TICK TOCK CLOCK

Fuck off.

Tall Tall Mountain

I love Dire Dire Dock's theme but the level itself was shit.

Hazy Maze Cave

I love Lethal Lava Land. Allow me to explain.

First of all, Everything is pretty compact. There isn't a lot of repetitive platforming when you're going for various stars. For example, in Bomb Bomb battlefield there are multiple stars which pretty much just boil down to doing the exact same thing (get to the top of the mountain). A lot of levels are like this, where you basically just do the same thing repeatedly for stars. In Lethal Lava Land, you can get to the star challenge zone pretty quickly.

Another good feature is the danger in screwing up a jump; pretty much every jump has lava under it, so you need to be careful, so the stakes are higher. The only other levels that compete int his regard are Tick Tock Clock and Rianbow Ride where falling pretty much means you restart from the beginning.

I also liked the general lava aesthetic

I'm going to skew the vote by posting a picture of one of the levels at the top of the thread.

The results show that Sup Forums has patrician taste, and bob-omb battlefield is both the first and best level in the game.

anyone saying otherwise should kill themselves asap

Boos Mansion > Hazy Maze Cave > Big Small Island > rest

thats all that matter

this

>3 votes for Dire Dire Docks
Are you guys for fucking real? The water levels are shit. The only good thing about them is the song.
>Rancher

Bob-Omb Battlefield is basic as fuck. Good for a starter level but by far not the best level.

>Star 1: Get to the top of the hill
>Star 2: Get to the top of the hill
>Star 3: Fire a canon up to the island
>Star 5: Fire a canon up to the island and then fire it again

shit is repetitive. Also there's no challenging aspect to Bomb-Omb Battlefield. Every star is way too easy.

>best level
>no challenge
>minimal platforming
>biggest obstacle is chained
>least amount of mission variety
Come on.

>Jolly Rancher Bay

>Jolly Rancher
I hope that was a shit attempt at a joke.

I voted for Lethal Lava Land.

The level just has tons of tiny "spots" that are fun to play around it. Plus it has the shell, you can ride it around the whole level and go up the ramps and stuff. Plus, inside of the volcano is sweet and has some cool jumps on its own.

Basically, it feels like the level where you can "play" the most. I would also argue it has the least repetitive stars in the game - even with the red coin star, they are all collected on that small sliding puzzle.

Difficult question.

When somebody mentions SM64 I immediately think of Bob-Omb Battlefield but I really like Tall Tall Mountains and its slide but the slide in Cool Cool Mountain is also neat.
Wet Dry World has a myserious vibe.
Dire Dire Docks has the best music though and is the only level where you can combine caps (I think).
Yui is best yuru yuri

Rainbow Ride is interesting, but getting around with the carpet is a chore.

Wet Dry World or Hazy Maze Cave objectively
Wet Dry World
>best entry gimmick
>best gameplay gimmick
>as MatthewMatosis pointed out it makes you choose between having full movement or full interaction with the environment
>best skybox DEEPEST LORE
>second best song
>not super duper linear
>clever enemy interaction, like having an enemy throw you upwards to get to a high ledge or lowering the water level so you can fight the water bugs
>cool underwater city
Hazy Maze Cave
>fully interior environment, unlike any other level
>interesting entrance with jumping downwards
>several cool gimmicks with controllable moving platforms, such as the work elevator and the plesiousaur
>cocoa puffs
>scuttlebug jamboree
>bomb-ass poison cave
>also has the second best song in the game
I guess Wet Dry has best gameplay, Hazy Maze has the best atmosphere. If only there was an undergound level where you have to flood caves to progress.
Lethal Lava Land is up there too.

I almost said Tick Tock Clock but then I saw Wet Dry World on the list and had to rethink my vote.

Wet Dry World is fucking amazing. TTC might have the best platforming but the atmosphere and exploration of WDW push it to the top for me.

>God Tier
Bob-omb Battlefield
Tick Tock Clock
>Top Tier
Whomp's Fortress
Cool, Cool Mountain
Lethal Lava Land
>High Tier
Hazy Maze Cave
Tall, Tall Mountain
Snowman's Land
>Mid Tier
Big Boo's Haunt
Tiny Huge Island
>Low Tier
Shifting Sand Land
Wet-Dry World
>Bottom Tier
Rainbow Ride
Jolly Roger's Bay
Dire Dire Docks

Prove me wrong.

I voted Tick tock clock, sorry pannenkoek

Hazy Maze Cave here. Actually screw that Lethal Lava Land. HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA

My vote is Hazy Maze Cave and it has nothing to do with the meme.

