How would this game be made today?

How would this game be made today?
Would you be able to play as the thing, controlling detached limbs and infecting people like in Stubbs The Zombie?
Will there ever be a sequel?

I've been wanting a stubbs the zombie-like game for a long while, humorous, horror, or whatever. Infecting to zombies, horrors, monsters, fetish-gaems, and so on. The closest I can think off the top of my head was the Alien Vs Predator RTS game where you played as the aliens. You HAD the capture creatures in order to create more aliens/xenomorphs of course.

is there a difference between the PC and ps2/xbox versions of this game besides graphics?

i remember i had the ps2 version back in the day

I want a multiplayer Thing game. The concept deserves its own game, not just mods and indie stuff.

>AVP: Extinction
Literally one of my favourite games.
This needs a sequel also.
There was so much potential with the xenos, the whole process of bulding a hive, infecting hosts, and upgrading your aliens tickled my 'tism in all the right ways.

How would they translate the adaptability of the creature into a game tho? If there's people running round with just claws and tentacles and shit it wouldn't feel like the thing. There'd have to be a shit tonne of different forms or an entirely unique feature where you can create your own mutations, but people would probably start making cock monsters or some shit... not that it isn't hilarious, but the devs would probably get pissy.

It'd be a Telltale game.

> That fucking bit near the end where you go down a spiral ramp against respawning critters and end up in a series of rooms against automated turrets.

Good times

>that level where you have to fight off waves of spiders and then two huge brutes appear out of nowhere and start knocking walls down
>those fucking 'walkers'

>that bit where you go downstairs and an army of spiders come out of nowhere along with 3 of those huge pig-like things

Game had good pacing. Your companions turning felt random in bad ways though.

The mechanics behind it were flawed. Instead of actually getting infected they were set to turn at specific points in the level, shit pissed me off.

So, what's your thing?

das things, mayne

youtube.com/watch?v=3kk58TK0c6I

>that level where you wake up on an operating table stripped of all your gear and there's one of the large Things in the corridor nearby and you have to lure it in the room you're in and lock it up
>that level where the base is self-destructing and you have to leave it on a timer while fighting enemies and turrets

>yfw you hear that growl signaling a big thing is nearby

DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO

I'm thinking Cryostasis but with different characters and maps inserted.

>mfw all of the people eventually turned on me and the blood tests did nothing at all and were worthless

Had an idea yesterday about a multiplayer Thing game that plays kinda like changelling round in SS13, someone is chosen to be the Thing either randomly or semi-randomly based on preferences, Thing does it's thing *wink* and compromises compound, infect survivors while they split doing camp maintenance (some light SS13 infrastructure elements like repairing stuff) There's tension in the air, don't trust nobody even yourself etc. Didn't think it further than that, may be if Thing manages to complete some it's objectives it grows big and then plays like Evolve monster wrecking shit.

>that one bullshit boss with the huge thing in that close quarters fight with all the crates in the way so you had to cheap him out with grenades youve been saving up for an emergency because it does way too much damage and you cant get to it to shoot it without getting hit or getting lucky

I hate that part, it's the only part of the game that feels like a "gear check" so to speak, and maybe that part where the bigger things start showin up in pairs for the first time once you get past the main base area and have to go outside looking around and shit.

>that part where you find brimleys ship he was working on from the movie

This guy?
IIRC you had to lob an incendiary grenade over the crates, and then whilst he's writhing around you fix the electricity box right near him and crank it, then while he's freaking out and writhing in pain you Windows, blast him.

Mack wants the WHAT?!

No I mean the YOU GOTTA BE FFFFFUCKIN KIDDIN' ME...

If that's the bossfight I'm thinking about, the second one, you can actually bring a medic with yourself, if you have one. Then just run out, shoot, back behind crats, heal up. Kind of cheesy, but saves medkits.

THAT'S WHAT HE SAID NOW MOVE!

>there will never be a great horror movie like that ever again

Take Until Dawn, and make a Thing game out of it.

People dying from choices can still happen because in Thing/body snatch, people are expendable. It can even be something like do choice A, but don't see the result, and just like Until Dawn you will switch characters so you won't know the outcome. Might meet that character but not know if its the Thing or not, or if you switch characters and they could make you be the Thing without any real way to tell.

Kek, the one with the boss on the ceiling? that's how I did it.
I assumed it was supposed to happen until my second play through where I ended up alone.
Lucky I saved it just before that bit.

