I sincerely hope everyone is way off-base with these ideas and the detachable controls is some random dumb shit Nintendo decided to patent.

The NX is a smartphone. Think about it, why else would they bring Mario to mobile?

I believe the hardware itself, with the idea of being a portable and a console has potential.

However, nowadays Nintendo sucks at making software and I doubt it'll have decent 3rd party support.

I haven't followed the NX at all but at first glance this looks like stupid physical gimmicky shit to buy after the Amiibos took off.

Hmm that is something Nintendo would do. Make it really simple to do in Japan with a cheap phone plan, and a huge inconvenience everywhere else while people try and deal with sprint, verizon, or whoever.

I barely thought it would live up to the hype, let alone exceed it. I've been playing for four hours straight across only two systems and about five planets/moons, and it has been absolutely and utterly humbling. My breath is being taken away at every turn.

I just drowned trying desperately to make my way out of a dark underwater cave on a cold, lonely, massive planet, with ominous growling startling me from far across some rocky, eroded mountains against the backdrop of a massive dark blue system. Earlier I was marveling at a herd of grazing antelope-like creatures on a little yellow paradise of a moon with a pink sky. Creatures were screeching in the distance and tinkling piano chords played in the background.

I very much appreciate the technical and leveling aspects such as mining and trading, but most of all, this game has been an extremely emotional experience for me so far. I could barely pull myself away from my first system once I acquired the warp cell. No matter what I'm looking at, I have this excitement and this wonder and frustration that I am inevitably missing so much. I have never, EVER felt this lost. Space just beckons, wordlessly. What a beautiful, beautiful, titanic game. I have no words.

I think you've got the wrong thread. The terrible idea in the OP image isn't real, but the terrible idea you're talking about was actually released.

Everything (and I mean everything) a company patents means they literally had a working version of whatever it was. That means Sony had some working form of this.

It also means Nintendo has had a working version of detachable controllers, holograms, football wiimote attachments, etc. Research divisions are crazy.

Don't play dumb, Nintendo's revenue stream is nowhere near Sony or Microsoft's. Sony and MS have their dicks in every pie when it comes to tech, consumer electronics, content publishing, operating systems, software development, you name it. Nintendo only does vidya and very rarely some health stuff.

Nintendo pulled off that with the Wii. If you wanted to be able to play 90% of the Wii library you needed a wiimote + a nunchuk + wii motion plus (if you had vanilla wiimotes) + classic controller pro + a gamecube controller and this only for 1 player.

You realize Sony gets income from every game on their console, not just the ones they develop, right? The same goes for Nintendo. License fees are where the bulk of profit comes from on consoles, bar the actually profit margin from the product's price, if there is one.

Those monsters are what the gamellay was balanced around.
Fighting these modern monsters that roll, jump and flip all over the map and constantly sidestep and hop away with the same, slow, clunky weapons is an exercise in frustration. Even worse that none of them can even kill you because outside of 4U (which is largely old monsters, surprise surprise), nothing in modern MH does any damage.
