I think it's the lack of universal defensive options the do it. Everyone has these character-specific things.
Games like KOF13, there was a top 5 or 10 or whatever.. but you could still do pretty good with characters like Joe, Mature, Terry, etc.

There isn't a huge disparity between top and bottom tier in sfv, its relatively balanced. I'd say a little of both, tweaking each character and maybe some mechanic overhauls.

-nash is really fine imo, just popular. At most, make his dash slower
-make bisons parry as fast as ryus, give him an overhead and a better antiair

the rest of the dlc characters idk, they'll probably get buffed here and there since they're generally lackluster compared to the original roster.
big mechanic overhauls. I'd like the removal of jab antiairs alongside the buffing of other antiair options. The jumpin options feel too good versus the lackluster weak AA that reset into a neutral situation.
Other than that the game is pretty aces, maybe they'll cut down on the 8frames thing but I think thats mainly a big meme.

The mid-tier character could use some quality of life changes too. Some match-ups are quite skewed.
the main problem with the game is that even if you know what top tier chars are going to do, you cannot stop it reliably. you're first making an educated guess on what your opponent does, but then you also have to guess the exact timing and if you fuck up, you eat 350 damage cc corner carry combo anyway. meanwhile chars like alex have to gamble with every single button press. what good are normals with long reach when theyre so incredibly easy to counterhit or whiffpunish, but are also -4 or -6 on block?
my ultra plat opinions:
-nash needs a hurtbox on his backdash. i guess correct on nash backdashes 80% of the time and yet i can't punish him if he does it when he was point blank right before.
-ken needs a hurtbox on s.hk. my feet regularly go deep into his upper body and yet don't do damage
-the risk/reward on mika clap spam is incredibly skewed. nobody can punish that shit. i get counterhit trying to sweep outside of range. my sweep=90dmg, her clap=corner carry + 250 dmg. i have no idea how to fix this other than giving that dumb clap double or triple recovery frames and not allowing it to be option selected
-rashid frames are fine, he can push buttons all day and is only -2 on the dumb tornado spam. he just needs slight damage buff
chars like zangief, birdie, alex have long range attacks that have no reason to exist because their hurtbox stays out forever. alex poke for 60 dmg? whats the point when good chars can try to mash whiffpunish out of range with hpxxspiral arrow into endless meaty/throw setups?
with the exception of chars like that, most chars have no hurtboxes on retracting limbs and are impossible to hit even if you're expecting their buttons. so footsies are all just a mashfest. idk i keep posting this shit in every thread idk why i bother. the game isnt fun

Mika makes this game unfun. In SFIV you could instant block a lot of the pseudo-unblockable and vortex bullshit, so I never had a problem with it. SFV Mika makes me feel like I'm frozen in godly blockstun until she does her bullshit 50/50 and I have to guess because impossible to really evaluate what they are 100% going to do and react thanks to 8 frames.

Mika is barely tolerable as long as you're playing someone with a reversal. Trying to play against her as someone like Vega, who not only has no reversal but has a terrible V-reversal, is just awful.
You're kidding yourself if you believe 8 frames are responsible for you losing against Mika. The character is fundamentally broken. Chances are if they actually lower the input delay to 6 frames or whatever, they will adjust frame data accordingly. Bottom line: She will still kick your ass.

i play with v-sync off which supposedly is 5 frames. it's still impossible to react to most things. even with 2 frames it'd be hard. at least cr.hp would be hittable because it moves her forward but her clap or moves like chun s.hp would still be unpunishable because of the sheer range and hurtbox retracting

By the way, I'd advise against playing with V-Sync off. It creates lag issues.
