its alright for a casual bash, there's a lot of weapon variety. unfortunately the deeper you get into it, the worse it gets, and the capacity for fun gets lower. it gets to the point when understanding the meta means understanding 1v1 is mostly RPS match-ups and only your position within a whole team unit against the enemy unit really matters. getting anywhere beyond very casual entry MMR means becoming very cookie-cutter in your picks. it has a real "side game" feel, which is okay. i despise LoL but i can see it's similar attraction as a casual side game for groups of gamer bros. it just gets old real fast to me and i only like about 3 characters.

i won't go into my retarded playerbase rant again, but yeah its better to have competent friends playing.

It's a more kid friendly TF2, but with more playable characters, no mods and no keys for crates.

I haven't seen it's community yet...

Casual team shooter, it's good for people who have no redeeming skills and think competitive tf2 is a thing.

For about a week. It's too shallow to play for anything longer. Quit season 1 at rank 74.
I imagine it's better with a full team of 6.

Its pretty shit. Not because it's casual but because of balancing leading to the same set of heroes on every side

Its too damn slow and the maps are the worst thing I've ever played on in a fps not one single good one and the countering system ruins playing every character which is the complete opposite of what Blizzard wanted also ultimates are pure cancer and many other problems, basically only play this game if you have friends online or irl

I started off really enjoying it. But the more and more competitive you play the less fun you have. The game is dominated by meta freaks who demand that you play a particular setup. Most of the time, they are probably right, because the lack of maps and characters available means that you are at an immediate disadvantage unless you play in a well coordinate team and have a particular team composition. Reinhardt for example is simply a MUST if you want to do well on payload maps, because nobody else can fill his boots. A Reinhardt means that an Ana is would be more than necessary to boost the fuck out of him. An enemy Reinhardt/Ana combo should be countered with its own and so and and so fourth

Blizz should have kept Overwatch in an open beta until there was at least one more game mode and the roster was twice the size as it is now.

Sure, if you like SHIT. It's pretty fun with a varied cast.

every single post here is correct

It's decent, but it's lack of content and very narrow maps kills any longevity it could've had

this one as well

>Ana boosting Reinhardt
>When there's a Reaper on the same team
FUCKING STOP

Its fun. I drop in from time to time. But instantly get bored after a match or 2.

>Maps are horrifically designed. Like early TF2 bad. Chokepoints out the whahoo.
>Because maps are badly designed, many maps need a specific team set-up, reindhardt is pretty much mandatory on a payload map.

I wouldn't recommend buying it if that's what you're asking.. Bought it at launch and i've only played it for about 3 hours, 2 of which were at launch.

This. The game has also unfortunately turned into "who can ultimate the other team quicker in order to gain the advantage". There's a patch coming up which will reduce ultimate buildup, but that only fixes like 10% of the issues this game has.

What's the other 90?

But let me get quite honest here...
Overwatch is fun, but can become quite repetitive and dull after a while. I normally play OW for about 2-3 hours before I eventually get tired and switch over to another game. The game does have it's positives (Weekly events, collectibles, characters and it's framerate), but it would slimmer down in enjoyment after a couple of days.

Its alright. It really gets stale after a while and the balance currently is horrible
playing for fun is impossible on pc, e-sports kids are complaining every game.

Hop into a thread in /vg/ and you'll probably find out. The main issues at the moment are

Ult buildup
Super stale meta
Obvious character balancing issues
Lack of characters
Lack of game modes
Lack of maps

It's a fun shooter when you only have 10-20 minutes to play. Characters are all fairly entertaining and different from each other.

Only problem is shitheads mixing up the purpose of competitive & quickplay. So you get some tearing teams apart because they're trying out new characters in competitive for fun, or kids in quick play trying to force their favorite streamer picks. Just throw a couple placement matches if you don't want to play with higher ranks.

chokepoints character variety/balance game modes double KotH maps chokepoints ultimate balance hitboxes too much focus on cosmetic shit and chokepoints

its not 40 dollars fun

>$40 fun

So, Shadow Warrior 2 is $40 fun, but not a competitive shooter from Blizzard?

Was pretty fun at first, but it gets worse the more you play it. Game doesn't get any better when you play comp so don't believe that garbage. Community is shitty and it feels as if the balance and variety is shittier. Huge lack of content and regular updates, map layouts are too big for the attacking team with these huge stretches of land mixed with really slow movement speed and defending is usually right next to the point so the game feels generally really slow-paced. Koth is pretty bad because of how the maps are laid out and the UI is even worse with the lack of a proper scoreboard and the reddit-tier voting system taking an entire screen. Also there's no proper game mode selection so you play whatever's given to you and from my experience- my least favorite maps (Nepal and Lijiang) get picked constantly and my preferred (Volskaya and Dorado) never get chosen. In fact, when I first played this game I never got a chance to play Volskaya until I was around 10 hours in.

