragged on so much? It's because nobody knows what the fuck it is outside of its very small fanbase.
