ITT: Stuff in games that fucked you up as a child.
Scary or otherwise emotionally scarring.
The first time I got a scary prank call in the Sims.
I actually thought someone was gonna come and kill my dude.

The goddamn music in Lavender Town terrified me when I was 6. I had to turn the sound off to play it.
And the fucking Wallmaster in the Forest Temple.
Any level in Crash were I was being chased scared the ever living shit out of me for some reason.
Well, I tried.
>Called wallmaster
>has nothing to do with walls
Seriously, Nintendo?
I guess cause he can send you back to a different room? That's... sorta wall-ish? Yeah it's not a good name.
...
I googled the filename and apparently that's a Star Wars thing. What game is that from?
The fucking skelly that chases you scared the living shit out of me. I never got past that part. Ever.
I can't stand the feeling of being chased, especially unarmed and unable to fight back.
Imperfect Cell gave me an absorption/tentacle fetish when he consumed the androids
>youtube.com
>Hello Piccolo, thank you for bringing 17 & 18 here
>It pleases me greatly, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
We can all agree Imperfect Cell was hands down the best antagonist, Super Buu was good too imo but Cell is just terrifying
these scared the hell out of me as a kid
Dark Forces
Apparently when they ported DBZ to the US they tamed down those absorption scenes. I've never seen the more hardcore versions.
Never played that game but I used to pretend that show didn't scare me in elementary school.
Cell was good because it gave the arc a horror vibe which is always fun.
The endless stairs in Mario scared the ever living fuck out of me, the music certainly didn't help.
The sensation of being chased is just awful, mainly because it forces you to take your eyes off of something that is actively hostile towards you.
The worst thing is when you can hear the sound of them aggressively sprinting after you.
"Mario 64 Bowser Laugh"
I remember being maybe 6 playing that and being like "Man, these stairs are going on forever. But I'll get to the top, I'm determined."
I was not a bright child. I'm really not a bright adult.
Stage 1 Dark Troopers were pretty freaky as well. Though they didn't scare me as a child because I only had the demo version of the game back then. I just got the dianogas.
>that image
Not something I should have looked at at 2am.
The 3D claw machine timed level in the Toy Story genesis game
Jurassic Park genesis game (the one where you could play as a velociraptor) The dr.grant levels always scared tf out of me.
The Ruins in Phantasy Star Online
I used to get scared in Pokemon Blue late at night too with Glitch City
What a pussy
Not scary, but horribly sad.
Hey You, Pikachu!
Where you had to literally say "Goodbye" like 5 times into the mic to make Pikachu, who I loved, go back into the wild. And he just keeps giving you this look.
I never beat the level with the ghosts in Rugrats Search for Reptar on PS1. I also avoided the Toy Store level at all costs.
I even get scared at fake haunted houses where someone chases you.
I haven't gone into a fake haunted house since I was a kid, they legitimately spook me
I accept this classification.
Me too user,me too.
Autism
Wait that is in my PS1 disc tray as we speak. I don't remember any ghosts. What level was that?
Inexplicably, that goddamn goose level scared me good.
I can't remember where the mission is at but you start up in Tommy's room at night and you have to get to the kitchen. You have a flashlight with limited battery and there's ghosts you have to shine the light on.
Same here. Got caught off guard when it played during the elite four.
Ohhhhh shit, I blocked that out of my memory.
3 Words.
Water levers.
This. And also that fucking zombies that jump on your head and are screaming like a nightmare.
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy fucked me up as a kid for reasons I'm trying to grasp.
Images like this or some of the shocking musical cues from cutscenes would be burned into my head to the point I would be scared to go near a window at night not knowing if the image would just pop-up as if it were TV screen.
I went through a phase where I had to have the radio playing if I needed to take a shower and times where if I had to use the secondary bathroom (which was annexed to the garage but close to a large window) I'd pee in the storm drain, hoping no would would notice.
8-bit (and to some extent 16-bit) trauma was no joke.
I had a similar fear of windows. I was worried that if I pulled the blinds up, there would just be someone looking in at me. Probably because of jump scares from games and movies? Who knows.
...
getting rid of chao in sa2b made me so depressed and i cried a lot when i was a kid
where can I buy/download/play the sims 1? I never got to play the last expansion.
there's this urband legend that lavender town drove many chinks to insanity and suicide
It was that weird screeching shit that both terrified me, and amazed me. I can almost recreate it with my own vocal cords.
Rudy the Clown
>mfw "LEVEL ONE. IT'S THE HOME STRETCH BABY!"
>You're mostly invincible
>Face Rudy
>"Surprise nigga! It's Game Over Time!"
I gotta admit, that shit's a rude awakening.
I might be the only one in this, but in Red Dead Revolver, when you had to take on Pig Josh. That fat fuck terrified the shit out of me. I got the feeling he was a rapist.
The endless staircase theme in SM64 triggered me when I was younger
Also that GET OUT
Maybe it was you doing the screeching all along, user, you just don't know it yet.
Crash scared the fuck out of me. Vaguely humanoid, low-poly enemies were the bane of my childhood. Same with Spyro.
>Sim death music
>shit my pants
>ghost appearance music
>shit my pants again
WON'T GET ME 3 FUCKING TIMES
The game over screen in the original XCOM was creepy as fuck.
