Should I check out the Yakuza series? They're dirt cheap on Amazon and look kinda cool.

Yes
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS
Its pretty good. The storylines have a lot of twists and are very engrossing (I was playing it and even my mom got invested in the story just from watching) and the gameplay is really fucking fun 3D beat em up with loads of over the top moves.
I'm sold. Thanks fags.
For the love of all that is holy, fucking do it. I started with the first game back in May and haven't looked back. 5 games in and the gameplay is still satisfying as hell. Tons of side stuff to do. Story is batshit insane with some tense, heartwarming and tearjerking moments.
Good lad. You won't regret it.
Just beware that the first game will be a rough start
Unless you're like that user who couldn't stand 2 and claimed 1 was better in every possible way
Man that guy was weird
This has to be the worst gameplay I have ever seen in a trailer. Why even show this?
>dirt cheap
You should take a look at Yakuza 2s price.
Great series though, definitely worth checking out if you like beat 'em ups and tons of mini-games.
Great soundtrack too.

What the fuck, the master himself is in the game. Did not know.
It's time?

It's always time.

I have yakuza 5 downloaded and ready to play because of ps+ I just haven't got around to start it because I've been playing halo.
>in the game
>that screenshot
Yeah no, THaTs running on a PC
>megameme
I take back my recommendation, you don't deserve to enjoy the Yakuza games.
Yeah sure start from 1 and move up from there.
1 & 2 have good HD versions that are only out in japanese but are relatively easy to understand if you understand even a little japanese.
Then let's get this show on the road.

Hell yeah it's time

>so kiryu told me he was going to take on the entire tojo clan
>and he actually did it, the absolute madman!
Best fucking girl man. It still hurts.
KUZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>it's a Baka Mitai karaoke session
can you steal cars and shit in it?
>best girl is never coming back again
>Kiryu will never look like a normal human being again
No, but you can pick up litter in Yakuza 5.
More music.

.
I'm interested too, are the games hard to find ?
I dunno. OP's pic looks more close to his PS2 incarnation than the PS3 era. Well, in my eyes that is.
1 is fairly cheap.
2 runs for $70 now.
3 shouldn't be hard to find.
4 is on PSN.
5 is PSN only.
>it's a rouge of love karaoke session
pastebin boys
Man, I must've got lucky. First time I went looking for physical copies of the PS2 games and I find this not too long ago. Kraut case but still.
Can I skip 2 without missing much ?
This is your taxi driver for tonight.
You'll miss a lot
>skipping on arguably the best game in the series
>skipping out on best girl
Emulate it if you have too.
You can emulate it. I strongly recommend playing through it, as it is one of the best entries in the series.
The plot, characters, and setting is well done. Fantastic soundtrack as well. Gameplay is highly improved from Yakuza 1.
My two favourite songs:
youtube.com
youtube.com
Jus emulate them, they run well on PCSX2. Do NOT skip 2.
The stories aren't connected, so you could skip it and still have an easy time following the story for the next game.
BUUUUT it's the best game in the series and you will be missing out on so much cool shit.
Best song from 2 btw.

Out of the FUCKING way!
Best hostess coming through!
youtube.com
>There's only room for one dragon... right, Kiryu?
>Yeah...
>tfw you beat these niggas up too fast to experience the whole track
That may be best hostess, but this is best club theme.
youtube.com
Highly underrated final boss theme not just in the series, but just vidya in general. So melancholic yet so intense.
>entire OST is adrenaline pumping as fuck
>this starts playing
What a game.
Hope you like soap operas.
>That fucking buildup
youtu.be
>those menacing guitar notes or whatever they are underneath the piano
>builds up to the percussion
fuark man. 2 was a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
...
DEJA VU
God damn, I did the same. Managed to get it working on an emulator perfectly before it was delivered aswell so it's just sitting here, unplayed. What a piece of shit I am
youtube.com
>only cutscene in the game to transition smoothly to gameplay without the fadeout
>they both charge each other
>slow mo
>Mine's title card appears
Emulate 1 and 2.
2 is hands down the best entry.
>3 different heats
Yes, for gods sake yes.
Please buy Yakuza 0 as well.
Freeze frames before each big boss fight are so good. I love every single one of them. Mine's was especially over the top and just perfect.
I never understood the point of those threads.
Why are you asking other people how the game is like? Just experience it yourself and you will instantly know if you will like the game.
Not only that when people usually say to play release order they don't listen and start to complain with some bullshit like "i can't emulate" "it's too expensive" or "the game is clunky"
Do you want to play a long running series and soak hundred of hours into it? Play Yakuza.
Want to play something because it's gotten a little bit popular, don't want to waste your time and play only the newest game and rush it to share some memes with your buddies? Don't play Yakuza.
>any sort of japanese board game in this series
>slot machines
>pachinko
o_o
>have to shrink Seijima to get him to fit into Haruka's skeleton
youtube.com
now heres the opposite
5 was decent but it really wasn't as good as it should have been. Really looking forward to 0.
Anyone else here legitimately liked the dub in the original game?
-_-
I spent countless hours of my life learning Mahjong just for Yakuza and i don't regret one bit
Never got to finish the big Mahjong events though, be it the 4 Gods in 2 or the tourney that's going on in 4~5
In particular kazuma's manly yell from this part gave me goosebumps
Mahjong is definitely fun though. I learned it through Yakuza and consulting jaypee.
It's fun in real life as well since me and a couple buds crash at my mom's Chinese restaurant in the back room every weekend to play a couple games and shoot the shit while drinking/eating.
>Really looking forward to 0
As you should, that game is one of the best entries in the series, going alongside 2 and Ishin for me. The story was surprisingly well-done, even for an origin story.
Should I start with Yakuza 1 or 2?
1.
2 if you can't handle 1's inherent clunkiness.
Don't bother with those shit games.
PS2 game with Sega Saturn graphics and horrible gameplay.
Just wait for Yakuza 0 that fixes all of the problems and enjoy.
YO
FUCKERS
TIME TO CLIMB SOME BUILDINGS!

