Why are visual novels so expensive?
$50 for a picture book, I don't get it
Why are visual novels so expensive?
$50 for a picture book, I don't get it
Niche product who targets an audience willing to pay that much because their shit never gets localized ever
Scarcity drives the price up
This pretty much. People are willing to pay for it. Who wouldn't want to make free money like that?
>fifty dollars for CLANNAD
>game has been translated for years and people have been downloading it for years because there wasn't another option
Wew what in the fuck is this then? Next you'll tell me I need to pay thirty dollars for YMK without any nudes.
it's pretty much for huge fans of it who want to have it for their collection
The big fans are willing to pay for it
Source- I'm buying Rance VI when it comes out even though I pirated it years ago because I want to own it for collection purposes
ugh is there a name for this style? Fuge huge bug eyes? Is it just a late 90s/early 2000s thing? It so unappealing.
I'd pay $50 to hang out with Sunohara for a day T B H.
Key
I'm no artist, and I know I shouldn't critize a legit artist, but something about that anatomy and those faces is... off.
I'd pay for a properly translated Rance VII.
I'd also just pay for anything that plays like Rance VII. A fucking hentai game has better and more entertaining gameplay than most other games I've played
don't laugh
did you look into eiyuu senki?
Sengoku Rance was pretty much the introduction everybody had to the series. Since it wasn't numbered most people didn't even know there were others until /jp/ came along and was like "uh.....this series has been around for years." Then people started learning moon runes and now we can all be smug fucks about it.
who the fuck spends money on a VN?
theres thousands of torrents and other ways to get a VN
its like spending money on a movie or a rvideo game
the only time you should spend money on anything is if you want to support the creator and not go through shit like steam
try eiyuu senki, big bang age or kichikuou rance (warning, dated but is basically the prototype of Rance VII)
>oh hey look steins;gate is on steam!
>$30
it's like they don't want me to buy it
To convince the producers to localize VNs that don't have translations. Too bad they're fucking retarded and their best idea is to release the opposite of just that.
Holy shit that art, even I could draw better.
They don't.
They want Steamfags who cannot conceive the idea that games might come from other sources to buy it. Anyone halfway serious about VNs knows where to buy/download them for cheaper.
>everyone wants Muramasa because it will never be fan translated
>JAST fucks around with shittier VNs and takes 6 years to localize anything
Like others have said, Eiyuu Senki is worth checking out.
it really is unappealing, I can't help but think I'm looking at someone with Major Retardation when I look at something with those eyes.
Go tell Sup Forums, oh wait they already know.
CLANNAD probably has the worst art ever. I wouldn't spend a cent to look at that fucking shit no matter what the story is about. Watch the goddamn anime if you want to.....oh right it looks just as bad.
>Steamfags who cannot conceive the idea that games might come from other sources
I can't imagine this demographic has much overlap with the VN player demographic.
Is the translation done well in this official release?
There's also the Let's Play people who will be pressured into buying it by their retarded fans who want to see them make hilarious reaction faces to whatever Japanese wackiness lies in store.
Not to mention Steam weebs and ironic buyers.
It's literally the fan translation iirc + higher res and slightly nicer menu/settings.
Worth 30$ at MOST.
I have no idea. Even J-list probably wouldn't stoop to this level of bumfuckery.
I bought a bamboo pillow and a pocket pussy off of there, plz no bully.
>jlist
they charge $100 for old import vns nigga
>eiyuu senki
This seems interesting
Well what in your wisdom would be a better place to get products from Japan? It came discreetly packaged as balls. Even the shipping label didn't say where it was from.
AmiAmi depending on the product can be better
I'm waiting until the adult release comes out. It's JAST and they are using the base all-ages translation. But again it's JAST so it might take years.
Bookmarked, thanks.
yeah jlist and jast wouldn't even release the game. those fuckers announced sumaga like 8 years ago and it still isn't out.
>anime faces
>anatomy
real book are fucking expensive too
Because some of the high budget VNs cost twice as much in Japan.
Less than $20 on PSN and $22 at Rightstuf.com, physical DVD.
Why the fuck is the Clannad anime so highly regarded? its so fucking over the top with how """"""emotional""""" it is its like a parody of other melodramas. Like an anime version of OMG SO MANY FEELS posts on tumblr by fuckhead tween girls.
It made some people cry over his wife dying, and then his kid dying in childhood.
Tragedy would be a trope in Japanese media if they even knew what a trope was. EVERYBODY DIES, the end.
True, but real books don't require electricity. eBooks do, but those also tend to be cheaper than physical copies.
Because most weebs have autism that prevents them from seeing subtle emotions without the aid of overexaggerated animu faces.
>tfw just paid $114 for the hard cover collectors edition of Spice and Wolf
Because they know you retarded weebs will pay for localized, DIGITAL visual novels. This game has been free with a translation for like 10 years now, yet in the last 24 months some fucking company took the free translation, reworded it, and released it as a $50 package after having these dumbfucks fund the whole thing on Kikestarter. Don't ever buy localized VNs.
I paid full price for it on my PS3.
Although; I love it enough to justify the price.
Clannad is full of awful melodrama, but After Story was done pretty well and is generally what people refer to when they talk about 'Clannad feels'
Personally I dislike the Key nakige formula where supernatural shit suddenly causes tragedy and the power of love fixes everything
>oh right it looks just as bad.
Actually the anime is fine.
There are a few frames of quality but for the most part its on-par with Haruhi
Clannad takes around 80 hours and has tons of spoken dialog in the game. It is very much worth the cost.
