Nope, I prefer unique Scfi Worlds compared to generic shit.

Why'd you link to an unavailable video OP?

I just want a turn based Final Fantasy game that isn't Bravely Default. I don't care about the setting, really.

no, if a FF has a good story/gameplay/longevity, imho it can be settled even in the most idiot place

At least post the original, OP

nah, I got Witcher and Souls games for medieval fantasy settings

I prefer medieval Final Fantasy.
FFIX and Crystal Chronicles were my favorites. Those were charming as fuck.

Yes. It's not because of the setting, though, it's because those games had an approach to gameplay that was tossed out starting with FFVI.

>Final Fantasy

>It's now Final Science Fiction

How did this happen?

Oh yes, don't we all miss those good old days when Final Fantasy was only about swords and magic and... wait, is that a battle mech? Could it be that Final Fantasy always had futuristic sci-fi elements ever since the very first game? Surely it is not so! And what's that you say, it's still also about swords and magic in the newest games? Why, if this were true it would mean the theme hasn't actually changed at all! But that's not what my rose tinted glasses are telling me...

Some of the old FF games pull a Wizardry/might & magic and I actually like those asspulls, so yes, I want a new medieval FF game

I miss Krile

>"Medieval"
>Airships and mecha
>Traveling to the moon

Give another chance to have fun with a blue mage in a 2d game with cute style and freaky monster desing

Yes. Final Fantasy died when it stopped being about red mages and stuff.

One enemy 99% of people will never even encounter is a lot different than FF8 that bases its whole world around it with cars, televisions, and space ships.

I really want to save the four cristal again, with viking, geomancers, pirates, tamers bards etc

How le fuck

Yes, i do. FF7 killed what the series was about and brought a bunch of newfags that damaged the fanbase. FF9 brought it back, the final game with the original director and it shows. FF10 shat the bed. FF12 was ok

Just play FF14.

In fairness to that guy, you encounter the mech in the futuristic space tower with robots that requires a flying craft to reach.

I will when it goes free to play

Not really. V was my first FF and it was forever before I could actually appreciate it. Never finished it though

Literally will never, ever happen.

FF11 is still not free to play, and it's closing down next year.

That's not what it's a "remix" of.

It's a floating castle. That you get to with an ancient magical airship. Full of elementals and animals and other standard RPG enemies.

Warmech is the odd thing out here.

Lalafells are for ________

>Embed
We're whalers on the moon, We carry a harpoon!

>They gave FFXI to Nexon

Sap status killed the last party member the same moment the sandworm died.

>FF7 brought newfags
you what? FF7 brought Final Fantasy to the western world you retard. that was the point. before that they were just failing at just that. basically 7 saved the series. inb4 fanboy. I prefer 6

But 6 was a huge hit here and was crazy popular. Nintendo Power wouldn't stop talking about it.

The west already had FF 1,4 and 6. Six was a huge hit, even back then. It was a matter of time the other games that didn't make it here would get translated. FF7 was the first JRPG for a whole generation, and it shows. It doesn't hold up, and even If I love it's gameplay (and music) everything else is not great. Including it's crappy translation.

except FF was more popular in the US than Japan, the only reason that they didn't bring 2/3 over is because the SNES was already out by the time 2 was translated, and 5 because Square was full of racists who thought it'd be too hard for all of the baka gaijin.

Krile dies near the end of heavensward

i miss when it was a video game and not a cinematic experience

all video games are an interactive cinematic experience thou?

>FF7 brought Final Fantasy to the western world you retard
Only if you didn't live in North America.

>except FF was more popular in the US than Japan
Not even fucking close. FFVI sold nearly 3 times as many copies in Japan than it did internationally.

He meant FF1, I think.

You have no idea what you're talking about. The existence of high technology does not make a setting science fiction. Final Fantasy is mythological fantasy.

Science fiction is about a society in the "present" that is far more technologically advanced than the society of the past.

Mythological fantasy is about societies from the PAST that were far more technologically advanced than the society of the present.

There's a big difference between the two.

Nah, I prefer newer Final Fantasy at this point honestly. The old games' style of battle system has been optimized by game series like SMTP which added some actual depth to boring turn based while the newer games encourage a fast thinking way of playing that the ATB system could only hope to encourage.

As for the setting, I think that the FF XV's "start with more realistic stuff, then progress as the game gets increasingly more fantastical" is far more original than "guy starts in farm" or "guy has no clue who s/he is" or "ET, JRPG edition", taking an approach similar to the anime TTGL in terms of build up.

That's not the case either, although it's a lot closer. 1.21m domestic compared to 780k internationally.

theres literally been more sci-fi or pseudo sci-fi final fantasy games than medieval style ones, fuck off

Final Fantasy V is not a great game.

Them's fightin' words.

(You)

Not the guy, but actually in the original it's actually in space and you can see the stars in the background. It's a breathtaking area compared to the rest. The remakes turning it into a floating castle did a great disservice to it.

>makes Alphinaud her bitch
I like her a lot more than ff5 Krile

this, the job system and multiple worlds are the only cool things in the game, the story is just a giant meme and the main characters name is literally butz

Is it? I don't remember. Pics? Sounds cool.

It's a Dragon Quest game.

I've only played FFI-V. Enjoyed all of them. What am I missing, Sup Forums?

Materia.

What's that?

Shit gameplay and sometimes entertaining stories.

VI is great. VII is great too, different from its predecessors. FF8 you can skip. FF9 was considered by the series director as the last true Final Fantasy,in both gameplay and spirit. If you enjoyed the first five, there's a likely chance you'll love nine. Just a word of advice, set the battles to fast. Even then, battles go really slowly. That's my major gripe with it.
Remember to enjoy yourself.

Thanks user, will do.

>the job system and multiple worlds are the only cool things in the game
You mean aside from some of the best boss fights in the series, the best sense of progression outside of the MMOs because there are many, many points in the game where relevant enemies can actually threaten you which is also because FFV has the best random encounter design in the series, the best equipment system, and reasonable balance between different styles of play?

Well to be precise I said it was breathtaking compared to the rest and mostly as a concept. (I think FFI is quite ugly. The brick road tiles aggravated my eyes.) You arrive there by by bringing a cube from robot, who fell from space like a meteor, to a computer room and turning them on, so you can teleport there. I think you got a chance to look out from a window up there too, but it's been years. You can look it up easily, I'd wager.
