What does Sup Forums think about pic related 2016?
Best FPS I've played since GoldenEye on N64
One of the few recent AAA titles to not fall flat on its face imo
Sup Forums is in a bit of an awkward position in regards to it because there was non-stop shitting on it before its release (understandably because bethesda is shit though)
The single best Bethesda game and the single best FPS campaign of the decade.
Can I speed through without paying much attention to the shallow story? It already lost me with how stupid it sounds but the gameplay is good so far. Am I missing out?
It's the best game Bethesda has published.
But that's not saying much.
honestly the story is "you're the doomguy, kill everything"
that's it.
Pirating it right now can't wait to play it
No bullshit, just shooting.
It's decently fun for the $20 I spent on it. A bit short and easy, though. The lack of mod tools really hurts it.
>story sounds stupid
you're stupid, the story is barely even there. There's 1 point in the entire game where Hayden has you in a room and talks to you, outside of that the entire story is told over your headset while killing shit
pure kino
There are some sections where you're locked in a room or have control taken away from you for exposition. Watch a speedrun of the game to get an idea of how often the game takes control away.
>tfw you beat this game on Nightmare mode
what do I even do now?
happens maybe 3x the entire game, once when seeing olivia, once when listening to hayden, and then another time probably
Ultra-Nightmate
It's good and I was shocked
have a coke
and a smile.
There's also a few short cutscenes before and after each boss fight.
Glory kill cutscenes kill the flow, while the need for glory kills in the first place kills the joy of killing. Also the visual design is poor, as monsters blend in with each other & the environment, and it's generally difficult to tell what's going around you.
It's a technical mess with inexplicable performance characteristics on some hardware.
For all its faults Doom 3 is better.
Played the demo, it was okay. Played more like Quake than Doom though.
>Best FPS I've played since GoldenEye on N64
>tfw shit internet, it would take me like 8 days to download. And thinking no one here would use it.
Can you disable glory kills?
>having to glory kill 9 out of 10 monsters with the same shit 20frame animated move.
>can't even kill some monsters with certain weapons because they just end in finish him animation.
Just shoot them again, firmly, to drop them. When they're staggered for a Glory Kill, one or two more shots may splatter them.
Personally I just equipped the faster glory kills rune combined with the one that makes me glory kill at longer ranges and the speed stacker for glory kills. I can tolerate them, and it turns me into a fucking speed demon of rip and tear.
Best FPS I've played in 2 years. Level design is solid, it's fast, fluid, and fun. That said, I can tell my love for FPS as a whole has died out significantly. Even though I can't think of anything wrong with the game, I still can't bring myself to give it anything past an 8/10.
It's very good, I'll buy the singleplayer DLC for more campaign.
I can't think of a single bad thing to say about it
>singleplayer DLC
You poor bastard. There's been no rumors or plans for any SP DLC, especially given that they basically have to fix the multiplayer that Certain Affinity fucked up.
Aw.
If there was SP DLC Or much more preferably, a free update what would you want in it?
>Arachnotrons
>Pain Elementals
>New weapon mods that are balls to the wall crazy
>New power ups
>7 Deadly sins boss fight
>Taking place when Doomslayer leads the Night Sentinels.
The story being shallow is the point. While all the other characters have drama, you are just slaying demons willy nilly.
>no melee besides pressing a button to instakill or finish
a shit
Honestly, story excuses or not I just can't see the UAC weaponry meshing well with a Doomslayer fighting his way through Hell pre-invasion. He had a sword but that isn't exactly good for a primary Doom weapon.
You can melee enemies. The button to perform glory kills also smacks them with your gun Halo-style. It's not very strong, though, and definitely nowhere near as strong the Halo melee either. Berserk brings back the old fists for insta kills on any enemy, but you'd probably scoff because they're basically instant glory kills.
But he still has the weapons from his UAC.
>Classic Rocket Launcher in 3D
>Classic Plasma Gun in 3D
>Classic looking heavy assault rifle
It's a fun shooter that doesn't really try to go into a deep story and it really is just
>doomguy kills all the demons
Glory kills are neat but end up taking too much time and slowing down the gunplay a lot.
I think the fact that it isn't getting a whole lot of negative attention like other games on here should give you a good indicator of what to expect.