Either way, tl;dr don't get this game right now. Its super rough and unless you got some buddies to roll with, its going to end up being a miserable experience

The new Baby's First FPS
>Balance is skewed (you'll almost always see a McCree at least once in a match, but never a Symmertra)
>games are won and lost less by personal skill level and more by how many times your team can mash Q
>you will learn to loath certain classes
>competitive meta is less about good, varied team composition and more about using whatever single set up beats all others (3 tanks Rein/3 support Ana) until Blizz nerfs it and people move on to the next one
>leveling system, beyond getting free loot crates and how many hours you've tanked into the game, is pointless
>Game mode variety boils down to attack/defend that sometimes transitions to payload, and King of the Hill that always devolves into a 99% / 99% contested fest
>A touch of redundancy with the scoring system in KOTH: IE "IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU JUST WON THE MATCH FROM THE GAME TEXT, HERE'S A BIG FUCKING SCREEN THAT SAYS YOU WON THE MATCH"
>A spray system put in merely on the merit TF2 has it (and has none of the charm since you can only use in-game sprays and not your own)
>Blizzard jerking themselves off to their own references (Blizz studios in Hollywood, D.va being recruited on the merit she was good at Star Craft 2)
>"We totally don't want to copy Valve with TF2, so here's a sniper, a medic, demoman, engineer, and a soldier that function the same way they do in TF2 with some extra cooldowns slapped on"
>No, the plot of Omnics vs. Humans totally isn't an analogy to modern culture clashes
>You waited 3 months for a timer? Here’s your reward: Fuck you. Buy a Blizzcon ticket, you faggot

It's fun, but gets more boring the longer you play it.
Once you get any semblanse of skill a win feels normal and a loss feels shitty because someone of your team fucked up.

I haven't played it, butI never got the appeal of having shit tons of classes. With so many, some are bound to be watered down or useless.
Not to mention, the meta would weed out any classes that are weaker than the rest so it's kind of pointless anyway, at least for serious competitions.

>Competitive

Found your problem. Stop being a tryhard and play video games for fun, not for a false sense of accomplishment in your life.

Opened 10 Halloween boxes and got nothing but common and rare items and most were duplicates. Everyone saves ultra and then uses it at same time. Defending team wipes twice lose game, attacking team wipes 15 times takes two good fights wins match. Never get to play the character you want and stupid meta shit forces certain heroes. Pug matches are a fucking nightmare. No new content other then brawls that get put back into the vault forever after a week. Competitive system is no fun and unrewarding.
Fuck this game I'm over it.

That's about right

There's a handful of serious 'meta' characters like McCree or Zarya, but it's nice to have a huge pool of characters to pick from. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for the time being, considering that it's only a few months old at this point, but if it doesn't start shaping up the balance fast and start getting more maps/heroes in then I'm gonna drop it eventually

fun for awhile then frustration sets in after you become aware of of the games faults in terms of unbalanced characters and babys first fps hitboxes. community is shit. it should never be considered a legitimate esport game candidate since its an fps with classes and ultimates that require little to no skill to be good at.

Relax, user. That's exactly what my post was getting at. There's no point trying to play this game from a competitive viewpoint.

Now get yourself to bed or something because I'm clearly the straw that broke the camel's back.

You just need a different mindset.

The matchmaking is good enough that no matter what you do or how good you are, you are going to win 50% (unless you are top 0.1%). So all the effort you put in to make sure you pick meta heroes just means that you are forced to pick meta heroes to get that 50%. If you just play what you think is fun, even if it's out of the meta, you still win 50%.

Now, if you are decent at FPS, you get to the ratings where you are expected to run a meta team. You can still pick what you want, and if you play well, you can still win. You will certainly be blamed for losses, but it will also be a great feeling when you win. You just need to get over the feeling that if you played the meta, you would be a slightly higher rank.

>use a unisex name
>mercy main
>everyone thinks I'm a girl
I fucking hate this game. Can't wait until I get my PC in december and never play this game again.

What's the braindead, carry-my-team hero in solo queue?

Lucio, hands down.

>Is Overwatch actually good? I haven't played it.

