Pretty sure Zelda BotW's release date was pushed to March. They wouldn't do that if they didn't have the intention to release the console on that exact date, if not before.

If you want incremental iterations of the same game then Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed are the franchises for you. They've been averaging 1 release per year for about a decade now.
Nintendo's current gen hardware each have 1 sidescrolling Mario game and 1 3D Mario game. Mario is their mascot and flagship franchise so he will be on every system. Also because of this, he is the face of their casual sports franchises and party games. That's why you see him a lot.
Ten Metroid games over 30 years is pretty solid output for a franchise that doesn't sell well in Japan. Six of those games are widely agreed upon to be fantastic. I happen to think one or two more are really great as well but I'll keep those opinions to myself.
Nintendo released a Zelda game less than 3 years ago that got a 91 on Metacritic. You should play it if you haven't.
I like when companies wait 3-5 years between games. Quality over quantity every time.

And honestly it is still a great system with great games coming out into 2017.
The Wii U isn't that powerful either but Mario Kart 8 and Breath of the Wild look outstanding, even at 720p.
I like high res and high frame rates too but they aren't everything when it comes to visuals.
The Wii U is a great system that I've played far more than my PS4 this gen. I think it is awesome and it has had a ton of memorable games during it's short run.
It didn't sell well though and Nintendo has telegraphed for the better part of the last year that they're focusing all their dev teams on NX.
So to answer your question, it is a bummer, but I knew it was coming.

Sure, I though SFZ was dope. Great score attack game that I put a lot of time into.
Controls are a bit rough in all range mode the first few times but it's really fun once you get used to it.
The Gyrowing stages are useless but they're only two I think.
