the only DQ game i could play more than 10 hours.

You should know that its combat is kinda shit

Fisticuffs is useless for everyone but yangus, and it's mostly useless for yangus
maxing skills is better than balancing them.

How so?

Jessica is extremely sexy (you might already have known this).

That if you're not playing the PS2 version you're playing babby mode.

Nothing you need to know otherwise, it's pretty basic stuff. Explore a lot. Have the hero use cheese in battle. As for skills, specialise, don't generalise too much (same as any game). You won't have much trouble.

medea is sexier as a horse

Whatever you do, don't put any points into Yangus' Scythe or Club skills. Axes are where it's at.

I am playing this, just started, got stuck after the first mission. I got Kalderashi's stupid jewel, but can't find the fucker anywhere. Where can I find this fucker?

OP: here's the stuff I found out so far-
1, if you can intimidate, use that over fleeing, the monsters drop stuff if you scare them away while if you flee you get nothing.
2, level up stats given to you are RNG based, so save if you can right before leveling up to roll the best stats as you level up.
3, find random monsters hanging out in overworld and defeat them, they give you these coins that are worth a lot of money.

You just press X 4 times (while waiting between every press), watch your and the monster's attack animations, repeat until the monsters are dead

I found a copy of the PS2 version at a garage sale for $3 bucks. That's what I'm getting ready to start up.

autobattle is a thing, genius

Put points into Whips for Jessica. Twin Dragon Lash is a great move that you'll want to use pretty much all the time.

Focus on Axes for Yangus because Helm Splitter costs zero MP and lowers defense in addition to doing regular attack damage.

Swords and Spears are good weapons for the Hero, but I think Spear has more useful moves. Either way, you'll want to be pumping up Courage like mad.

Put points into Bows for Angelo.

>autobattle
may as well watch a Let's Play tbqh

Angelo's skill point progression is abysmal, give him all your Skill Seeds, eventually. Hoard every Seed you find for awhile rather than use them. They are used in crafting and are ingredients in some very good things. Look up what you want and make it before using them for stats.

Watch out for ice wave, op

For you. You sound like you can't seem to manage strategy very well.

Try playing the game for more than 10 minutes and then talk.

Spears good for Metal Slime hunting but I prefer swords. Falcon Slash and Miracle Slash are god tier, plus you get Gigagash. Any weapon choice works for the Hero though really.

Oh OP, in case you haven't played any DQ before, you're gonna want to have a Boomerang equipped on the hero. Even if you don't put any points in it they make random encounters a breeze. You can change equipment in battle without using your turn too.

I've played it for over an hour

Put points into everyone's unique (fifth) skill tree.

You're clearly not going to play for any more, so fuck off. This isn't your customer service, you don't like a game then you don't need to hang out in a thread about it.

>You're clearly not going to play for any more
And neither should anyone else

Boomerang is useful for clearing normal encounter mobs, less useful for most bosses or strong single encounters. Spear is very good for farming metal slimes later (its critical hit skill), and generally good single target damage, plus it gets a priority move. Sword is good, and well balanced in general. Axes are god tier on Yangus, scythes are meme-tier. Fisticuffs is mostly not worth it. For the others, I recommend putting points into weapons you like and finding sweet spots that suit you, as the game doesn't really require min-maxing.

You're gonna have fun, especially if you stop asking people what you "should" know to play the game. Just dive in and explore at your own pace and than when you've played the game for a few days come here and make a quality thread. Now get lost.

Ehh depends. Hero's is great, Yangus gets some good stuff early but fuckall later, Jessica's is good but the best skills come long after they'd actually be useful, and Angelo's are all extremely situational.

You do get more than enough points by the time you get to the final boss to throw some points into them though.

whatever you say, retard. This is the last (You) I'm giving you so I can talk about the game.

>And neither should anyone else

My hero has 10 points on Boomerangs and 10 on Courage, how fucked am I?

42 points in Fisticuffs on Yangus is definitely worth it for giving him a really cheap and strong attack that hits everything. Boulder Toss at 100 points is good too but generally you wanna focus on Axes first.

Axes do get Axes of Evil but Thin Air is stronger for like 2 MP.

/thread

Not fucked at all.

>42 points in Fisticuffs on Yangus is definitely worth it for giving him a really cheap and strong attack that hits everything

Yeah I guess. I mean I just rarely ever felt I needed it. It's ok I guess.

All right. I'm gonna dump the rest on Spear and Courage from now on.

>wanting a hug box on Sup Forums
As a DQ fan, you should be able to at least accept the game for what it is. All of them have mundane combat, it's what the series is known for

You can beat the game with anything. Just don't try and spread points into every skill at once.

Sarcastic snigger is good for post game stuff on Angelo's tree, but his is pretty lackluster all around.

Hero's is godtier for MP reduction and Jess's is OP as FUCK. A sagestone you don't have to craft and it makes random encounters easy as fuck when they get stunned by her.

Boomerangs are a great early weapon. Spears or Swords are best for late game. Dump into courage and you'll be fine

I didn't use Fisticuffs at all the first time I played, but I got Thin Air for Yangus on my replay and holy hell it's strong.

>mundane

You either enjoy it or you don't. I feel like this word does kind of describe the combat, though. I guess it has a charm? I'm not sure why but mundane combat has never bothered me with the series.