I played the beta, I had mixed feelings on it. I recently bought the full game, and I'm really liking it. But I feel as though my enjoyment will come to a stop, for pretty much the reasons that this user highlighted (from other anons): My biggest gripe with the game is that there is not enough game modes. You are either defending something or attacking something. Over and over. Hold the checkpoint or move a payload (which is really just a moving checkpoint).

It gets boring after a while. If you want to ensure you will have your money's worth, play with a few friends instead of by yourself. Also, be mindful of the game's community--it's pretty shit.

Once you get to level 25 and get to try out ranked, you will notice at first that everyone is gold/platinum rank. Don't let this intimidate you, even if you do shit you will also probably place in gold (for some weird reason).

It's during ranked that you see a lot of players who are literal shit, who think they are THE shit because of their shit gold rank, which doesn't mean shit, since any shit can get that shit. So they think they can coach and shit, 'cuz they think they're the shit and will tell you that your hero selection is shit.

Sounds shit

Your post is the only mention of Shadow Warrior 2 on this thread. Also, stop pretending to be me.

wow man nice baitoda

They are playing with fire catering to the SJW's. The game is good and the characters are unique and fun but one wrong move and their asses are grass like with the brown girl being turned pale for a Halloween skin

>stop pretending to be me
Says the fucking fag impersonating me.

Kill you're fucking self.

If you don't play competitive ever, you should have fun initially. Learning how to play each hero and using their strengths on each map is really the strong point of the game.

not so much after that, though...

>Overwatch
>pandering

It's made by numales but you're kind of grasping to say it's blatantly pandering.

I enjoy it. Only reason I moved was because pretty much all of my TF2 friends moved over to it.

It's fun. Don't know why people bash it for repetition when that's basically every shooter, only this one has 20 or something characters to choose between, all with very different playstyles. Lootboxes give you something to work for too.

Of course it's casual but it's a fun game to play at the end of the day. And it's the only good game Blizzard has made in a long time.

the map designs are among the worst I've seen in shooters. Full of shitty chokepoints that make pushing through without ults nearly impossible.

it worked didn't it?
I had a more written out version, but it took more than one post to put out so I just cramped it into a green

No, but it's $60 fun. I mistakenly bought the Origins edition but I got my money's worth anyway

>fun, varied

>now
>muh 2-2-2
>instalock tracer/genji because 100 HOURS
>join team chat where noone uses their mic other than to tell you to switch to healer
>you cannot pick half the champs
>oh now they get a slight buff alright go pick widow/junk

i dont remember playing any other game where half of what i can do i can't touch - and at 3100 (where supposedly >diamond is 5% top players) its pretty bad

Community is crap, like most things internet now that its more than just nerds looking for fun.

Game is fun, but balance is a bit borked.

I find it more interesting than TF2, that one never really appealed to me. I'm probably biased on its style. Wasn't a CS fan either, but I would rather have the arena days back when it comes to multiplayer.

>it's a Sup Forums shows up in an inappropriate thread to force the discussion into political bullshit that was completely unwarranted post

>champs
you should go back to LoL, retard

>retard
well then im in the right game :^)

>>muh 2-2-2
This pisses me off to no end. Does either LoL or Dota have these issues? I know the community is toxic there, but having people cry at me for not picking the 4 characters that are in the meta makes me rage.

The game's okay, but the maps really suck. It's all one giant chokepoint and large chunks of the maps aren't even worth holding because it's not viable. Due to there being so many heroes, it's tough to balance them and make them all viable. For the rest of eternity, there will be a sliding scale of balance where some heroes become obsolete and others necessary.

>matchmaking
>"good"
that's a funny way of saying "doesn't put you with people your own skill level"

>let's make every map mostly chokepoints
>now let's also make one of the characters have a shield that completely fills those chokepoints

What do you mean exactly by 2-2-2? 2 damage, 2 tank, 2 support?

>and large chunks of the maps aren't even worth holding because it's not viable
Blizzard really dug their own grave with this one. There are huge parts of each map that go untouched because it's pointless being there. This is mainly on capture maps where the only place you should be is in and around the capture point.

Yes. If you don't go by this code your team will most likely flame you.

I wish that were true

Then I wouldn't see a "Fuck teamwork, attack, defense, or composition, I main Widowmaker 24/7" in every fucking game

There's a difference between flaming someone for not picking meta and choosing the single most innappropriate, shit-tier character, doing fucking nothing for the whole match, then turning into a crybaby when someone mentions she might not have been the best choice

A FUCKING LEAF

>But I got gold eliminations

I can live with 3 of one class, but 2-2-2 just seems to be the best team comp for 90% of situations.
My ideal team comp would be
>McCree
>Reaper
>Reinhardt
>Zarya
>Ana
>Lúcio
almost regardless of the map or enemy team composition.

did anyone notice the first frame of this webm is pretty funny

In that case, yes, League definitely has this problem. You can bet your ass you'll get reported if you don't follow the 1-1-2 lane setup + mandatory jungler. Going into more detail, if
>top is not a tank or semi-carry
>jungler is not a tank or semi-carry
>mid is not a mage or assassin
>bot is not a ranged carry + support duo lane
Then at least one teammate will have a mini-aneurysm.

