What joy would someone ever get out of destroying and massacring someone else's hard work? I see nothing amusing about this thieving bastard. Not only is he shitting all over something he didn't make and had no right to be abusing but he's also a retarded eceleb faggot that wants to make MONEY off of it. Speed running has already long been declared illegal and I'm glad knowing that nintendo will soon take this clowns channel down. A game is made to be played by the developers rules not your own. Anyone who supports this rapist is the same kind of guy who supports chinese bootleggers stealing and making garbage like AM2R

why doesn't he upload on his main channel anymore?

Main channel is for updates to the A Button Challenge and occasionally other commentated stuff. Secondary channel is for discussion of general SM64 mechanics and speedrun strats.

I know this is bait, but I've only gained more respect for the devs after seeing the level of planning put into the game. I never realized how versatile Mario was until I watched pancake's vids.

I wonder who's behind this post.

WHY WON'T HE RELEASE ANOTHER VOICED VIDEO

fucking THIS

also /r/ the comic of Pannenkoek and Henry going golfing

More like lack of planning. Half of the crazy tech is only possible is due to programming oversights like Mario's backwards speed being unbounded.

Henry was right though.

(You) earned it

He was right and he was wrong. It's true that you can't "half press" a button, but that's not what 0.5x A presses refers to.

That's some crazy fucking autism.

Can you imagine what he could accomplish if he was allowed to actually use the A button?

I heard he made a comment saying that he only managed to make the rolling rocks video because he was going through a rough patch of IRL stuff, and so he focused all his energy on making the video to keep him distracted. Didn't see the comment for myself.

He doesn't need to. His power level as it stands is pretty amazing in itself.

I'd wish that he would do a live commentary on GDQ's TAS Block.

>Pannenkeok Describes how to do a 0.5 A press
>It's actually a 0.75 A press
Henry was right

He'd bring us all back into the Berenstein Universe.

I thought the TAS community banned him or something

What is this nonsense? There's no such thing as an 3/4 A press. You either press it, not press it, or define 0.5 as a state change from one to the other.

Wait what? I knew he pulled a joke with his submission, but this can't really be the reason.

No way they can't take a little bit of banter.

Quentin is an elitist retard, what else is new?

>a state change from one to the other.
That's not what a half press means.

I swear pretending to misunderstand this shit is a meme. It's made painfully clear in the video and has been explained over and over again but people still don't understand. I can't just chalk it up to stupidity anymore, people are getting it wrong on purpose to annoy me.

You trying to start a war ot sth?

Quentin is a retard but it is a 0.66 A press though.

If this guy was autistic in physics or quantum mechanics, he'd be the Einstein of our time, instead he chose the life of Mario, or was it Mario that chose him?

He had good intentions with calling it a half A press. He's really good at distilling CS concepts down to a "I've never written Hello World in my life" level, but everybody's hung up on the terminology now.

All that needs to be said is that pressing A and releasing A is one whole press. If you have A held for some reason before you enter a level, you can release it and you haven't made two presses, just one. If he needed to release A in that particular level in a vacuum, yes he'd need that additional press to do it, but in the context of minimal A-pressing the whole game, it may as well be a half since he used the button-down input for something else.

Yes, so it's basically just a label. Pressing A for any reason always counts as 1 press, regardless of which part you use or where the press originates. "half press" is just a convenient name to explain that the level requires 1 additional A press in some context, but 0 additional A presses in other contexts.

youtu.be/0NA_Nq7oZZU

Whoa

...

Exactly. More specifically that half of the entire process is performed inside the level and half outside of it (hold A before entering level, release after), but you basically got it.

Obviously, for an minimal A-press run, you can't ever have a running total of, say, 5.5 presses or something. If you finish the game holding down A, that initial press is still one press. It's just because it's ultimately released that he counts it as "half" until it's released. Releasing A does not count as a second press but does have a function regardless, which is why that's even relevant.

...

...

Tsh, I can do that

>yfw """Henry""" directed the cosmic ray to the cartridge flipping a bit causing that guy to teleport up to the top of Tick Tock Clock

You don't get it. The specific parts of the press are irrelevant. Saying that the pressing/holding/releasing each count as

Hello Cody.

I get that. That's why I said you can't have a non-integer running total. Please read my post next time.

So this... is the power... of a A press...

He don't use a non integer running total. In the video he says "on a single star basis you round that up to 3" "but in a full game run you round it down to 2"

.5 is just to give context to the A Presses for both cases.

mongoloid.

You say he counts it as half until it's released but that's not true. There is no action or event which counts as half a press even in the context of pan's explanation/interpretation. The "half press" is never something that actually happens or which is counted. It's only a label.

t. """""""Henry"""""""""

autism

Alright I thought he was simply very interested in math but this actually looks like autism material desu

You are also a retard, actually. You don't understand why it's called a half A press. Hint: It has nothing to do with how much of the complete process of pressing and releasing the button you perform.

so why doesn't this guy use his retarded knowledge of this game and unbridled autism to speedrun the game? surely he can use his """""skils"""""" to find all sorts of new glitches/short cuts

Why do you even want a voiced video?

The presentation of the non-voiced ones is just fine and the fact they take less time to make means there's more of them.

Obvious bait, but I feel like this is based on something real. Are there really people who are so much against not playing the game as intended?

No, it's because he's pressing on one half of the A button. It's "Half-A press", not "Half-a-press"

Instead of speedrunning, he aims to complete the entire game without pressing A.

