Never played, why do so many people say its shit?

Never played, why do so many people say its shit?

It's just a series of fetch quests with a very shallow RPG coat of paint on top.

There is no character progression or depth to the combat, the whole game is just "wander around to find X item that clears Y obstacle or boss"

They can't appreciate it's genius design.

Why do you care?

Stickers

There's no real point to fight normal battles except for fun.
You only get coins from most battles which can only be used to buy stickers which are consumed for all attacks in battle and which can be very easily found and upgraded for free anyway. Thus there is no real benefit to battle unless you want to kick the ass of some enemies or see what some stickers do. Even if you do end up in battle, you can run away at no cost and it makes the enemy despawn from the map.

because i might pick it up one day?

>Bowser Jr.
All it takes for me not to buy a game.

If you liked any of the first 3 games, you won't like this or Color Splash. Simple as that.

There's not much of a point to battling anyone aside from the bosses because you don't get exp, there's no progression system of any kind
Your attacks are made from one-use consumable stickers that you have to collect
No partners

you aren't forced to battle enemies except for a few and bosses
no leveling up
gameplay isn't that great and some battles require the use of thing cards to even have a chance against the boss
awful story
barely any unique characters compared to the other paper mario games. its all toads

At least attempt to find out for youself then????

Just play the game.

There's only two battles that requires a thing sticker and one is a tutorial fight for things. Every other boss can be handled with a little preparation.

it actively goes against its own gameplay
the levels are laid out just like an rpg, they're too bland to be a platformer or action adventure
but it tries everything it can to not make it an rpg
no leveling up means the battles are pointless, as coins are excessively abundant. The game basically shits on you for playing it like an rpg because battles make you lose cards and bosses need a special item to be properly defeated
this game has no idea what it wants to be, but I say it comes closest to a point and click game
but then again, a point and click game has great writing to make up for it's shallow gameplay, which SS has not

how the fuck did this ever get past the idea phase is beyond me

The only thing that I actually hate about this game is that you have to fight bosses to find out what sticker you must use to kill them, then go all the way back to the town to get it and all the way to the boss again

Because it's not Thousand-Year-Door.

Play it and find it out.
It's not that bad. Just mediocre.

It's game design is so fucking flawed.
Battles are pointless. No enjoyment comes out of their shallow mechanics, and you are rewarded with nothing but coins to buy stickers (but you're better off not using them in the first place).
I am so amazed Nintendo published this piece of shit. It's like they forgot how to design a game.

>tfw I bought it on day one

Worst purchase ever

It's okay when SMT makes fucks you over with a boss and makes you go fuse demons with immunities.

it's an RPG with almost no RPG mechanics

Casuals can't handle the hardest Paper Mario game ever made.

It's not exactly rewarding to beat a boss without using its weakness, it's a fucking slog.

Bought it through impulse since it was winter holidays and wanted to add a 3ds rpg to my collection to feel comfy.

What I got was a very dull pathetic excuse of an rpg with a paper mario theme. Theres no levels, your stickers go away and coins are everywhere. So theres no reason to really even do battles, no clever puzzles, game just feels bleh.

Its bad but its playable its just bad, what a disappointment of a game. Its like eating the weird vegan food with little flavor.

ban this underaged faggot already

If a game is objectively inferior to the first game of its series, then it has no right to even exist as a finished product. There is not a single thing it does better than any other Paper Mario game.

How's that any different from other rpgs with high HP bosses that deal a lot of damage?

It's an Paper Mario ripped out of any story, original designs and RPG elements. Do I really need to tell you more?

Here you go
At least CS is looking like it's improving a bit but why are they still keeping the horrible battle system and things

I guess Sticker Star isn't the only game with poor design then. Who'd have thought?
At the very least, other games don't tie your basic attacks to a finite resource. Imagine having to use FP just to hammer something in TTYD.

So you haven't bought Sunshine, Galaxy 1&2, or any of the NSMB? Sounds like you don't buy Mario games in general.

>other games don't tie your basic attacks to a finite resource
But they have? It's not like it's ever an issue in this game anyway even if you don't use boss weaknesses. Just debuff boss defenses and make use of the slots to attack multiple times before the debuff wears off.

no muh OC's

I pirated them, Good games. I bought MKDS, Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario 3D World.