That is why I don't play comp, there is not much teamplay on QP, but at least I have a bigger roster and not so many mad screaming faggots, comp sucks the fun of most games, I don't see the obsession that videogame players seems to have about turning their hobby in to a serious business, is it the fact that people annoyed you when as kid for games being a waste of time so you feel bad about it?

It's a very pretentious game in the sense that they try so hard to display everything as super epic and grandiose, but in reality it's kind of a slow and shallow game (unless you pick the balanced Lucio of sonic speeding).

If you're looking into getting into MOBA shooter stuff, I'd say try Paladins. It is better in terms of gameplay and gets big improvements every patch, but Overwatch is better in terms of visuals (both have shitty audio and bland music. And Blizzard seems to be shitting all over its community, yet the fans cling onto them like beaten house-wives.

I also want to add on how ultimates really drag the game down. I'm not going to say that ultimates are casual shit or whatever, but the game is too dependent on them.

It's not even worth attacking a point unless you have some ultimates in your bag. They are siege weapons basically. The entire game revolves around farming ult and then pushing in. While I suppose this is fine in theory and some may enjoy this, events of raw skill winning the game aren't as often as ultimate bombing. Basically, it turns the game into two revolving phases: Ult farming and Ult bombing.

Because the defending team also has ults and always spawns a few feet away from the final point, it is more or less necessary for the attacking team to ult bomb and eliminate everyone while hoping they don't get counter ult bombed. If the attacking team does indeed when the ult bomb phase, they've basically won for that part. The attacking team winning and ult bomb means the defense loses a point most of the time. The defending team winning an ult bomb allows the game to continue.

I find this roller coaster concept to be rather tiresome at times.

You're right and it's part of what this guy said:
If your team doesn't have a few coordinated ults up their sleeve, you aren't going to win. Which makes solo queue a bitch.

I agree, I do think ultimates are cool on paper but they wind up being too deciding on the flow of the game. What do you think about making it so ults are like pickups you can find throughout the map like health/ammo in other shooters? i.e. Genji runs over an ult pickup so he can swing his sword twice, or something to that effect?

>I got potg for killing three people in short succession by camping a hallway
>That means I'm above criticism
>Despite not touching the payload once the entire match because we're on attack

>If your team doesn't have a few coordinated ults up their sleeve, you aren't going to win. Which makes solo queue a bitch.

Yeah, in ranked.

Stop playing ranked Overwatch.

The meta only applies to master players and so on everyone else can do whatever but overall it depends on how well you coordinate

Competitive pretty much saved this game for me I get having fun and everything in quick play but the stacked heroes, none countering people, friendlies and so on gets annoying but at least it's not tryhard Korea tier where EVERYONE follows the meta in quick play and competitive

And another thing. The defending team has no real reason to use their ults unless the attacking team does first. Unless the game is about to end, the defending team is only wasting their potential power by killing people who are just going to respawn shortly while the attacking team MUST eliminate all or most of the defenders. In this regard, the defending team will almost always have counter-ults ready to go. In the end, this turns into ult vs ult battles which honestly isn't that fun.

play of the game was a mistake

I'm a Hanzo main and I never see this in any game. You sound like you're trapped in the lower ranks where people are too shitty to know they're shit and think a meta will change that.

I don't even play Overwatch, hence why I asked what 2-2-2 is.

>Hanzo main can't into team composition
Wow, shocker! Next you'll tell me Bastion isn't actually overpowered!

>Bastion
>Overpowered

Literally countered by corner peaking and two-thirds of the roster.

>"Do do do do! Do dooooooo!"

>one shot
>one shot
>one shot

Try super stale gameplay. I can't wait until this "hero [insert genre buzzword here]" bullshit is over. Every variation is boring dogshit.

Blizzard wanted to chase the esport and the casual baby audience. So of course the balance and gameplay is fucked beyond repair.

Its Mario Party: FPS edition

Don't take it too seriously and its all right

The problem here is less that people in competitive do this, and more that people in QP are too far in the opposite direction.