This
This part from the end of MGS2. Not even as a child. I literally just played it a few months ago for the first time and it fucked me up.
youtube.com
Most definately alone on this but 2d props that always face the camera in 3d games, like lampposts or bushes.
I used to have fits as a child whenever I saw it.
Also, this part was freaky as well. youtube.com
God fuck that music it always made me feel bad and end up keeping shitty Chao
I can somewhat feel you, I used to be terrified over situations when the camera would clip into the player model and you would see the face from inside. This admitttedly happened very rarely (I can only remember it from THPS 3 from the top of my head) but it used to scare the shit out of me. Nowadays, I find that stuff hilarious af
Apart from that, I remember being really terrified over sharks in GTA:Vice City and San Andreas. I don't think they do anything (I never checked t b h) but still, fuck sharks
Sharks existed in San Andreas but they didn't attack. Vice City you just fucking drown.
Play Scarface World is Yours if you really want to shit yourself. Even has the Jaws theme when they grab your ass.
In VC, I always feared that they would attack the boat or something but I guess they're just decoration then
It's really wierd, seeing how you can buy the movie studios in Vice City and one of the studios would have a shark prop lying around and I never was scared of that, eventhough it uses the exact same model I think like the ones that spawn in the sea.
Oh well, now that that's resolved, I guess I can finally go look for the oysters in San Andreas
>I can finally go look for the oysters in San Andreas
Happy hunting and I don't remember sharks in the sea in VC but I usually avoided water anyway.
omg this. The burglar sounds were beyond scary
what are you, 12?
I was about to post this
Sharks in Scarface were really scary
WTF man that is intense. I got freaked out playing Urbz and Bustin Out on gba because Giuseppe would break into your house when you were too poor to afford the monitor.
Recently played it and bought robo monkey butler from him for pretty cheap.
The swim time is short as fuck to boot.
That fucking polar bear in the Crash Bandicoot 2
This fucked me up.
The drowning music in Sonic also fucked my shit up. It gets so intense then death ensues.
I used to play Sonic 2 at my mums friends house all the time and I'd just play Emerald Hill Zone over and over and stop when I got to Chemical Plant because there was so much water and I was terrified of fucking it up and drowning. I had to legitimately leave the room or straight up turn the console off.
Getting crushed also made me kind of shudder but that drowning music still fucks me up a little.
What are you, unable to read?
He said URBAN LEGEND, like in "not actually true, a campfire story being passed around".
Glitching outside levels always fucked me up really bad. There's just something about being in a void in video games that's fucking terrifying. The worst examples I can think of are pretty similar, once in Star Fox Adventures when I died at the exact time I beat a boss. The screen came to a white void and I looked up and I could see the level.
A similar thing happened in Tony Hawk's once where I glitched through a ramp and fell into the void and could see the level above me.
That one Mirror's Edge video fucks me up, too
>robber randomly turns up in middle of night, trips the alarm
Fuck that guy
>being this retarded
I always made sure one of my sims stayed awake during the night so that the burglar wouldnt come. But sometimes he'd miss work and the music would still play when you got called that you're fired
dude i swear this game was satanic
You can pretty much find the complete edition on torrent.
In the OG Zelda, they came from the wall and brought you to the beginning of the dungeon. I guess the name just stuck.
>be kid playing sims at 3am
>get a fucking prank call along those lines
>START > SHUT DOWN > OKAY.
>SimCity 4
>check the music tracklist on options
>there's one that's not enabled by default
>mfw listening to it for the first time
this, how'd it go again? youtube link anywhere
>648▶
>File: dianoga.jpg (14 KB, 284x177)
I am 24 and still cannot play this level due to my fear in childhood.
>there's this urband legend that lavender town drove many chinks to insanity and suicide
Not a big achievement really.
>Go to haunted houses in Japan
>Cramped and you have to open doors to next rooms
It's like playing silent hill in real life sometimes, these guys know what they are doing.
This game scared the shit out of me as a kid.
Still afraid of the dark..
I HAVE NO STONE, AND FUCK YOU ANYWAY
>alone in the dark
I still haven't seen a single screenshot of this game where it actually is dark.
hi
Fuck Donglin forest in Tombi 2
youtube.com
That sounds like it belongs in a classic fallout game
I finally see i'm not the only one.
Thanks for existing user.
I can't think of any levels in particular but I couldn't handle glitches like characters falling through the map or expanding. It's make me freak out and turn it off because i thought reality was dissolving.
Black & white, third land where Lethys tortures your creature.
It fucked me up good for some reason
Isn't that the game that calls your name on the desktop?
Never heard it on the desktop, but it did ingame. Fuck Peter Molyneux.
pic related, or the puking animated sprite, gave me nightmares
Not much did since I was exposed to silent hill pretty early and after that nothing outside of straight horror games freaked me out, but one of the things that did was this fucking place, used to spook me good
or when it screams "DEATH" at you whenever somebody dies of unnatural causes
That Rollercoaster Tycoon? If I could have any game have a comeback it would be that.
Even Thrillville kicked ass.
That art kicks ass wish the game actually had a sprawling city but love it regardless.
Sonic CD music, hell maybe the game in general, fuck it's surprisingly a creepy game
