no, THUG 2 was the decline.
Sure, THUG 1 had some gimmicks, but in comparison with the second it is real life to a comic book.
The only reason the first THUG had those gimmicks was to make use of getting off your board. What fun would it be if you could only walk up and down stairs? It granted access to rooftops and all kinds of other cool hidden areas that were previously unreachable in the series.
And THUG 1 isn't great because of story alone, it introduced individualism and style into a previously arcade-y series.
Thug 2 was truly the decline. They took notice of Bam Margera's fame and decided they would make the game wacky. Sure it was kind of fun, but the added surrealism was never removed. Starting with THUG 2 you could jump higher and go faster than the previous series, and it moved the series from being pleasantly arcade-y to a modern knock-off of Top Skater. The mechanics were ruined from that episode on.

They still had plenty of clothes, but it's stupid you are stuck with the skin color you pick at the beginning of the game. They took out all the stupid shit like being able to be a skeleton or invisible. I'm sure they took out the ability to be a girl because the other female character becomes your girlfriend, and lesbians weren't as accepted back then.
