Which controller was worse?
Which controller was worse?
Xbox Duke Controller
Both of them are garbage.
Dreamcast has the worst grip
64 has the worse button placements
Both d-pad suck equally
DC, for a severe lack of buttons.
N64. The DC controller was basically the precursor to the Xbox and all other modern controllers. The N64 controller is a three handled monstrosity and the D-Pad and left handle were useless for pretty much every game.
Your life's control
>The N64 controller is a three handled monstrosity and the D-Pad and left handle were useless for pretty much every game.
How to spot someone who wasn't even born when the N64 was out.
>Dreamcast has the worst grip
You mean the analog stick or the controller itself?
Because the Dreamcast controller is a dream to hold
N64 is comfy. That middle dick part is basically just a nunchuk.
>cord comes from the bottom
>clips to the top if you prefer
why has no one else emulated this genius?
Wrong, and not an argument. Name 5 games where you make more than token use of the D-Pad and left handle.
By this comparison, the n64 controller was worse.
The dreamcast controller had better grip, better stick, and good buttons and triggers.
Also the dead was pretry good.
It's not a fair comparison this once both controllers are from different than generations.
The Dreamcast controller feels like a 5th gen controller though. It's way too lacking on inputs for the 6th gen. Fuck, it doesn't even have C and Z buttons for fitan games.
>Shitting on the Dreamcast controller.
But it was perfect for racing games. I should hook mine back up and play some Sega Rally 2 later.
the 10-15 wrestling games made by AKI
The only people who found the N64 controller bad were manlets with tiny hands.
>It's way too lacking on inputs for the 6th gen
The inputs were made for games at the time.
>fitan games
>controller
???
I loved that taunting actually made you vulnerable by making you use the d-pad
taunts were on the stick.
Dreamcast just because its handles were so fucking awkward
>The inputs were made for games at the time.
The N64, Dualshock and Sega's own 3D controller had more inputs.
N64 is god-aweful unless you have 3 hands, but nintendo has a lot of fanboys.
The Dreamcast controller handles pretty great despite locking like a bar of soap
Why would you need to use the D-pad for a 3D game, Sakamoto?
The N64 has a few 2D games.
I never did get this "N64 controller is bad" meme. The games on the N64 had their control scheme designed around the N64 pad. I literally never had any problem with it whatsoever.
Why would you need an analog stick for a 2D game?
nonsense, the duke is quality stuff if you have the hands for it
How can you possibly compare the N64 d-pad as equal to the DC d-pad? DC d-pad is a disgrace, if you want bad Nintendo d-pads you have to wait until Gamecube.
By that logic, the D-Pad and left handle shouldn't be on the controller in the first place. Therefore it is objectively a bad controller.
n64
only nostalgic children will disagree
the dreamcast. no, the gamecube. worst controller. Nintendo should just strictly stay with handhelds
But they are there, and only used if the game has digital control as its primary method of input. Thus, you can ignore the analog stick if you want to.
>people still shitting on the Dreamcast controller
I don't care how shitty the D-Pad is, it's functional enough without causing any problems.
Holding the controller is like holding the very strangely shaped breasts of your beloved. I've yet to find a controller that surpasses it.
Objectively, the Dreamcast controller. There were less inputs. Esp in the face of the newfangled 6th gen things like Dualshock 2 and the Gamecube controller makes the DC controller look obsolete, even by 1999 standards.
The DC had:
>1 D-pad, 1 analog stick
>4 face buttons (A,B,X,Y)
>2 analog shoulder triggers
>A start button
The N64 had:
>1 D-pad, 1 Analog stick
>6 face buttons (A,B,and the C buttons)
>3 shoulder triggers
>A start button
For comparison, the Saturn controller had:
>1 D-pad, +1 analog stick with 3D controller
>6 face buttons (A,B,C,X,Y,Z)
>2 shoulder buttons (they're analog with the 3D controller)
>Start button
Excitebike 64 lets you switch from stick+z to d-pad+L
I'm tired of the meme that the N64 controller is a monstrosity. The only flaws it actually has are the bumpers and the analog stick being to hard and easily damaged. I can't count the lack of a second stick in because that was only introduced near the end of the gen by the PS1. Most games make you hold the center and right handle. The few games that us the D-pad will have you ignore the center, turning it into a Saturn type controller which is excellent for the few fightans the console has.
Anyone who still views it like an abomination has a perspective issue and needs to visit the doctor.
It's just a dated controller. It's not awful, but even the Dualshock was a more elegant solution to the problem of having an analog stick on the same controller as a d-pad and buttons.
Hell I remember brilliant controler ideas like in turok, you moved with the C-buttons like it was a D-pad and aimed and turned with the stick
>he hasnt played melee or f-zero gx
game cube controller is king tier
It's comfortable but the dpad and cstick let it down.
N64 is straight up GARBAGE.
Which is fitting since N64 was a garbage console with just a handful of good games.
I get legitimately triggered every time my friends want to play smash 64 on that console. I love the game and playing it on wii VC with those controllers is great, but having to use that controller sucks all the fun out of it because the controller is useless.
N64 just for the quality of the parts used. Truly fucking low quality trash. I'm ok with both shell designs, I'm used to them.
But...The N64's shitty shoulder buttons, and the actual analog stick and the gears and parts in it are complete cheap fucking garbage made to break. Even for the time frame there's no excuse for the cheapness of the parts, especially considering the price of them at the time.
you forgot
>totally imbalanced
>shitty analog stick
>the fuck were those c-buttons
