SEGA ADMITS TO LETTING THEIR QUALITY SLIP DURING THE WII ERA

>"We were a little bit opportunistic, signing a lot of titles and doing things that were not necessarily very good. There was a time when you could sell a lot of products, for example on Wii, but that market has gone. Today if you want to survive, you need to focus on quality. We want to create games that are very good and have a long tail."

I'm glad they got it off their chest.

>SEGA ADMITS TO LETTING THEIR QUALITY SLIP DURING THE WII ERA
>Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations and Sonic Rush were awesome and they were made in Wii era
>Sonic Boom happened this era

seriously, what quality problems? the only game you can argue as bad during the wii's time was black knight.

I want sonic adventure 3 :(
Not sonic generations 2 :(

>Sonic and the Secret Rings
>Sonic and the Black Knights
>other shit games that aren't Sonic related
Widen your scope user.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic and the Black Knight
etc

They were all awful.

>"Today if you want to survive, you need to focus on quality"
>They made Sonic Boom and Sonic Runners happened

I'm still not forgiving you for NiGHTS JoD.

>secret rings was bad meme

just stop

Right.
Next you'll defend 06.

There's a lot of fundamental problems with it, yeah.

You guys realize Sonic isn't the only thing Sega has worked on in the last few years, right?

Right?

>Today if you want to survive, you need to focus on quality.
tell that to NMS and pokemon go, the money maker of this summer

Secret Rings does a lot right but gets the controls wrong, and that absolutely kills it. I loved it when it first came out but going back to it last year was not fun.

I hate it when companies admit shit like this like it's some kind of divine revelation and we should all be proud of them for realizing that wow they shouldn't be producing shit. Give me a fucking break. You should always focus on quality, and if they'd done that from the start maybe Sonic wouldn't be in this mess.

You're a homosexual.

Secret Rings wasn't just bad its worse than 06.

At least in fucking 06 I can turn around instead of BACKLFLIP TOWARDS THE CAMERA.

Then there's this asshole who liked Chronicles

Of course, but it took top priority over everything else.

Please don't remind me. I was hyped as hell when it was first released but the final result was so rushed and disappointing. I even gave it two more chances with the thought "It can't be that bad"...but it was. Blame goes to the smartass that decided to move it to Wii when it was at first developed for PS3 and Xbox360 and yet they didn't gave them more budget and time to make a good job.

>BACKLFLIP TOWARDS THE CAMERA.

True

>I hate it when companies admit shit like this like it's some kind of divine revelation and we should all be proud of them for realizing that wow they shouldn't be producing shit.

I'm not sure if you know this, but to a lot of companies admitting they fucked up is equivalent to PR suicide.

>Secret Rings wasn't just bad its worse than 06.
Oh boy. Another Sonic 06 defender. Why people like you still exist?

At least Secret Rings didn't have lots of long loading times, nor it was a hyped game that didn't gave what it promised.

But they made Valkriya Chronicles, one of thier best games during that era. tho i admit the rest was trash

I may be homosexual, and gay, AND a faggot, but at least I'm not you.

Look, its not BAD. Its just horribly average. Namely the levels where the kids run around.

Unfortunately, keeping it on PS3/360 wouldn't have fixed it. It just would have made prettier mediocrity.

We don't know. The game ended up mediocre because of lack of budget and time to polish it. It wasn't that hard to make a new game like in the original but with graphics of today.

My point is that regardless of whether or not they admit that they fucked up, it never should've happened in the first place. You're a video game company with decades of experience. You literally have one job, and that's to produce quality games. Going "Oops, our bad guys, we forgot that our games aren't supposed to be shit" is just wrong.

Aren't they late on this? Sega admitted this months ago.

Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing was a MK clone better than MK.

You realize that admitting it this is in itself PR?

So... an open world crafting Sonic game?

>Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing was a MK clone better than MK.

?????

You don't agree?
Sonic All Stars Racing had savage Brutalities.

