Made a JP PSN account, downloaded DQB and DQH2 demos.
Builders is fucking great, simplistic fun. Going to be worth that pre-order. Getting started is a bit slow, having to keep completing quest in the first location to steadily unlock things.
Heroes 2 is more of the same of Heroes 1, graphics seem a bit more polished and there's less noticeable lag with waves of enemies on screen.
As for your troubles with the rom/patch, I only ever played 3 on NES and GBC. Look up said patch online and see if anyone has documented errors.

If you back out of the stats(?) menu the game crashes. I've played the game up to about Mudo's castle three times and been fucked over by this bug and lost my will to play.
This is the one Dragon Quest game I will never finish. I can't deal with this useless incomplete patch, and I don't want to play any babby remake.
