>Resurrecting decades old console wars
Really though it's no contest, the SNES had games people remember, the Genesis had marketing devices and Sonic

It almost doesn't matter. the 90s were generally a time when it was worthwhile being an idort still.

SNES in the first round.

Wouldn't be an idort in the 90s mean also owning a Turbo Graphics 16 and Jaguar?

...

it really depends on what kind of games you're looking for

for rpgs the SNES
for side scrollers/shoot em ups the Genesis

Not Jaguar. That completely failed to launch.

>for rpgs the SNES

> Not buying the Atari "two 32bit CPUs means it's a 64bit console!" Jaguar

SNES had more memorable games while the Genesis had more WHOA COOL games. SNES wins by a nose hair in the long run, though.

genesis

its a shame a lot of the best games for it are games that no one knows about

wtf is a "genesis"

is that a console for the american religious nutters?

...

lol that cord is a foot long do you play with it in your lap??

As a PCfag i wish Sega came back to the console business

Sony and Microsoft seem to be in a never ending war to see which one is the shittiest.

overall SNES but the genesis had my favorite 16 bit action platformer ever.

snes is the best console of all time

Genesis did what Sony does today. They failed however because gaming wasn't as big as it is today.

desu it would be perfect if it was sony & microsoft competing with each other and nintendo & sega were competing with each other in the other end. maybe then nintendo would actually try like they used to.

lol no. That would be either the PS or PS2

learn2sega

Both had great games
I prefer the Genesis for its shoot em up

That's not the ps2.

>Genesis did what Sony does today

...which is?

I think that the gamers won XD

But it's true.

stacking ?

Do you like JRPGs?

No?

Sega.

Off the top of my head.

I'm an overall classicSega fan but the SNES had so many classics to offer as well.
Really, both sides won in terms of quality games, those of us who didn't really pick sides doubly so. And with that said, the PC-Engine/TGFX16 and the Neo Geo had plenty to offer as well. What a great era. And the best thing is, you can pretty much access these entire libraries of great games with an internet connection and enough of a drive to familiarize yourself with emulation.
In that sense the greatest console era is now.

SNES would be nothing with Square and Rare.

Sega kicked ass all on its own. At some points, Sega was carrying its third parties.

Marketing.

Are you really gonna argue that?

Because I definitely have time.

yeah i am.

had both eventually, I won

console wars didn't exist back then, kids were still kids, only the most autistic children gave a shit

the short era of non-online gaming, and playing outside was a thing

I only remember liking Shadowrun on the genesis a lot

>console wars didn't exist then

Sega does what Nintendon't. You're full of shit if you think console wars weren't at their fucking peak during the 16-bit era. It was all we talked about. It was way worse than Sony-Microsoft bullshit.

>console wars didn't exist back then

w e w

ActRaiser 2 was shit compared to 1.

Both systems won.

>the SNES had games people remember
You're telling me nobody remembers Streets of Rage, Vectorman, Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania Bloodlines, the best version of Earthworm Jim, Aladdin, Shadowrun, Beyond Oasis, Chakan the Forever Man and Gunstar Heroes?
Fuck this gay Earth.

>only the most autistic children gave a shit

there was more competition at the local arcade

Genesis had Truxton though.

In my nostalgia ridden childhood SNES won because le Mario, le donkey kong, and shit that defined my childhood.

But in my heart Genesis won because I had way more fun and time put into emulating their games than SNES games.

SNES does have some incredibly quality games such as Tactics Ogre Let us Cling Together and Chrono Trigger. But I had more fun with Sega so fuck your objectivism.

>implying

Whatever, negro. You're deluding yourself.

Cans or Farts, which audio chip did you prefer?

I'm an FM guy myself and honestly tend to revisit those soundtracks more often as Yamaha in the Sega Genesis and many arcades of the time is more of an unique instrument (however harsh sounding and incompetently used in some cases), whereas I tend to prefer instrumental arrangements of the soundtracks the SNES had to offer to the near but not quite approximation of the S-SMP. Exception though being the approach many European composers familiar with the Amiga took to it, soundtracks like the ones to Plok and Donkey Kong Country 2 rival some of the best MODs out there in the demo scene.

just because the SNES had more RPGs than the Genesis, it doesn't mean that the Genesis was completely devoid of RPGs

You forgot Phantasy Star, Shining Force, and the good version of Mortal Kombat, pleb.

Gee, good thing they're both on the list you turd.

t. amerilard.

I never played those two and Mortal Kombat sucks, dink.