And they told me Galaxy Angel had some bad art.
Hoshizora no Memoria is far superior to CLANNAD and is relatively as extensive. I might be an old softy but the main route was incredibly emotional to me. It takes (I think) going through four other routes just to access it. The art is way, way better too.
It's a kind of harem slice of life that would appeal to mainstream, with several kinda sad episodes that mainstream would bawl over. Romance was probably the clincher, these horny shits don't even kiss onscreen but they're totally down to fuck for a babby.
That's not even the worst thing, the main girl looks like a fucking insect, Tomoyo for life.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FAAAACE?
>MC went from single -> couple -> married
Not much anime can do this. It would be ok at best if After Story did not exists.
I wish I had physical copies of most of these games even on a different platform.
Just keep in mind that they take order cancellations as if you're insulting their obaa-chan.
That's because KyoAni can make anything look beautiful when they really try. A shame they waste all that talent on moeshit and harem anime.
What is it about anime girls with white hair that makes me so rock fucking hard?
>What is it about anime girls with white hair that makes me so rock fucking hard?
The white pubes.
>The white pubes.
Proper hentai has no pubes. If we wanted that garbage we would date 3d flesh sacks instead.
Just pirate it.
I'm play Danganronpa and it's pretty dang good.
sekaiproject are useless jews
fuck them
>Next you'll tell me I need to pay thirty dollars for YMK without any nudes.
I think I spent $40 for the DVD. Long after I pirated it.
Original Umineko has ass for art and everyone raves about it over the more modern one.
I dont know what hentai you're watchinb but tons have pubic hair in them. Not very much, but its there.
I got that reference, thank you
I know what you mean. It's the extremely low foreheads that bother me more. Like when the entire face gets scrunched below the middle while the bangs and forehead take up the top half. Can't fucking stand it.
i got the special edition for pc from jast a long time ago, bought it anyway though, pic says i played it back in 2014
Is Clannad good? My only experience with dating sims has been FE13 and Cripplefuck.
idk much about clannad but if it has ero scenes i recommend getting it somewhere else, steam loves to take that stuff out which will make you patch it in later.
Clannnad has ero scenes? Like, actual sex/nudity and not just shitty blueballs?
Because some visual novels really are worth that much, believe it or not.
It's essentially the same thing as buying a book at a store, just with visuals.
Besides, there are some visual novels out there that are well over 100 hours long. I'd say something like that is worth 50 bucks.
Ham hands battler was much better.
i have no clue, i know nothing of it. im just saying that if it does, get it somewhere else because steam will cut that stuff off
What makes you think I'd download this game from anywhere but nyaa.se?
the music for CLANNAD has been awesome
Doesn't exactly matter if the game doesn't pace its music well.
It's moe. Literally the Moeblob style. It got retrofitted to mean "any cute girls" but originally it described the art of shows like Saber Marionette.
For fucks sake the one in the center looks like she wants to eat me and I'm not at all into vore.
So what are some VN Sup Forums would recommend?
is steins;gate any good at all?
You're not ready for CLANNAD at all.
Start with Katawa, then Yume Miru Kisuri, then Hoshizora no Memoria. If you get tired of it at any point don't fucking go near CLANNAD.
It's basically way too long for your own good otherwise.
Another one you could try is Quartett. CLANNAD goes on FOREVER.
>Yume Miru Kisuri
>Hoshizora no Memoria
Are either of those good? If so, link me the downloads.
>That feel when you're watching a show that's primarily drawn like this, but every once in a while a competent animator ignores the model sheet.
>probably has the worst art ever
I'm no VN expert but from what I've seen of Higurashi's original art, I don't think it's possible to sink lower.
what does it play like? A JRPG I assume, and what kind of porn is it? Vanilla /h/ or some level of /d/?
Tsukihime, ghost lesbians on the roof, kara no shoujo, Gore screaming show
I don't even remember where I got them man. YMK isn't hard to find but HNM probably will be. Go to /vg/ and ask them. You might have to wait a while for a reply but they'll be very happy to reply in their /vn/ general. They take a lot of pride in their knowing where everything is.
I thought I had deleted HNM and found it in an archive. It is honestly not easy to get anymore. Also, it will probably never be localized.
They're entry-level and good for getting into VNs, if you can get through them you can get through nearly anything
Muv Luv's another good starter in that regard
Use sukebei nyaa and vndb for nearly everything related to VNs
do people have problems with their pillows? I've had this same pillow for 16 years and it still springs back like the day I bought it, maybe I just lucked out
I bought it so I could surround it in goose down and sew it into a sheet. Works pretty well.
>using the same pillow for 16 years
...what?
I am not even close to finishing this
>Steins Gate in starter
Well, that's progress for me, I guess.
>Fate Stay Night
Urge...to quote...Roriconfan...must...resist...
Cherry was the only one that wasn't drawn to look stupid.
danganronpa is basically a visual novel with some gameplay elements
I change the case biweekly and keep it clean, since it still springs back when I fold it in half, there's no need to replace it
>Buying VNs
>Playing VNs
Why did YMK become such a standard for entry-level VN? How did it even get so popular in the first place? It just seems like a standard choose-your-waifu story.
Where's Katawa Shoujo?
>>Buying VNs
>>Playing VNs
No, Danganronpa was a rhythm game that happened to have the plot to Mirai Nikki contextualizing it.
Seriously, why the fuck did that game prioritize gameplay over story?
