Order of Ecclesia 2 Electric Boogaloo OR Mighty Number 2 into the toilet?

To be honest everyone was expecting a delay, no way SoTN2 could have come out by this coming May. If there's ANOTHER delay after this we'll be in MN9 territory, but until then I remain cautiously optimistic.

>delayed a whole fucking year

wtf

There was no fucking way this was coming out on March 2017, it was way too early in development and they pretty much didn't thought that the stretch goal rewards were going to do that well.

I'm not surprised at all. I always thought a 2017 release was way too optimistic given all the additional stuff they promised to include.

Once the Kickstarter blew past all its stretch goals, added new goals and passed those this was pretty much inevitable. They are developing something beyond their initial best case scenario so more time was going to be needed.

This just in: Games development is slow as shit these days

It was never going to make March 2017

it's not that bad

>these days
Game development has always been slow as shit.

The only time game development was fast was the early arcade era when they'd slap together a shitty machine throw it into an arcade in a weekend see if it made and money. The iteration phases were like a week and game development were basically a weekend with two guy slapping together a cabinet.

Ever since the NES/SNES era game have taken literal years to develop.

Yeah, most people do not realise this though. WoW and GTAV both were in development for 4-5 years despite having large number of people working on them. People seem to think that work has started just about when it's announced, when in reality the game have been in development for a few years already.

That's factually incorrect though.
Games taking more than a year was unusual even up to the 90's. Daggerfall was famously considered vapourware because what was probably the largest game ever at the time had spent /two entire years/ in development.
WoW is an exception, really. But if you genuinely think GTAV doesn't fall into modern games then you're retarded.

>Sup Forums actually donates to kickstarter

>WoW is an exception, really. But if you genuinely think GTAV doesn't fall into modern games then you're retarded.
I never said GTAV wasn't a modern game and plenty of games back then took years, such as Deus Ex that were in development for 3 years and Conker's bad Fur-day which was in development for 4 years, Super Mario World took three years. I could go on forever.

could be worse!

>That's factually incorrect though.
No it's not

Super Metroid took 2 and a half years to develop, Seisen no Keifu took 3 years, Mega Man X was 2 years, Donkey Kong Country was 18-months, OoT and ALTTP were both 3 years.

At..at least they're still doing it ;_;

It's gonna be shit, isn't it?

>Games taking more than a year was unusual even up to the 90's
This is the most retarted shit I've read in a while. Prime example of anectodal bullshit.

There were more than a few red flags in the demo but not nearly as many as I was expecting. Dare I say it, it managed to change my expectations from complete disaster to "maybe it'll be an okay game"

What red flags? Jesus, everything has a to be a TORtanic with you people.

nigga what
up until the mid-80s or so, most games were made by one-man teams over the course of either a few weeks or months. As games got bigger, so did the dev times naturally.

While he was naive and dumb in making the contract, I am still mad as fuck about the team that stole the money to fund their own game.

The worst part is that said game is receiving good reviews when it should be boycotted and shat upon regardless of quality. Generally I don't push for that kind of shit but you don't fucking deserve recognition and money if you funded your game on stolen money that was meant to be used on a game YOU were hired to do.

It begins.

>expecting games journalists to behave ethically

So? Delays happen all the time in games development, you usually just don't hear about it because they keep their schedule under wraps until they've got a good idea of when they will release. Even then there are delays.

With Kickstarter you see the process right from the very beginning so you see the delays that come with it. After all the stretch goals they hit, it would have been a miracle if they hit their initially projected date.

It's not even a good anecdote because he's using a game missing it's release date by two years as evidence that game development longer than one year was abnormal.

The only reason that game was listed as vaporware was because Bethesda promised it by the end of '94 but as the game was developed and the scope expanded and more features were added the game's completion got pushed further out. The original estimate was based on the fact that they were going to reuse much of the assets from arena but as the game dropped the raytracing engine in favor of an actual 3D engine new assets needed to be generated and the game's development took longer. But 2 years wasn't that abnormal in the 90s.

And Indivisible was bashed for having a 2018 release

I will fucking die of laughter if this turns out to be Mighty Blunder 2 and Indivisible turns out to be actually good

People are crazy if they honestly believed March 2017 was a realistic date.

They picked that date because they needed a date on the Kickstarter, and that date was just the 20th anniversary of SotN.

I *am* surprised it's missing 2017 in full, however.

can you expand on this? I never heard about it

Inafune all over again.

Hysteric.

Considering Shantae was delayed TWO FUCKING YEARS because they had to remake their game, this somehow doesn't surprise me. At least the ride there will finally be over, and the game will give what it promises.

MN9 is its own thing, Bloodstained isn't as likely to share the same fate. If it does, well, another reason Konami was right

>mfw I donated 270$ to this

A GAME WAS DELAYED!!!!!!!! TORTANIC!!!!!!!!!!! TORTANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an interesting point, because the kickstarter process makes you a "shareholder". If anything, all crowd funding has done is show regular people how it feels to be a shareholder in one of these companies, and why those guys always seem so impatient and pissed off with their investments.

Except replace "I got a shitty game" with "I lost enough money to buy an expensive car at minimum". Some hilarious individuals decide they want it in both holes though.