I just realized you meant Mario Kart

Wii era? Try since the Dreamcast era

My favorite is the Total War Shogun decapitating any sonic character in front of him during his all-star move

unlike nintendo who can't even apoligize or admit when they do something wrong

>federation force
Reggie: Y-you guys just don't understand
>color splash
we don't need 2 mario rpg series

and then during the xenoblade x segment of last years E3
>i'm looking at you metroid fans

I like Unleashed.

...

And then Fed Force flopped and was widely hated.

How's that humble pie taste, Reg?

GEE LET'S TAKE A LOOK

>Sonic 06
>Secret Rings
>Air Riders: Zero Gravity
>Air Free Riders
>Olympic Games yearly shovelware
>Chronicles
>Unleashed
>Black Knight
>Sonic the Hedgehog 4
>Lost World
>Sonic Boom

>terrible controls
>terrible level design

The thing about Nintendo is that it doesn't matter if they admit whether or not they fuck up because they aren't making any changes to improve their games. Anything Miyamoto touches turns to shit, Treehouse is censoring games left and right and right now the best thing Nintendo can do for titles that we haven't seen in a while is to just not touch them at all because they'll fuck them up. The only exception to this right now is Breath of the Wild, but I'm still waiting for them to announce how they're going to fuck that up too.

Best thing about Unleashed was the tie in short.

If they ever make another it needs to be the same studio.

>Anything Miyamoto touches turns to shit
Pikmin doesn't have a bad game yet though

>Sonic 4
Oh fuck I keep forgetting that piece of shit

What happened with the development with this game? It seemed like early on it really was a SA3 with 9 character stories instead of 3. Why did it turn out so bad in the end?

RUSHED
NOT ENOUGH MONEY
POOR DIRECTION
NOT ENOUGH TIME TO DEVELOP ON NEW HARDWARE
GAME DESIGNERS NOT SPECIALIZED IN 3D
OVERALL POOR LEVEL DESIGN
ZERO PLAYTESTING

They have franchises besides Sonic, user. not that you'd know since they completely abandoned them in the Wii era.

2006 was Sonic's 15th anniversary. Sega had to release it before the year was over, come Hell or high water.

They even fired their QA department to save time.

don't forget that there's been a new Olympic Games shovelware title every year, so that adds 7 titles to the list.

>Jet Set Radio
>Crazy Taxi
>Chu Chu Rocket
>Shenmue
>Drop in quality

Those aren't attempts at a Sonic game so I don't give a shit about them.
They still shit though.

did you see the new one coming out for 3ds

it gave me chibi robo zip lash vibes

Secret rings

doesn't look great, but pikmin 4 is still in-development so whatever.

>There was a time when you could sell a lot of products, for example on Wii, but that market has gone.

How sad is it that Sega realized this before Nintendo?

>For example in the Wii era.
Sonic colors, secret rings and the black knights were all relatively low quality, even though there's enjoyment to get from all of them, but what he's saying isn't at all that this problem was only focused on the Wii era.

>Sonic Colors
>low quality
I understand not thinking that the game is fantastic like most people like to claim, but it's far from bad.

OFFICIAL SONIC ERA RANKINGS:
1) Genesis Era
2) Dreamcast Era
3) Wii Era
---POWER GAP---
4) XBox/PS2/GameCube Era
5) Saturn Era
6) Wii U Era

>Forgetting Sega CD

>Forgetting GameGear

Heck off

That game gave me renter's remorse. What a waste of a weekend.

>don't forget that there's been a new Olympic Games shovelware title every year
No, there hasn't

Both are part of the Genesis Era

The only tolerable 3d sonic games are Heroes, the day parts of unleashed and half of generations

Let's specify

sonic 16

oh sorry, there's only been 5 and not 8. My bad.

I'll give you that, I was parroting something I heard and don't care much about the game. I stopped playing sonic games after adventure 2 for a long while and am waiting for the next one which looks neat.
My main point was that he entirely misundertood what Sega was saying.