Multiplayer sucks.
>Classic looking heavy assault rifle
What.
How is an assult rifle classic? The original Doom was made in a time when gamers didn't know what an assault rifle was. They'd call it a machinegun if it was even in the game, but it wasn't.
Assault rifles are not even slightly Doomy weapons.
This!
Genuinely fun SP FPS with the best performance to graphics ratio in a game in a long ass fuckin' time. It's god-tier from a technical perspective and Pretty good as a game.
It also made pirates get BTFO which was amusing.
I am saying they should stylise the assault rifle to look a little more classic if they were doing a pre-invasion single player expansion to fit in the theme that Doomslayer is Doomguy from the original UAC.
That and it would look weird if was placed next to the classic weapons in 3d.
Doesn't it say "stay tuned for more info" or something like that at the single player main menu?
Extremely nice FPS game with just enough of a sprinkling of level up and character progression elements (I don't really want to say RPG elements) to make it interesting. I liked how you could upgrade everything, and the lay of runes seemed nice enough to actually accomodate at least a few different play styles.
The story also wasn't pants on head retarded, so that was nice. It wasn't exactly completely off the wall, but it was a little silly of course ("hell energy"? Really?) I liked how Doomguy was a completely silent protagonist, and actually done well. You could tell what his thoughts on most matters were completely without words (Such as the minor hesitation to initiate the core destruction on VEGA, and then backing him up - little things like that).
It's not exactly like the original Doom, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
It's a well made game that checks off all the boxes of a modern FPS, and I don't have much bad to say about it, but it also wasn't very satisfying IMO. It's like the definition of an 8/10 game for the genre.
>fight starts
>music is pretty good
>glory kill mutes it for ~2 seconds
for what fucking reason
also, enemies are way too sparse
seems decent so far though
weird pasta
...
one of the first things you hear in the game is "Rip and Tear until it is done"
its my 10/10 for this year
The game starts by literally saying "RIP AND TEAR" and gets better from there. The story is gleefully, unapologetically old school Doom, all the way down to how it's not really in the way or important.
...
>It's pasta if it's more than two lines
I'm sorry for your reading disability.
Fucking fantastic.
You run like a car, are made of fist, carry more fire power than a helicopter, and the story sits in the background where you can completely ignore the fuck out of it.
They horribly advertised it as a slow, weapon wheel having, graphics jerkoff game. And its none of that, well except the good graphics it has that. Its fast and frenzied. And even the kill system which I thought was going to be shit is actually good because it so Doom in its graphic violence and dire need of health and ammo.
Weapon upgrade system is great and even more reason to kill things, but you can just like old Doom make due with a shotgun and punches if you prefer.
Armor system is cool, but you can just beat things to death if you are good if you don't want it.
Ironsights are properly in the rubbish been where that stupid miserable blight on shooters belongs to make way for more things that shoot rockets.
Enemies are a nice mix of spongey punching bags and fuck me in the ass demons.
Levels are decently maze like and full of hidden shit and more so for having a vertical direction to explore in and the map is needed.
Only thing I can say is a bit subpar is the music. It really wasn't metal enough for Doom. That is the only bad thing I can say of it. Its not horrible just not nearly good enough for its legacy or for the game itself. Rip some Doom tribute remake songs and hit play in the background I guess.
Truely one of the best games I've played in years and I am a jaded asshole.
meh
felt more like quake then doom. The levels felt TOO open ended, and some of the soundtrack was godawful. The basic shotgun is absolute shit, and the upgrades are practically a necessity to do any actual damage. The melee is dodgy, sometimes I'd be right next to a highlighted enemy or even unhighlighted, hit melee, and somehow lunge 3 or 4 ft away from him while missing completely
and FUCK, who thought it was a good idea to lock you in a room for 5 mintues and shove the whole story down your throat
Console shooter featuring 2 second cutscenes every 10 seconds of gameplay and corridor into a locked in arena level design x100. An average megawad for doom 2 has far more thought put into it than this.
It needed more varied level design and a larger quantity of enemies to fight
Otherwise it's a pretty fun recent shooty game
>Console shooter featuring 2 second cutscenes every 10 seconds of gameplay
You chose to glory kill dipshit.