Nah. Igarashi has experience in making games. Inafune is just an art guy who wrongfully thought he could make games.

>faggots fell for the scamstarter meme
>inbefore the delay was to add online features

>$270 to literally indie shit
What the fuck is wrong with you?

Basically, "Hivestuck" which is a Homestuck game that was funded on kickstarter, was going to be made by the game studio “the odd gentlemen” which Hussie hired. To quote a tumblr post that one of Hussie's friends made:

>“Over 8 months of development, TOG produced exactly one “playable build”. It is a single room, involving one character, no animation, and almost no other key features. Virtually nothing works properly. It was submitted in February of 2014, and no improvements or additional versions were submitted beyond that date.”

Further information posted elsewhere.

>"at some point TOG apparently just completely gave up working on hiveswap, because they were tapped to develop king’s quest (you can see them admit this in public here at about 1 minute into this video). however, instead of dropping out of developing the game, they decided to just… not tell WP, and proceeded to spend the money they were given on KQ’s development instead.

>eventually, after months of platitudes and refusals to communicate (at one point andrew even moved across the country to be able to visit TOG’s offices and get the ball rolling on development, but they wouldn’t even let him come in), WP realized that they’d have to drop TOG, so they terminated the contract in late 2014.

>at that stage, TOG said they had 390,000 dollars left of the money WP gave them that they hadn’t spent on “development” or taxes. but, get this – in the 7 months it took them to agree on a settlement for returning the money, they spent 170,000 of it on king’s quest. seriously. like, they didn’t even try to hide it – they straight up spent it after they’d already officially stopped working on the game, and were just like, haha, whoops? pay you back later i guess."

I am not even someone that backed it or give a shit about Hiveswap but even I get mad when reading about bullshittery like this. Still, this isn't as bad as the Ant Simulator shit that happened.

>Kickstarter for a homestuck game
>Raises 2 million bucks
>Author of homestuck contracts a studio to do the development
>They use the money to make their own game and ignore the homestuck game completely
>Just ignore the author trying to keep updated, after months try to placate him with some garbage.
>Project is basically dead since the money is gone.
>Obvious case of straight up fraud but the author settles out of court for a tiny fraction of the original amount to try and salvage the game
>No progress after that
>Game is declared dead

what the fuck

why doesn't he sue the shit out of the company

with those 100k he had left I would hire a premium deluxe lawyer to make them pay double

>even I get mad when reading about bullshittery like this

tell me whose fault you think it is

>100k does anything in the realm of IP law

gets a lawyer to walk in the door for 2 days

Hussie is not a smart man, they probably snuck some bullshit into the contract he signed to legally steal his shit, so the settlement was the best he could hope for. Remember that we are talking about this man.

I think the worst shit is that they never updated their site. It still shows the 3D models and environments that won't be in the final game since they switched to the classical 2D point-and-click design like a year ago already. It's blatant false advertising.

He should have just stuck to making TNG edits.

Probably the guys who literally stole 2 million bucks.

>>$270 to literally indie shit
>indie meme
No fucktard the problem is that there are no basis to believe that this won't be another mighty n. 9 shit

Hussie was naive but that doesn't may the game studio any less scummy and the majority of fault lies on the game studio for doing it to begin with.

Presumably it's due to loopholes in the contract. Same thing happened with Ant Simulator, a game which a programmer was very excited and invested in until his two friends, whom he had known for 11 fucking years, that he hired backstabbed him by spending most of the cash on booze and hookers. Not even joking, it's pretty much what happened.

Said friends were graduates from some school about economy and were supposed to handle the finances and shit.

They would lose that money and more trying to get it back in court. It's not worth it.

Instead they have been pushing merchandise purchases to get the funds back.

>indie
>publisher is funding 90% of the game

He should have at least fucking finished Homestuck before cashing in on it with a game. In some other universe, Homestuck got a decent ending a few years back and Hiveswap is getting ready to release, all because Alternate Universe Hussie wasn't a dumbfuck that overburdened himself with a game and a pack of scam artists when he could barely keep up with the comic alone.

As someone who backed, I'm ok with this.

>Hussie was naive

in the real world the fault lies on the person who divulges like 2 million dollars without a contract or any idea how to do anything.

he had no idea how to proceed, fucked himself, fucked the contributors, then gave you a one-sided story that i assure you relieves him of much of the deserved blame.

"we gave these african migrants money and they just wasted it!"

once again who is at fault-- the migrants, or you?

of course you would be
you got money on it, you're invested

>Comparing immigrants to a supposedly "Professional" game studio

Are you retarded? You're trying to lay ALL the blame on someone that contracted a studio. He has some fault in being naive when contracting them but the majority of fault still is on the hired studio. This isn't Jamal buying liquor and drugs for his welfare check, this is the construction company you hired fucking you over by not completing the house at all and instead using said money to build another house.

>comparing people to people

oh, look, someone's missing the point completely.

>He has some fault in being naive when contracting them but the majority of fault still is on the hired studio.