At this moment I think it takes him one single A press to get 70 stars, and something like 23 to get all 120 stars.

>Varoufakis
Why did he get memed this much?

>its set to change with the music

He is actually studying math and programming.

as in never jumping? or does he do that bullshit where he presses A when going through a door and then when he lets off it later, mario jumps, and he calls that not an A press

I like his voice and the way he narrates.

As in no a presses. He's allowed to jump, so long as he doesn't press a to do it.

Any reason for pressing A counts. Not just never jumping since there are ways to "jump" without pressing A.

Realistically though he will probably never get a full 120 star run down to 0. But I don't think he minds, he probably just wants to find the absolute minimum required.

That's half an A press :^)

his voice is cozy and helps take away the pain of being conscious

"""""""""""""""""Henry"""""""""""""""""

It takes a ton of work and editing. At least, to make a good one.

This is actually really cool. I have a question: where exactly is the ground? I assume that when he says "ground" he means an exact point, one that remains constant through every level. So what is it?

how on earth is "red coins on the ship afloat" the highest star in the game?

the ground is the surface directly below the star (assuming the bottommost part of the center of the star's cylindrical hitbox)

so it's different in each scenario, not a global fixed point that each level shares.

basically, wherever mario could stand.

It is if you disregard the boat.

And you can make the star appear without the boat, so I'd say it's fair.

That's fair and I agree.

>does he do that bullshit where he presses A when going through a door and then when he lets off it later, mario jumps, and he calls that not an A press
That's literally what that half A press meme is.

A half A-press is the action of holding a previous A-press to gain the benefits of holding the A-button (for example, falling slowly while wearing a wing cap) without actually pressing it more than once.

Let's say a previous star required 1 A-press and the next didn't require an A-press but did require the benefits that holding A offers, he could use that 1 A-press but continue to hold it between levels. Of course if he needs to use A elsewhere, he would then have to let go and press it again. As such, the second part which only requires HOLDING A does not add to the A-press total for a full run.

There's a couple of interesting videos on misaligned floor triangles, actually.

read the description

>The star JRB Red Coins on the Ship Afloat has an oscillating height, and so I stuck it on at the end as a special case.

It's not the highest, I think he just pushed it off to the end because it's a special case (the only start with a moving ground below it)

where else would you put it? at it's minimum? it's maximum? best to just shunt special cases off to the end.

>where else would you put it?
At the average.

Whether a half press is a state change or a temporary compromise that can be rounded up or down depending on context, there is no 3/4 or 2/3.

Even that's a case of satisfying no-one and would still seem arbitrary.

It would satisfy me, fuckface.

Are you saying that it is x0.66 A Press because there are 3 different states to the button: Press, Hold, Release?

Pannen saide that there is no use for an A release, and therefore we only have the two different stats of A button action: press and hold.

Not necessarily true, "ground" in the context of SM64 is anything Mario is allowed to be over. So stuff like lava and the death barrier also count as "ground". Any coordinates with no ground is out-of-bounds.

Oh fuck off please, it's already been explained in the thread. A half press does not exist mechanically. Pressing is 1. Pressing and holding is 1. Pressing, holding and releasing is 1. Even if you never let go, it's still 1. Even if you press it outside a level and keep holding it into the level, it's still 1. It's not "0.5 until you let go". The 0.5 is a context note for runs and nothing more.

What are you basing this on? "Ground" is an arbitrary term in the context of the game. I didn't see any of the stars in the video over a death pit at least, so what's wrong with calling ground "something you can stand on"?

Then as someone inspects the corpse in the coffin they look down at his hand to see he's holding a N64 controller with his thumb pressed down on 'A', the thumb then releases off the button and he long jumps out of the coffin and does a back flip. Super Mario 64 helped him cheat death.

That's how pannenkoek uses the term in his videos.

So this is the power of the A-Press

>he builds up speed in a coffin for 12 hours and jumps to an alternate universe where he doesnt exist to spread his magic

An A press is composed of two parts: pressed and hold, each with a weighing of 0.5 of the total process.

youdubber.com/index.php?video=0NA_Nq7oZZU&video_start=47&audio=vAaLeJ53umE&audio_start=252

So riddle me this: I press the button on level 1, hold it through level 2, and release on level 3. Can you possibly consider level 2 to be a "0.5 a press" run?

...

>edited so that star spinning matches up from clip to clip

>Hitchens
You fuck off. Even if he were preaching Islam and advocating the sterilisation of all men, he would still be a great polemicist.

Yes of course. If we look solely at level 2, you had A held which is the 0.5 press.

Only if the holding function is actually used for something in level 2 such that it couldn't be done without holding the button. Otherwise it would be 0.

Except that it's never actually possible to have one part of an A press without the other. It's still 3 A presses in total but called 2.5 in the context of that particular level.

Also as a side note Pannenkoek actually eliminated the half press from Wing Mario Over the Rainbow so his example is now kind of inappropriate. You can get to the first cannon platform in 0.

>1:01 onwards

Memes aside, I would argue that an A press is in fact an A press, you can't say it's half, when he's holding the A button down it doesn't count as an full A press and so shouldn't count as such.

Ok, how about if you require the A button held for levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and release it on 6. By this logic we pressed once, held 4 times and released. Therefore we have 2.5 A presses total for this, despite pushing in and out once.
