Is this a good game? I bought it for 5 bucks years ago and didn't play it much. Seemed clunky.
It's worth at least one playthrough for the story. It's the most reactive shit I've ever seen. There's so many little details they wrote in for certain paths and circumstances.
Beneath the bugs, it's a pretty solid game desu. I like the characters, the gunplay is a little mediocre but the stealth is hilariously op. The choices you make can be interesting too.
It has good writing and best-in-genre C&C. Stealth is weak and gunplay is mediocre.
But "your decisions actually matter" games that aren't visual novels are few and far between.

Yes, but the gunplay isn't fun and stealth is incredibly OP. Max out martial arts & toughness and play it like a beat 'em up.

Best Grill - Sis, because that scene where she rescues you is qt as fuck. Mina and Scarlet tied for second-best, but actually, real Scarlet a best. OT3 ending never ever
Best Faction - G22, they're so much better than any other faction it's not even a contest (unless you count Heck as a faction), their uniforms are cool as fuck, and they have the best endgame sequence
Best Character - I agree with your choices, but the real Scarlet Lake for me. Also, Heck might be lolrandom, but even that has a purpose. It's just subtle enough most people don't notice, at least for the first couple of playthrough.
Best Handler - Mina and Albatross.

He just wants to protect his daughterfu, and so long as you don't actively antagonise him he's great to you through the whole game (I think you only lose one point of relationship with him by asking about Sis' locket instead of reassuring him you don't mean her harm)

I tried hard to get into it but I couldn't. Stealth doesn't seem very good.

Shit game.
SMGs do too little damage for how much ammo they eat and don't have any good skills.
Shotguns are radical since their critical hit and first skill ragdoll everything instantly. It's a good problem solver if you aren't getting overpowered pistol or stealth skills.

Apart from the achievement, never really got the appeal of SIE. I mean, her scene was pretty hot, but the other waifus were so much better.

I mean, it can be a funny scene, but you have to intentionally fuck up to get the good one.
Funny thing is that Sega wanted, among other things, (a) a Sis romance and (b) skill-influenced shooting instead of making a straight shooter.
Obsidian gave them b, which made the game much worse, but didn't give them a.

This thread reminds me that I still haven't finished the game. I stopped playing a while ago before the final mission and haven't gone back yet.

He's 10x the spy Thorton will ever be, he just has an IQ of 50 as a tradeoff to his retardedly high level of spycraft

Now that I think about it, I also liked Marburg a lot. He has some great scenes when you get along with him.

SMGs aren't much good, even on lower difficulties, simply because they're too imprecise.
Shotguns are both fun as fuck and incredibly overpowered, both in open combat and fighting from ambush, as long as you're not worrying about stealth. Their critical hits knockdown anything, their active skill makes every single shot knockdown for the duration, and at higher skill levels you can build shotguns that can either knockdown 2-4 grouped enemies at once or have a tight enough spread and do enough damage you can coup-de-grace most enemies instantly. It's definitely worth a dedicated playthrough.

Fucking perfect.
First, Sis comes and rescues you from the medical bay, she cuts you free and then offers her shoulder to help you up and gives you this qt as fuck smile.
Then she leaves, Albatross contacts you, and you make your way through the facility... everything seems normal until you get to the main corridor, when you can hear some explosions in the distance, G22 cut the power and communications grid, and a bunch of their commandos burst in and start shooting everyone that isn't Mike
It's great, definitely worth seeing for the Sis scene alone.
Good taste. Go back and finish it at least once, though, and even a few playthroughs can be interesting just to see how different things can be.

As based as Thorton is, I agree with you about the first part. Not so much about the second, because while he's weird as fuck and actually passionate about that random bullshit, he also manages to play you so completely Mike doesn't even get a chance to suspect.

It's great, especially because it's not just 'pick the same stance in every conversation with Leland'. You've got to have the right mix of denying him when he's fishing for information, bluffing him into thinking you did everything yourself, and taunting him for being clueless. It's really fun.
The fact they have the best endgame is just icing on the cake.

How did that happen? Don't you have to miss both her invitation back to her apartment, and then not 'rescuing' her when you escape Alpha Protocol?

Marburg is a fucking tool. No ambition, no creativity, just brute force. He's the Michael who joined Leland, and Mike picks up on it the very first time they meet in Rome.

I always alt-f4 the moment the boat scene is over, what the fug. Also whats all this talk about Heck and the train? I played the damned game 3 times and there are still scenes I missed? Don't think I'll play it the 4th time though, especially because all last 3 times were as a rookie and the forth one will have to be a rookie run too, because I didn't preserve my save files and cant run the veteran playthrough

Yeah, she confesses either if you go to her apartment in the endgame if you're her friend, because she wants to show you the real Scarlet Lake, a melancholy qt or if you run into her at AP headquarters.

Basically He's a complete fucking tool, even worse than Leland. He's someone who got fucked over once, and decided he's done trying to do his own thing - he stands only for brute force, for inertia, the lack of a desire to do anything different or better simply because he doesn't care enough, because the world burnt him once. He's literally a tool, and he doesn't care - acts like he's been absolved of responsibility because he doesn't make the decisions anymore. It's even worse because he has a choice, he could be better... he just isn't. Like if you played Mike like a robot, and a moron.

That's pretty fair. Still, after struggling to do I enjoyed getting along with him for a change and seeing those extra scenes. The best part of the game is trying every option except killing Sis.