? err no because the hired studio never intended to make the game. thus the fault is on the person who hired them.

you really don't get it. here's a test: you go through life hoping people act how they're "supposed" to and I go through life guessing people act the way they tend to. we'll see who has a better time.

>this whole post
don't you have school in a few hours

>Neighbour asks me to look after his dog while he goes on vacation
>I agree
>Don't actually take care of the dog and just let it starve to death
>Neighbour comes back and is furious
>"Lol whatever man, should have known better than to trust people. Really this is all your fault"
Not even going into how you have no idea what the contract actually looked like, you just assume the money was forked over and they did a pinky swear.

>post your yfw you never gave money to any Kickstarter, ever

>oh, look, someone's missing the point completely.
No, I'm pointing out how retarded your comparison is since there's a difference between a random group of people and a game studio,.

>? err no because the hired studio never intended to make the game. thus the fault is on the person who hired them.
This isn't about "Hoping people act like they're supposed to", this is about a team that were legally hired and signed a contract to make a game.

What more than likely happened was that they used a loophole, hence why he's not suing the fuck out of them.

People are way too irresponsible with money.

...

From what I recall the reason Hussie didn't take them to court was because he wanted to avoid a protracted court battle and instead just salvage what was left of the money so he could get the game developed and released in a timely manner (which never happened so whatever). I suspect he's also mildly autistic and just didn't want the stress of it.

If he did, would he have won that court battle?

Why is this a bad thing?

Who knows. I guess it would depend on if they could weasel their way out of the contract's terms.

"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is forever bad." -- Keiji Inafune

>MN9 was delayed multiple times
>Still ended up shit

Also consider that during the court battle the devs probably would have spent whatever was left of the money and considering they're just some poor-ass indie studio, it's not like they would really have anything left to take if they lost. They might look at jail time if the charges were serious enough but that wouldn't help get the homestuck game developed.

Is shenmue 3 coming out before this?

>Expected a Delay

Not for OVER 15 MONTHS

Well at least the Wii U and Vita ports are still coming, unlike Hyper Light Drifter who took the Wii U owner's money and ran

Better they tell us this now than Mighty Number 9 getting delayed for about the same amount of time without being up front about it.

I hope they don't drop the Wii U port for an NX port. I like the Wii U gamepad.

At this point you think most people would be used to it. Almost all kickstarted games have been delayed one way or another. Once its starts being vague and have multiple delays into MN9 territory, then we can shit post about it till the end of time.

If anything they'll drop the port period with no replacement.

I've heard literally nothing about Shenmue 3 since the kickstarter ended. Bloodstained has been getting regular updates but absolute silence on Shenmue. I'm not a backer so maybe they are communicating, but none of that information seems to have gone public.

>Wii U owner's money and ran

Just like Shantae is doing to the PS3 and Xbox 360 owners

Kickstarter is such a joke.

The majority of all projects go over schedule and over budget, you just hear about the kickstarter ones more often because their development process is public.

Also kickstarters won't usually be rushed out the door unfinished to meet a deadline since there isn't the same corporate pressure. So a kickstarter is more likely to delay where a "normal" game would just enforce ridiculous crunch time for a couple months then push it out whether it's ready or not.

all 3 of them

It might be a sign of Iga evolving into the second coming of Inafune, aka "Con Man".

We'll have to wait and see what news pops up, whether they repeat the issues that plagued Mighty No. 9 or if this is a genuine attempt on his end to make a much more polished product.

>September 7th
youtube.com/watch?v=mFvzI0xGgTg
What the fuck? Seriously? Both the Wii U and Vita have tons of game maker games on them. What fucking bullshit. He is full of shit.
Well fuck that guy then.

The difference is Nintendo advertised the Drifter as a Nindie darling, as shown by Runbow.

To have a Nindie not actually be a nindie is a little...hypocritical, if you catch my drift? I think you do.

Runbow isn't made by Nintendo

Yet they have no problem advertising it

And?

Your check is in the mail, Bill.

well meme'd

>2018

No way the WiiU version is still coming.

They provided a decent demo so I don't really understand all the bitching.

Yeah Mighty No. 9 also delayed itself forever to provide crap, but at least unless they start all over again this already looks promising enough.

i love not being stupid

We'll see about that.

If you weren't fucktards, you'd know that he is offering refunds or another version of the game.

But sure, make the baseless claim that he "Ran away with the money".

Also, you're legit retarded if you back a game for the stretchgoals and not the game itself. Learn about game development and read up on things before backing game in general so you understand the risks and the fact that shit more than likely will get cut out for a multitude of reasons, including "The idea seems fun but is in reality game breaking or boring as fuck".

Are you personally offended somehow?

Difference between being angry at stupidity and being offended, user.

Are you personally offended that I point out stupid, false claims?

I'd say I am just slightly bewildered.

It does look like he struck a personal nerve, though. Calm down, man, it's just a game.

Did they mention who else they're going to be adding? Right now Iga and Shutaro Iida are the only returning Castlevania devs that I know about.

lida is known as "Curry the Kid" and was a programmer at Konami. Worked on various handheld Castlevania games, directed Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, and programmed for MGSV.

>no mention of elysian shadows and falco girgis in a kickscammed thread
Come on guys