Overwatch is built from the ground up to be a team based game with a very strong emphasis on team composition. If you buy Overwatch, that is what you are buying, and with that comes an expectation that you make reasonable picks to accomodate others.

In Competitive this is absolute and should be stood by. That's not to say you can't make odd picks, but that what picks you do make are made with consideration of your team.

Quick Play SHOULD be a mode where you go to try something awkward or silly but where the team at least attempts to make something resembling a decent comp, but instead it's just six people playing the selfish role (ie the long range high DPS Widow/Pharah/Hanzo or the "I'm super special and should be the DPS man" McCree/Genji) with absolutely no consideration for the team, which makes it absolutely awful to play for anyone who wants to play the game for what it is - a team based shooter.

>But I bought the game and I can do what I want.
Then why did you buy a game where one of the core points is team composition, only to entirely ignore that?

>You shouldn't pick what you want to play
>You should pick based on what heroes your teammates want to play

Fuck that martyr complex logic.

How fucking dense are you?
No, seriously, do you just not get sarcasm or something? Are you legit autistic, not just meme-autistic?

e-hentai.org/g/767170/73f3aa375f/

don't mind me

Underneath a couple of poor design decisions is a good fun FPS but competitive bullshit ruins what should be a casual experience. Teams are too small for one. If they're going to be small it should maybe get to 8v8 but with the current balance it means you really feel a poor pick. They had a decent blend of DPS heroes to start but with nerfs they feel less fun to play. It's just another roll to fill along with healer and tank.

The maps are the worst though. They usually come down to two choke points in an area with the rest not really being feasible to defend competitively. Sometimes it feels like miles until you get to the point and other times it feels like you're spawning right next to it. The blend usually results in nonstop action with ults being the necessary element to push through. This was true in TF2 as well with uber but at least the only ult was on medic thus making them more fun. Being healer in this game feels like fucking shit especially if you are paired with bad players.

Meanwhile, consider another casual shooter game where everyone has ults: Splatoon. (I know what you're thinking but hear me out.) These teams were even smaller and the rounds were extremely short. Despite that, I tend to have a much greater attachment to matches in that game since I get to excel by myself much more often. Even moments where I'm not engaging the enemy feel more productive since I am always taking ground both is turf war and competitive. The ults in that game benefit with teamwork but there isn't one that outright requires it. You don't even get to choose your team comp, which isn't a good design choice, yet it doesn't feel that bad since you know it was the game messing it up and not a player's conscious decision.

I think in general the game was fun but it gets too much praise due to its lineage just like splatoon. Even still, I'm willing to say splatoon is a better game and got bored with overwatch at an accelerated rate. Too bad it was on a shit console.

>play zarya
>press Q
>win teamfight
lol this is fun :)

>And Blizzard seems to be shitting all over its community, yet the fans cling onto them like beaten house-wives.

Such as?

Are you autistic?

>How could this guy not understand my sarcasm online

You know real social interaction usually deals with facial expressions and tone of voice

I kinda agree, like if you play Hanzo and only get four kills and sixteen deaths so someone tells you to change there's nothing wrong with that I think people hate the "you have to play meta only" players despite it only being relevant to top 500 cause there are characters who are completely useless against most of them

Pros-The game is a bunch of fun, and has a lot of colorful heros with unique skill sets, MOST of them are useful if the situation is right.

Cons-Some of the characters are fucking useless, and there will always be one on your team. You can not solo carry.

There are other nuances but this is the essence of OW.

This. Short of characters that could use a buff or a nerf or a tweak, I've yet to see one that doesn't work for both defense and offense if you know how to play it. Some work way more easily than others, but with few exceptions as long as you aren't short a support/tank/whatever you'll be okay.

Likewise the rock-paper-scissor thing is largely bulllshit as well. Yes Mercy isn't taking out Roadhog, but Tracer has no problem with McCree if you are the better player, etc.

Only time I can see to bitch at least in QuickPlay is the guy who runs off alone, ditches the healer, and drags people down. As long as people are relatively sticking near enough to one another and are going for the objective its hard to fuck up. Granted it happens because pants on head retardation I suppose.

I don't mind people playing what they want so long as they don't ditch their Mercy, or try to push as the squishy, or zoom off solo to get kills as a tank. Basic shit really. Fuck I need a deathmatch game.

>now let's design several characters who can get past that chokepoint

is there a player count for overwatch? I can't believe that people still aren't bored of it.

>now let's design them to have no health, making them completely worthless for pushing a chokepoint

I have Over 100 hours and i still don't know how do people ask for armor and shield on ps4? ANY ideas