youtube.com
I don't understand these questions.
You want to get into a series? You start from the very beginning.
1 of course.
How about you suck my general tso's chicken's soy sauce
I've been playing Yakuza 4 to start the series as I got it through PS+
After watching the backstory of 3 games following Hazama (game has a handy recap function) why am I playing as a benevolent loan shark
Why did no one say these games are more cutscenes than gameplay
This is MGS4-level cutscene to gameplay ratio - is the whole series like this?
Not that I really mind
>youtube.com
God damn I loved this part so much.
The song and those mini-bosses that kept charging at you was amazing.
>why am I playing as a benevolent loan shark
That's Akiyama, and he's based.
It's gonna be a long time till you get to play as Kiryu so enjoy the ride.
WHY ISN'T 4 OR 5 AVAILABLE ON PS4 PSN FUCK YOU SEGA AND/OR SONY
Can't wait for 0 though. How's Kiwami?
>Clay Doll On The Cradle
Still my favourite long battle theme.
When I first got to West Park in 5, I actually forgot about the Hills construction project. I thought it would've been cancelled again, but nope, they actually finished it. Was a bit jarring seeing the fancy wall instead of a line of hobo tents.
The ratio will tip a little more towards gameplay after a bit, the beginning of 4 really has a lot of cutscenes, though the cutscenes will still remain pretty long
As for the loan shark guy, well that's one of the fun things about starting the series with 4, i did it too and i was having a lot of fun through all the characters, especially Tanimura, and then when you finally get to Kiryu and finally play with the dude you've heard so much about through the recap and the game itself, you feel like a fucking GOD especially since he starts with a bunch of abilities unlocked
>More cutscenes than gameplay
Well I mean if you're looking to just rush through the story without doing any side-quests/minigames, yeah I guess. >feel like a fucking God
Yes this, great design choice to have the Dragon of Dojima retain his trademark abilities. Fits in with the story as well, since Kiryu is a fucking legend after the first 3 games anyway.
youtube.com
Best mix for best character
I loved that shit man. So good. I love Akiyama's random battle theme as well. Suits him perfectly.
Kiwami is pretty good, though I wouldn't recommend it if it's someones first game in the series.
Style switching is instant and enemies are more aggressive.
Whoa holy fuck that's him irl? Handsome mf'er
Kaoru's so fucking great. Great character, great story, double kicking thugs in the head with her is fun, nice design. Why'd they dump her? Typical "shit we wrote ourselves into a corner and can't give Kiryu a love interest" shit?
Though she's second best girl after Yayoi.
You're damn right. A lot of Yakuza characters have their models based on their voice actors ever since 3. Most of those VAs have considerable experience working in TV dramas/movies.
Since 0 is a prequel, can I start with that one and then work my way up to 5?
It's really cool in 0.
Especially since all the big bads are modeled after actors who star in tons of yakuza movies.
>all that cool merch at TGS
Fuck me, I want some of these so badly.
>youtube.com
For some reason that song screams SEGA
PLAY RELEASE ORDER YOU COLOSSAL RETARDS.
Did you play MGS 3 first too because its a prequel and MGS 4 last?
You're ruining it for yourself since the gameplay has improved with each iteration. And you'll enjoy 0 more if you play 1-5 in order.
Oh shit, that's fucking awesome. Fuck man. I'd totally wear a Tojo Clan pin to work.
Alright then, I'll go play 1.
i wouldnt recommend playing through them all close together, they play almost exactly the same and it can get a little tiring.
I would not recommend that at all.
It'd be hard to go back to the older games since 0 is so smooth and runs at 60FPS.
>Kido
Kuze's VA is a certified badass through and through.
The other guys are no slouches either, but god damn Kuze is just too good.
Why is he so orange?
Will we see any orange characters in future Yakuza games?
The characters are what make Yakuza to me, the storylines are generally fine until the end of the game where they become ridiculously soap opera x10 tier convoluted with twist upon twist and backstab upon backstab, 4 and 5 particularly. I haven't played 0 but I hear its much better about that stuff.