I tend to max one stat first in any game I play, I just wanted to know which one I should have avoided. I got an impression that booms weren't very good for bosses in the thread.

It is worth it to get Boomerang up to power throw, but don't put any additional points into it. Power throw is really good.

What you wanna do is dump all points into their weapon, then when you hit skillcap, dump points into their fifth tree.

Put 3 points into Jess's staves skill though at the very least. Dump the rest into whips and sex appeal.

Is DQ8 one of the few jrpgs that are actually good?
Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, DQ8, ???

>people are falling for it

put all points into humanity and fisticuffs. then you'll be playing the game on hardmode

Hustle Dance is definitely good, I just wish it didn't take 100 points.

you don't really have to upgrade boomerangs. They are useful even with minimal investment.

It's one of the best jrpgs ever made. Especially with the NTSC soundtrack.

Menu based gameplay definitely has its charm, especially if you grew up with it. I think DQ's primary demographic are nostalgiafags

Personally I find new ones (ones I didn't play as a kid) difficult to get into. I couldn't get into 9 for instance.

They're weaker than swords and spears but if you wanna use em exclusively they do get some skills later on that buff their single target damage. You can switch equipment in combat so carrying around multiple weapons is easy enough.

So, can someone help me out on this?
>I am playing this, just started, got stuck after the first mission. I got Kalderashi's stupid jewel, but can't find the fucker anywhere. Where can I find this fucker?

>Primary demographic is nostalgiafags
>realize that I'm a nostalgiafag
>I like DQ because of nostalgia

How did it come to this.

I've never played a Dragon quest

Is 7 a good place to start when it comes out next week?

He's in his house or the bar I think.

>>I am playing this, just started, got stuck after the first mission. I got Kalderashi's stupid jewel, but can't find the fucker anywhere. Where can I find this fucker?
You don't know how to use Google?

I just got done getting the crystal ball. Just head back to the house by the well.

7 is the best one if you want depth and length

I think you mean the.....brystal call

Not in the bar, I'll try the house, thanks

Its good and all, but the length might be intimidating.
Takes a long time even in the remake to get to the first battle, and well over a dozen hours to get to class system.

>google it cunt
mfw

Sure, the remake speeds it up a lot (faster battles, less grindy class system, no more 5 hour intro before you even fight a slime)

Avoid boomerangs like the plague, they are good at the start, but worthless towards mid-to-end-game.
There are more swords than spears for the hero, and slightly more combos you can do if you have the Falcon Blade.
at the start, before putting points in anything else, put 10 points equally in the Hero's "personal" stat - Courage - and in Yangus's Humanity. This will land you two nifty spells for the journey quite quickly.

The game literally tells you what to do and you can't seem to be able to do it. I won't spoonfeed a retard

The ps1 version was one of the longest jrpgs ever made. The remake streamlines some shit but it will still be long as hell.

Talk to your party if you're ever lost, press start

It felt so good to dehand that guy.

I'm not the guy you were talking to. I've beaten the game 4 times.

What does a Witch's best puff-puff feel like?

...

I am the guy he was talking to, drop it, call me a fag for trying to get a discussion going. I want this to be a good thread.

>480x854
Is that android or something

You're not a fag. Telling someone to google something is what a faggot does.

>Witch tries to puff-puff Jessica
>She just laughs because her tits are bigger
The little details like that and Hero's curse immunity are the best

It is, I was replaying it on a shitty phone.

apparently like trips

...

>She just laughs because her tits are bigger
That one is a bullshit though.

Is that what it is? Neeto man. I was trying to figure out why he doesn't get cursed.

But it's not? I don't have a screenshot handy right now but when a Witch tries to puff-puff Jessica it just says something along the lines of
>Jessica laughs, having won the battle of the bulges

...

I don't wanna say anything cause there is a plot reason for that, you'll find out if you do the post-game bonus stuff

I think you should examine harder. Let me give you an evidence.

Good game, a bit overrated on Sup Forums tho.

best character coming through.

>you will never play the japan exclusive Yangus game
youtube.com/watch?v=c2caRBv-zu8

Dhoulmagus isn't the boss of the game. He releases a monster named Rhapthorne and that's the boss of the game. Most important people you meet in the game that aren't on your team will be killed by Dhoulmagus or Rhapthorne throughout your quest.

You're going to want to focus your skill points on specific things so you don't end up having shit all over the place without any of the best abilities. You can always use a guide for useful builds if you want to be extra sure. For level grinding you'll want Hatchet Man on Yangus (axe skill) and Lighting Thrust for Hero (Spear Skill) for killing Metal King Slimes, that's as much as I remember.

My only experience with the mystery dungeon games is the Etrian one, and I never want to play one again.

>Spoiling it for user

Saw that coming.

It's fucking boring.

You only need to know three words.

youtube.com/watch?v=FROJDIU_Ovo

His majesty is oddly poetic

Gotta say, playing DQ8 right after an SMT game was not exactly pleasant when it came to battles

I know the reaction, but the game is bullshitting us because Jessica's are nowhere as big .

mased bods

I played Persona 3 before this and I like this game way more

>I wonder who's behind this post

You should know to just play the game and not ask Sup Forums. Because all they're going to do is say it sucks with no examples as to why and spoil the story for you.

I'm already back. Hopefully OP got spoiled before my post got deleted.
