I have to say, I hated Snow on my first playthrough of FFXIII. He was obnoxious, bullheaded, loud, brash, seemingly ignorant, and overall just too annoying to be likable.

On my second playthrough I didn't mind him as much though. I'm not really sure what changed, but I guess it was my perspective. Instead I mostly saw him as being energetic, vigilant, resourceful, caring, and willing to do whatever he can to help his friends, as well as make up for his mistakes.

It probably helped that I actually used him in the party on my second playthrough. I seriously loved his line, "The heroes ALWAYS win!" That line was just so pompous that it was great to listen to.

Actually in the episode zero of ffXIII Lightning points out that Snow is also an unemployed Chuuni.

In the Nip version it was delivered but it was cut from the Western release of the game along with Lightning's character arc ironically enough.

Yup, that's actually true to anything referring to Lightning and Hope's realtionship across the series. In FFXIII they cut out all the scenes of Lightning smiling at Hope, and they also altered her character so the fact that Lightning's emotional vulnerability was erased.

In LR, Lightning and Hope flirted quite a bit, which got cut. But because this was cut out, along with Lightning's character arc which they actually started cutting from the first game. But Hope really is in love with Lightning and Lightning at least in the Japanese version seems to return the sentiment. In fact it was revealed by the staff that the final scene in LR was Lightning searching for Hope.

This is why she's so reviled in the west while Japan loves her, along with the entirely different voice delivery. Playing LR with Japanese voices made it quite clear how rewritten the localised script was, where sidequests involving Lightning happily helping people, showing kindness, and being empathetic to their plights were rewritten to have her be snarky, sarcastic, and outright hostile. Squeenix's localisation staff are completely incompetent.
