Otherwise, I'm playing Kiwami. Really wish they would have brought it with 0 over to the west. It actually says YAKUZA KIWAMI on the PlayStation while my copy of 0 displays jap characters.

My 0 demo had the Romaji name of Yakuza 0 for some reason.

i've tried that before, doesnt seem to help
although I havent tried it since the update so I'll give it another go but I doubt it'll help
the game runs ok but sometimes theres slowdown and then speedup and the sound is sometimes sounds off

resetting the emulator to defaults has helped me a lot.

It's a shame Ishin won't ever be localized. It's so damn good. I hate that I only know how half of the abilities work (cause jap) but even then the ones I do know make it still fantastic.