>Forgetting sonic rush

Dude that was great on DS

>The only tolerable 3d sonic games are Heroes

Can't you see the difference between saying you did something bad like 5-10 years after it happened compared to literally before the game has even launched?

Good god those controls were a nightmare. I had friends who bought the game, I was the only one who could beat it. They had me come over to do the last two boss fights just so they could see the ending.

Black Knight took a step forward and a step boss. Controlling Sonic was slightly less shitty with the nunchuk but the fucking waggling ruins it. There's almost no strategy needed except for the super hard Shadow fight.

Only 1/4 of Heroes is good. Half if you like Team Sonic with more enemies.

Maybe for its time but trying to play it like a platformer is punishing.
People only remember it for the music and Blazeposting.

At least the story stayed contained in the sonic universe rather than adding chaos: the edgeLord

>Sonic
>story
Literally just had this discussion on /sthg/.
If you unironically want a story in Sonic games, pack your shit and take it there.

But Heroes completely ruined Metal Sonic which is an inexcusable crime.

Haven't played it in a while, maybe it didn't age well. I didn't really think it was supposed to be a hardcore platformer, just fast and over dual screens to be neat.

Ow the Edge is a sequel to Shadow's subplot in Heroes.

They added Robot the Edgelord instead. He's good in the comics, but in the game MUST KILL ROBOTS EGGSMAN WHY YOU LOCK ME UP

I first got it after having taken a long Sonic hiatus in 2005.
I loved it then but after returning to the classics I realized how shit it was.
It's basically Sonic 4 with boost. Better music though, Naganuma is pretty based.

I'd prefer no plot desu. But I tried playing adventure and starting fighting water demons or some shit. At least Heroes plays like a 3d sonic game.

>Burning Rangers and Jet Set Radio would've been perfect for the Wii gameplay wise
>Instead we got Nights and Samba we Amigo

JUST!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't want to go in deeper detail why Heroes is bad so I'm just gonna leave this copypasta I saved

>Power formation: The Game
>The special stages weren't particularly well designed
>the levels went full dumb "corridor in the sky" (Sonic Adventure started this trend but Heroes kicked it into high gear)
>The game was visually pretty awful (a combination of poor use of Renderware, and those shiny models)
>If you played it on the PS2 (as most kids probably did), you got a terrible glitchy version
>Same goes for PAL versions of the game
>Butchered the Chaotix and Shadow
>They even knew the team system was dumb so they had to turn it into a kind of "lock-and-key" situation where they forced you to switch and do tedious shit at certain points, everybody really just wants to be the speed character
>Health bars have no place on Sonic enemies
>Bosses were bland, repeated, and there were those """"""boss""""" arenas where it's just a tedious enemy rush
>Grind rails were downgraded from actual level elements into actual rails to push you along automatically, no effort required
>LOOK AT ALL THOSE EGGMANS ROBOTS, the voice acting was always bad but the amount they threw into the levels themselves was unbearable

That meme will never get old

Played on Xbox so I never got the glitches. I see where you're coming from but I liked it.

Underrated

I can guarantee you that Burning Rangers and Jet Set Radio with wii motion controls would not be as fun as you're imagining it. Motion controls ruin games, and it hurts a lot worse when it's a game from a highly praised series.

They literally have a "better controls" upgrade

>Motion controls ruin games
Not rail shooters, or arcade like games tailored to it, like the Trauma series.

For the most part though, I agree.

>mostly scripted 3D levels
>filler levels
>boring 2D platforming
>bland 2D physcis compared to Genesis games

I honestly preferred the daytime levels of Unleashed to all of Sonic Colours

youtube.com/watch?v=LAxiJCbnuZ0

>I honestly preferred the daytime levels of Unleashed to all of Sonic Colours

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. People liked the daytime levels, they just hate Unleashed because those levels are like, 20% of the game and the rest is padding.

at least they admit it unlike certain competition
sega does what nintendon't

I think that's a pretty universal opinion user.

True but I never said it was unpopular

Didn't they already do this when they "delisted" a bunch of their games when Sonic was on the upswing in 2010/11?