>console wars didn't exist back then

lol you don't remember all those sega commercials? genesis vs snes was the biggest argument at the time. How old are you?

Actual best 16 bit JRPG everybody.

i never said the genesis was devoid of rpgs though?

More and better

im canadian.

nobody said that. The snes just had better rpgs and the Genesis had better shoot em up/sidescrollers. Of course the snes had sidescrollers and the genesis had rpgs

depends on the genre

no way shitler, the ps2 is better.

SNES is not even the best console of its generation.

Gunstar Heroes, that cute ship shoot em up, and the beat em up games destroyed the SNES' anus.

Reminder that Panorama Cotton is truly the greatest Genesis game ever.
Dynamite Headdyfags are just going to have to accept the position of second place.

SNES did, but the Genesis was no slouch, you really couldn't go wrong with either one. Unlike these days.

>Goof Troop

where i grew up nobody i knew owned any sega consoles. it was just the poor kids who had them and nobody talked to them.

Alien Soldier is the best 16-bit game imo.

no one cares

t. amerilard heart.

only autisitc fucks watched, not to mention even cared about commercials god damn

you don't have a strong opinion about stayfree's old maxi pad commercials do you?

or mrs butterworth's syrups?

kek

>Panorama Cotton
And it used only blast processing, none of thosetgay cartridge addon chips.

This.
One of the top 10 masterpieces of the 16-bit era for sure.

you're an idiot and definitely weren't alive during the whole snes vs genesis

motherfucking BLAST processing! snesfags BTFO

genesis

32 Bit + 32 Bit = ? Bit

DO THE MATH
Besides, if you didn't own a TurboGrafx-16 as well, then you were a n00b. Only rich asses owned a Neo-Geo though.

First round early Genesis lead, ended with SNES win (if barely).
Second round Genesis by a wide margin.
Final round SNES, with a pit fatality youtube.com/watch?v=5ATYrLk1y5E

b-but console wars didn't exist back then!

there's not enough fan art of this game

I was alive before the first nintendo came out, and the only commercial regarding video games I remember is the stupid nintendo power theme and the stupid zelda rap commercial

how autisitic can you be to analyze commercial jargon like that even as a kid?

it has certainly aged better than most 4th gen games, scrapping the whole lives concept and all

Or PSIV would have been best 16-bit JRPG if not for the mother fucking random encounter rate.

Makes Skies of Arcadia look reasonable by comparison.

Oh, and I owned both systems. Genesis had JRPG's, SNES had far better JRPG's.

Sports and shooters go to Genesis

Sega definitely had superior banter.

If only it came out a bit earlier in the system's life and in all regions.
It's one of these games that deserves to be played.

games were harder back then but you wouldnt know anything about it kid

>Recently bought a Sega Genesis
>Can't stand that god awful sound quality so I can barely play a game more than 1h.

analyze? the commercials would straight up tell you the other system is shit

see

I'll bet you were born in the 90's you spoiled shit

i would've loved to see a saturn port at least. maybe even a remastered version now.

Genesis is metal af

>The other guys just don't STACK up

what did they mean by this?

Assuming you're not just trolling, is it a model 1, 2, or one of those clone consoles?
Because beyond model 2, you're going to get crappy sound that doesn't even approach the way these games are meant to sound.

dude, the console war back then only existed in commercials as a type of marketing, no one fucking cared about that shit, there was no internet so all your faggots didn't have a platform to argue about whats better, and no you didn't do that shit at school unless you admit to being a full time autistic nerd

Shining force > Phantasy Star > Dog shit > Final Fantasy > Dragon Quest

BIG.
BLACK.
STACK

Genesis for one reason only:
Treasure

ill be honest when i was young i never heard of half of those games.
Even now i didnt know Sega had its own version of shadowrun. Which looks terrible, compared to the SNES version.
The only thing Sega did better was sound and sonic and thats about it.

My first system was the Colecovision. When it was new, _kid_.

By the way, in case you forgot, the encounter rate for Phantasy Star IV was 1 encounter for every 2-3 steps taken on the world map.

That's not difficulty, that's tedium.

SNES had RPGs and fighters (except MK1)
Genesis had better action games (nothing the SNES has can match Gunstar Heroes or Contra Hard Corps)

I actually prefer Castelvania Bloodlines over IV and Contra Hard Corps over III.

I don't have the numbers but i would bet on SNES.
Also the genesis had horrid sound (limited chip and misused by many to create the worst with it).

Different user, but when I was younger the sound was fine. Now that's I'm 40 and my hearing as subtly changed over the decades, the sound quality is quite often grating.
