I blame Altus for it's poor treatment of SRW. As for why we couldn't get Exceed.

Exceed was the reason I started learning Japanese, so in a way I have them to thank for not localizing it. Got a taste of SRW and wanted more.

I can also point at stuff like Y's, Yakuza series and Trails in the Sky/legend of hero's series that all took quite some time to get translated long after original release.

This is the very first game I played in mostly Japanese that I've finished (not counting the other shit in it, like the Hiyruu Tower.)

The first game Endless Frontier (which was localized, though good luck getting a hold of the cartridge for it) does. It's not bad. It has only 1 flaw, Forced Evasion is annoying as fuck.

Exceed improves EF on all fronts, there's more attacks to use as opposed to the 5 moves in the first game and FE is nowhere near as broken as it was in the first game. Not to mention there's more post-game stuff to do here as opposed to the first game which just had a copy of the final boss but in a different color.

But otherwise the game is pretty alright.

It was funny watching Chrom freak out whenever Lucina found a risky outfit cool or watching Lucina get confused when Axel was paired with them

It was a small vocal minority that bitched and moaned about the game, this kind of game is always loved because its literally a fanservice game about watching your favourite characters together, the people who didn't like were the people who this game didn't actually appeal to but still went and bought it for some reason

I played the first PXZ and I enjoyed it for a while but the longer it went on it started to feel more and more tedious, like maps just dragged on too damn long and bosses were damage sponges that only required time to beat and nothing else, so I never finished it

It is better, but thats mainly because its alot easier. A bunch of tweaks and the ability to upgrade your attacks to do more damage. Bosses are still damage sponges, but as long as you keep everyone stocked with the newest weapons and gear and level up their moves they go down much faster.

I'm glad someone else thought the same, Cain would make a good enemy unit, though I feel Adam would be more likely to be paired with Max in regards to same game pairs if he got in. Otherwise, I'd love to see Max and Marth together though Max/Cain unit or Cain as an enemy unit turned support for a while would also be nice...I can dream