It's atmosphere is amazing, I like how deep and large the level is, and it also feels the most mysterious with the monster in the lake, the poison in the maze...Plus that metal mario cap course was the bomb and it was cool how it lead out back to the waterfall

Also....the ENTRACE to the level is so fucking cool. I could look at it all day.

>want to vote for Hazy Maze Cave
>everyone else doing it is most likely A PRESSES BUT FIRST fags

>God Tier
Tick Tock Clock
Tall Tall Mountain
Hazy Maze Cave
>Good Tier
Tiny Huge Island
Whomp's Fortress
Wet-Dry World
>Alright Tier
Lethal Lava Land
Bomb-Ombs Battlefield
Cool Cool Mountain
Snowmans Land
Shifting Sand Land
>Shit Tier
Rainbow Ride
Jolly Rogers Bay
Dire Dire Dock
Big Boo's Haunt

Can we all agree that Tiny Huge Island is the worst? Getting around that level is such a pain in the ass.

It's got a great level gimmick, basically the best water level in the game, good platforming sections and is the only level with a spooky ghost town.

MOMS GONNA FREAK

No, see
So far we had some actual discussion about the game

Git gud. It only becomes difficult if you're going for 100% coin completion.

either tick tock clock or lethal lava land. Fun and diverses stars that rewards exploration and plateforming.
most other levels are more about exploration than tight plateforming.

>all this love for Wet-Dry World
Am I the only one who found the level to be tedious as fuck? Especially the water raising gimmick.

Really liked Lethal lava land
The music is good, and so is the aesthetic, the stars are a challenge but don't involve a lot of repetition and you can go to one right away, an lava provides a sort of save if you fall since although it hurts you, you get a chance to still live.
This
Tick tock clock and Wet Dry work are the best

I like Shifting Sand Land. I just feel like there is a lot packed in that level.

Nah man. Just go in big everytime and shrink when you get to the general vicinity of a star. I think Cool, Cool Mountain is more of a pain with those sliding triangle slopes. Thats why I shoot to the star directly with the cannon now.

>Tick Tock Clock

I want henries to go and stay go

>He raises the water
>He doesn't play the whole stage at lowest water level

haha I get that epic meme reference

ban check

>Dire Dire Docks has 5 votes

This was actually a pretty tough choice

I wanted to say Whomp's fortress but a good chunk of the level can be bypassed too easily and it's pointless.

Wet Dry World has great atmosphere and this eerie vibe, but I don't think it really works as a Mario level

Tall Tall Mountain just has it all in my opinion. It's challenging, feels organic and has a great overall aesthetic.

The real question though is what's the best Super Mario Sunshine level?

Reminder that Bob-Omb Battlefield is an excellently designed opening level but if you picked it as the best you are a casual of the highest degree!

Why is it even known as the Dire Dire Dock's theme? It's first appearance is in Jolly Roger Bay.

What was the ports name? Porto D'Oro?

Pianta Village is the best Mario Sunshine level.

I dont get all the love for bob omb battlefied

it kind of sucks to be honest. a wide open level but feels like there's nothing really in it. it's also pretty ugly aesthetically and boring thematically - where's the battle?

It has good atmosphere but it really suffers from the beginning when you have to swim through the long tunnel. Also water levels in general tend to be worse because there are less options when swimming, its just swim and swim fast. The exception being Wet Dry World of course.
It really is just a matter of atmosphere vs gameplay.

>This vote spread
Pretty good opinions this time, Sup Forums

Bianco Hills.
Ricco Harbor has too much water, Gelato Beach is flat with nothing of interest, Sirena Beach mostly takes place in the cramped hotel, Noki Bay is a claustrophobic bunch of holes, and Pianta Village is just boring.
Some fag will chime in about how Sirena Beach has a "comfy" atmosphere or some shit, but that alone doesn't make a good world.

>You played the shit out of Super Mario 64 and never found out about this 1-up
youtube.com/watch?v=qgXY9Ns1UGs&feature=youtu.be&t=35

Tall tall mountain for mix of mix of vertical and horizontal platforming

That's a tough ass question

Ricco Harbor has the really fun vibe: the awesome music, that huge ass grate construction that you can go all the way up, riding on those sea creatures...

But then the hotel level was fucking cool too. Also, Noki bay is gorgeous and had a cool emphasis on platforming.

Is it even possible to get to the town with low water level without using exploits? (I know you can use framewalking to walk along that ramp)

Ricco Harbor?

