Let that sink in for a moment. Although I loved Galaxy 2, 3D Land and World, we haven't had a Mario game that groundbreaking announced in 10 years.
Post yfw you first saw the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy back in E3 2006

until they decide to bring back full control and full jump momentum back to Mario, it's a dead franchise.
>it's a dead franchise
Okay, now you're just being really silly.
I actually prefer 3D World. It's longer, has multiplayer, and is true to traditional Mario platforming.
it is in the eyes of people who like to play games more seriously.
>Mario
>serious
64 and Sunshine are literally the only Mario games worth your time. And I loved Galaxy 2, but will NEVER choose to replay it.
>tfw another Mario 64 will never be made because repetitive linear casual Mario games will always sell more
this user is a girl. please mock her shit taste.
top-quality shitposting
Havent had a ground breaking mario since iwata took over or main mario at launch
Same. However, I'd also really love another Mario game that's a little more "open." Everyone here seems to think that Mario 64 was perfect, but It's far from it. However, I feel like with Nintendo's experience and technology since then, they could TOTALLY perfect the somewhat open world concept that made Super Mario 64 so good.
I thought the controls were absolutely fine in 3D World. Never understood the complaint for that. If you've played it you'd know that having full rotation and triple jumps would either get in the way of how the levels are set up OR make the characters way too overpowered. It's not that type of game.
thanks, m'lady
>calling people casuals when you nostalgiafag over the easiest game in the series
> millennial who never had a snes or nes
This is why we'll never have a good discussion on Mario games.
Why can't these threads be more like Kirby threads?
you don't understand why Mario 64 is so loved fuckwad.
it's not entirely because of "muh open weeeerld." it's because the movement is unrestricted.
I completely agree, with the wonders they're pulling in the Zelda series lately with BotW, now would be a great time to bring in another "epic" Mario title in the vein of SM64/SMG.
64 and Sunshine are also the least traditional Mario platformers in the entire Mario platforming series, so to say they're the only ones "worth your time" is akin to saying you don't like Mario platforming in general, and prefer collectathon-style platforming not that I'm knocking that, I also like that style of Mario as well
I've never been able to get into this because of waggling.
>that one shitposter touting the "muh mario 64 controls"
>he forgets how awful the N64 controller actually was to use
the side scrollers from SMB to SMW are great, but 64 and Sunshine are the only 3D ones worth anything.
but you said Sunshine and 64 were "the only Mario games worth your time"?
>that one user that bitches about the camera in Mario 64
>his favorite Mario game is Galaxy
>fuckwad
>"muh open weeerld"
Cool it with the shitposting, will you? I totally get that. Like I said, I'd like another Mario game just like that. I'm just saying, I liked 3D World more for this reason but I understand that not everyone has the same "Mario preference" as me. Too many mistake 3D World for being a bad game just because it's not an exact replica of 64. You may as well shit on SMB3 and World too. Those are both "casual" to a large extent, but a lot of people still prefer those over 64.
I loved that they found a balance between the good 2D Mario elements and the good 3D Mario elements. It's the perfect balance in my opinion. On top of that, if they made another 64-like Mario game, it would be very refreshing because we haven't had one like that in 20 years.
fine all Mario games are bad except 3D Land, happy?
I don't understand what you're trying to say.
The camera is Galaxy is 100x better than 64.
What the fuck was that all about? Grow up.
I want a Mario 64 sequel, fully 3D with tons of new moves like wall running(limited run up a wall if you have a curved corner leading into it like Mario World had) and wall rolling(lets you move diagonally downwards when falling against a wall) and the main new feature is duo exploration that lets you perform 2-player moves like "bowser throw" to let someone reach a platform or even swing into enemies or throw them into an enemy that's too high up to reach.
Bowser has a clone and does duo move attacks like shell-flipping where one Bowser flings the other one overhead to smash the ground with their shell and Hammer Bros do unique duo stuff when you encounter them.
"Super Mario Duo Bros."
I dunno what it should be called.
What else can Nintendo do to make Mario groundbreaking at this point? A water-centric game with completely new water platforming physics?
no
you're a literal pleb
mario sunshine >galaxy
but 3D Land is mediocre.
I just don't get why you'd like Sunshine, there's little platforming involved compared to all the other Mario instalments. It's also slowed-down due to the FLUDD mechanics, as well as having a lot of tedium with collecting coins, cleaning up paint that takes forever, and that fucking lavaboat segment. As far as I can tell, the main reason to like Sunshine is for the graphics and world design, as the actual platforming challenge, FLUDD controls, and level designs are noticeably lacking.
I can understand liking 64, though - that one's great.
was completely kidding about 3D Land, I threw that game in the garbage after beating W-triple crown or whatever.
sunshine is just a fun game to dick around in. if you like parkour, you might understand what I mean.
Because the movement is amazing and the environments give you ample room to play around with it. + Best aesthetics in the series
but I like platformers, not "playing around" some pretty world. Is this just a meme thing? As I really don't get it if so.
This stuff comes in ebbs and flows. The Wii was a really great time for Mario between Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Right now they're revolutionizing Zelda. For the Wii it was Mario. For GameCube it was Metroid. They'll get back to Mario eventually but right now he has to sell the Nintendo on iPhone concept.
It's mediocre compared to 3D World, yes. However, you have to remember that it was the first portable """3D""" Mario game (literally 3D and three dimensional). I don't know, that was pretty exciting to me.
Either way, we're due for another 3D Mario game. It's been 3 years since 3D World. They said that they're trying something new with the next Mario game for NX (whether that's good or bad is up to interpretation) so it won't be like 3D Land or World.
I don't think you understand that image
Woah. I loved that game when I was a kid. Might dig out my old Wii and play it sometime now that you reminded me about it. Thanks user
>Woah. I loved that game when I was a kid.
God dammit I'm fucking ancient
3D World was great.
Took me a while to get it.
I don't get it
Read OP's first sentence again.
Alright, that's enough, get out.
I love platformers too
>fpbp
>underated post
Normally I hate that shit but that's pretty clever.
kek
I never cared for mario galaxy because mario's moveset is smaller than in 64, and the levels are literally platforms in empty space, not to mention the shitty wagglan. Dropped the game immediately and never had any interest in playing it.
>>tfw another Mario 64 will never be made because you can't half press A
Never really paid attention to E3 back then.
I do vividly remember renting the game at Blockbuster when it was out. That game blew my mind. It looked amazing at the time, and the planet physics just amazed me. It's still my favorite game.
