Okay, so it's not The Thousand Year Backtrack 2.0., that doesn't mean it can't be good on its own merits, right?

Jesus, this game needs to hurry up and release. I'm excited for it but at the same time super against it.

Okay, so lets say its good on its own merits and everyone is okay with it. Would you want this style to be the new standard for future games in the series?

Considering 90% of the people who made PM64 and TTYD so great no longer work at Intelligent Systems and as a result even a game that returned to the original gameplay system wouldn't be able to reflect the same charm or soul as those games, then yes I would, since as you said in this scenario Color Splash is good on its own merits and could possibly be refined even further with its not-disbanded team in future entries.

Even if it was good I'd just want a new gameplay style if I can't get the old one back. The gameplay in Sticker Star wasn't fun to me & seeing a improved version of it in Color Splash still doesn't look appealing to me.

it'll sell well and there's nothing you can do about it

the new stardard of paper mario is here

It's a WiiU title, there's no way it could turn a profit.

What merits?

It's Sticker Star 0.5
Did you like sticker star at all? Because it will be more of the same just even less original.

As far as I'm concerned just by having the same gameplay as Sticker Star guarantees the game won't be fun. Maybe the writing will be a step in the right direction on top of actually having a plot, but that's about it.

>Nintendo game
>Not profitable
Software is the only reason they still make any money on the Wii U, even Star Fox likely made money

>It's a Wii U game
>At the rate Wii U Emulation is going, you'll be able to play it on an Emulator same day it releases probably

Also, all new Paper Mario games aren't Paper Mario games, they're Papercraft Mario games. Their focus is far less on RPG elements and world building and far more on one-off events, dumb gags, and making a "fun experience" instead of a good one.
Also because instead of making every papery with a few side-jokes about it, they make it plain as fuck everything is paper and jam it in your face at every opportunity.
You put stickers on paper objects.
You paint art on paper/canvas/etc.
Thus, papercraft.

>"yeah but it's not a REAL 3d mario"
every time

That's a whole 'nother beast.
Mario 3D World isn't a 3D Mario game. It's a 2D Mario game on the 3D plane.

>Software is the only reason they still make any money on the Wii U,
It really isn't
Nintendo is a company that is over 100 years old. and it's fingers in far too many pies. The abomination that is The Wii U didn't make a dent in it's vault.

>tfw had the right MO

I mean, they're all good games (not great, mind, there are very few great games anymore, let alone Mario games)
but they just aren't what me and other people wanted them to be.

This is actually fair. Every other 3D mario game involved exploration and neat shit. 3D World is actually just 2D mario where it doesn't always side-scroll

has pretty much same amount of "exploration" as galaxy games though, if you'd actually playd both

I'd rather play Super Paper Mario 2. It still had a great story and worldbuilding and unique characters. Even bouncing on enemies had a purpose because you could still level up. But then you take Sticker Star where the whole battle system is obsolete because it's boring and doesn't serve any purpose. Color Splash looks to be the same thing. If they changed the gameplay to Super Paper Mario or something other I would be in. But they basically removed the tastiest parts of Paper Mario and left only a shell of it.

Color Splash has EXP.

...

Sticker star is very close to being basically mario battle network, they just need to fucking iron that shit out to play good.

They still made a small profit from it though

Well color me surprised.

>stops the game and keeps you from collecting valuables
Come on now

No
Everything I liked about the paper mario series can be linked to the RPG elements, and since they literally said that those elements are long gone because we already have the mario&luigi series for that, there's no reason to play paper mario anymore

The last good Paper Mario game was the Stick of Truth.

How many times has this thread been posted now?

Except all the toadstools are the same so its completly a souless turd

Only 4 so far. He seems to be alternating between 2 filenames "maxresdefault[1].jpg" and "1459901220133[1].jpg".

>they're Papercraft Mario games
I enjoy your attempt at forcing this meme but here's an objectively better one:

Old PM was Paper MARIO

New PM was PAPER Mario

>Liking South Park
Rule 2

And there is nothing wrong with either

Yes, that is possible, but judging from Sticker Star and what we've seen of this one it isn't likely at all. It'll probably be shit.

>Considering 90% of the people who made PM64 and TTYD so great no longer work at Intelligent Systems

Got a source? Just because they aren't on Paper Mario anymore doesn't mean they're totally gone, though I wouldn't be surprised.

Sounds like you need to start apologizing.

it looks like Sticker Star 2 so people are calling it shit on those grounds