I would argue that mumbo is miles better than bob-omb but considering that BK is mario 64 2.0 that's a bit unfair.

this is a trick question because the hubworld is the best level

The hub is better than the worlds.
Most of the worlds in Sunshine fucking sucked.

this is fake, right?

why are you comparing a shitty, mini game filled, game to mario 64?

Yup!

Yes. You can wallkick up to the cannon, you can jump to the cannon from the rotating platforms / the cylinder shaped floating thing or you could use the secret warp to get up to the cannon.

Well /yeah/ but if other games are on the table it's not exactly fair.

There's a warp that takes you to the cannon.

What the fuck

This is what I love about old Mario games, there's little hidden things like this that I still find til this day.

Hell last week I was playing SMW with my gf and I found out about those floating clouds that drop the happy faces. Somehow we both had missed them as kids.

I like F.l.u.d.d. but sunshine sucks. Star road is better.

Just checked. Its real.

Did you know about the forest fortress exit?
youtube.com/watch?v=PjIuNSC6V08

>Snowman's Land
>2 votes
>One of them is mine

>BK
>shitty

Cool, cool mountain is superior in every way.

What the fuck? I seriously never knew about that.

Kinda surprised nobody has said Pinna Park yet.

Sirena beach would've been better if they had made Mario work better in indoor sections. I actually really enjoyed Gelato beach for it's atmosphere as well though. The beach area with the juice bar and the amphitheater up top just made it seem like a cozy place that'd be fun to hang out.

I suck dicks. Its Snowman's Land. Not very cool cool of me.

The bottom tier is correct.
Move Wet-Dry World up to mid tier at least.

A part of me thinks Star Road is better than Mario 64....In a lot of ways it even feels more "Mario-ish". I'm just so glad it exists.

what the hell was so good about tick tock clock?

How do I play this game?

Obviously Pianta Village

And before you ask, yes the Bob-Omb can be reached by long jumping off on top of the cylinder near the rotating platform.

Challenge I guess... it also has a really good design.

as a kid I'd spend fucking hours skating around Lethal Lava Land on the turtle shell

time-stopping.It feels like THE level that is mostly about plateforming outside of bowser stages.

>mfw Melee and Mario 64 were unintentionally complex and will never be replicated by modern Nintendo

it will happens in due time.

the one where mario builds of speed for 12 hours

>mfw finding this for the first time
>starts punching all the walls in the game to see if there's more

How about we post simple additions that would fix your least favorite level
>Rainbow ride now has a cannon close the start

Bob-omb Battlefield back on top

Tick-Tock Cucks on suicide watch

Dire Die Docks had the comfiest music

I would have the rug move twice as fast. It's just too damn slow.

>Rainbow Ride
Carpets replaced by platforms

>Jolly Roger Bay & Dire Dire Docks
Underwater sections and mazes where coins are limited

>Big Boos Haunt
A goddamn larger mansion to explore.

NO WAY
I saw the start and I was like okay it's gonna fly out of the wall like a lot of 1-ups do, nope you actually punch a hole in it. Sweet

Man, I'm having a hard time picking just one.

>Whomps Fortress
>Lethal Lava Land
>Wet-Dry World
>Bowser in the Dark World

All favs. I think from a gameplay standpoint though, I have to Lethal Lava Land. Long jumping across sections of the level while dodging lava is SO satisfying.

I don't think Nintendo's ever made a game since Mario 64 that has had more solid and satsifying controls
Even for a weird three handed control thing, nothing can beat it

>Big Boo's Haunt
>11 votes

my niggas.

>best music and a prime example of a mario game having atmosphere
>back when they allowed kids to overcome fear and unsettling environments in order to truly persevere and feel a complete sense of reward by the end

Unlike now. Compare mario 64's boo level to mario galaxy's boos. Or mario sunshine. They're fucking silly, not unsettling.

It also had interesting puzzles and nice interaction with things like the piano and kicking the books to make the bookcase shift. The shit down below with the merry go round always unsettled me in a weird way, and the skybox is the best one.

It's not the best in terms of level design but it's my favorite. Even the entrance is rad.

>Rainbow ride almost last

Come on bitches, that level was cool

>Rainbow Ride
you can alter the carpets speed and there is more areas to explore
>snowmans land
freezeezy peak already exist so i'm good.
youtube.com/watch?v=bKv9WeS8BOs

All I got is, a bigger entrance for the igloo in Snowman's Land.

So many casuals that didn't get pass the first world.
Tall Tall Mountain Dew is objectivelly the best level in the game.
