I started feeling the fatigue during the middle of Starcade. Some episodes have their moments but im sick of it.

Starcade was a disaster.

For me it started after he did those shill videos for Ubisoft. Starcade was the nail in the coffin.

He just stopped feeling genuine and now everything is scripted and overproduced. There's too many slapstick gags and Family Guy-esque ''''jokes'''' now when before it was just him playing shitty games/watching shitty movies and acting goofy.

If he'd go back to the production he had before Starcade, I think it'd feel a lot better

probably when most of his 'comedy' and writing came from h3h3 and psychicpebbles.

I kinda notice this a lot with youtubers that start to get more funding and sponsors. They start not giving nearly as much of a shit and they try to do more "skit" stuff that never works.

H3h3 is way closer to old Jon though than the new shit. Most of their stuff is just unscripted reaction videos which is what Jon should go back to doing.

I recall Jon saying, maybe it was in a Q&A or in a conversation with AVGN, that he enjoys putting in higher production values to his videos and has an interest in filmmaking.

He had at least one video a year at one point or another where he addressed where the channel was going or why the lack of videos lately or whatever and his answer was always "I'm working on something bigger/better" and "I want to do more with the JonTron Show" etc etc.

The poor guy really is his own worst critic and at this point it's probably too hard to shake off trying to be such a perfectionist. You can even tell as each month passes by he unlists another video or two from his earlier years.

I feel weirdly proud to say I've never seen even one second of any of this guy's videos, and have no idea what kind of humor he does or what his voice even sounds like.

nail in the coffin is a little much for me, but Starcade is where I just felt like the tone shifted away from what I liked, a large part of that was the production.

Family Guy-esque is a good way to describe it. He's become trapped in his own formula by being too aware of it. It's a pretty disastrous place to be artistically.

It's the same thing that happened to spoony, what initially was a passion project turned into a full time job. People become complacent over time when they realize no matter how much effort they put in, this is probably as good as it gets, and they don't have that fire inside that used to drive them through the suffering and it just becomes a job.

It's not surprising. Most of his classic jokes, skits and scripts are delivered with lots of punchy moments and unexpected surreal elements like changing classic Sonic for boobs, or using a stock image of a PS3. One of the closest moments in recent videos was that Gollum guy.

He wastes so much time with useless props like the pony in that one episode, and delivers the subject matter with the passion of a CoD developer.