>You murder the fuck out of some dude and puke out his thing clone
>Mc Soldier will remember this

Don't think so

No, in the one with the ceiling boss I fought it alone by running around. IIRC there are 4 bossfights: the first with a thing with dog heads and wall tentacles, the second, with boxes and electricity, the ceiling-thing with two walking things breaking free, and the final boss.

>tfw they ruined all those practical effects in the prequel by plastering cgi all over them

>watch this movie for the first time in my mid 20s
>everything is fine so far, the kennel scene kinda fucked with me but i was fine
>get to this fucking scene
>that FUCKING sound effect when he just goes hollow
>had my first cold sweat nightmare since I was 10 because of that fucking part

Goddamn I still have trouble with that part, the fact he just goes hollow like that waiting to get the docs hands and wrists, it's truly fucked up, seriously, and that sound effect is truly haunting.

Playing as the thing would be DLC

>practical effects will never be used again in any movie that matters

>yfw somewhere out in the universe is a creature like this

Isn't this the RTS game?

I had fun with the marines campaign.

Ah, I get you.
I think, if you have a companion left and know where the boss fight is, you can push them toward the area and they'll spawn in the room with you.
That fucking tree/dog boss, man.
One time the game went absolutely haywire during that bit, the room started flashing bright green like some fucked up haunted house ride at a fairground, bits of the room started to disappear behind the green, and the spider guys would not stop spawning though I killed the thing they come out of. Spooky.

Wow, I never had anything to that effect. Played it on PC.

Yep.
>tfw you have a perfect, symmetrical formation
>tfw you activate pause time as they decimate a horde of xenos so you can zoom in and see all the action
I spent ages doing this shit.

Nice.

That ceiling boss is so hard. How did you not get killed right away? I'm assuming you were playing in hard mode.

I think I just run in circles around it, helped that I had 10 medkits or so with me. I don't remember it being too hard - I think the ceiling thing won't really hit you if you move (?), but there are two walking ones that will break out from containment and you have to deal with those first. It's been like 14 years since I've played it.

Mine's the PS2 version.
God knows how it happened though, can't seem to replicate it.

Giving away this idea of mine:

"The Thing" game would be a "who is the killer" FPS type game, where 8-14 players spawn in a level with different roles each. Everyone is human except one player: he's the thing. The thing's objective is to infect or kill all the players and the player's objective is to kill the thing and it's "minions".

The thing could evolve through the game with 3 different evolution trees: stealth, infection and power. To achieve balance, the players will also receive advantages, like better weapons through the game by completing certain events. The purpose of these event would also split up the humans from grouping, so the thing could strategically 1v1 someone, while being in human shape.

Game would have text chat and voice chat. Voice chat could only be heard in a certain distance and text chat could be global. It's possible to disable the text chat by destroying a communications device.

All the players would have random roles like medic, engineer, assault, commander, etc. And these roles would have their own character model, a bit like in TF2.

To avoid the game being a deathmatch, there would be a penalty system for humans killing humans. This penalty could be a ban for 30mins, mmr drop, max health cap drop, etc..

>inb4 wc3 metastasis

So, Mafia basically. The penalty for killing humans is that there are fewer humans to resist the Thing, by means of votes, or more likely by some sort of raid/execute/murder function. Things could either kill and infect, or push the humans to kill eachother, spreading paranoia.

It's a bit like The Ship

bump

I'm pretty sure this is the only message board in the world where you make a thread about a literally who game like The Thing and it still gets 50 posts.

I have this game and i liked it. didn't love it tho

>the thing
>literally who
wew

These are sad days we live in, friendo

i would love a MP game of this

>everyone spawns
>the alien can decide to attach its self through any of the players through a spectator cam
>the actual player is controlling the guy while at any time the alien can press E and assume direct control.
>throw in meme survival elements

Well thats just a vague idea, maybe im copying something sub consciously. Probably would be ruined by fags in VOIP

As for that actual game, fuck it for turning it to that basic as fuck plot where the military wants to weaponize it. Turned it off when i was blasting humans left right and centre

Great movie, never gets old and the special effects blow me away each time i view it

Nigger, I had a Populus: The Beginning thread not that long ago with 100+ replies. Sorry you have shit taste.

The bit that always gets me is the one where the doggo that got sprayed is engulfed by tentacles. Fantastic stuff.

>How would this game be made today?
all fuseboxes would have an orange blinking tint, every fusebox would show the action button prompt, you'd get textual reminders every 5 seconds to check your teammates if they're the thing and the levels would be even more linear.
Anything I missed?

The main character would be a nigger, and there would be thing apologists offering themselves up for our intolerance of its non-biosymmetrical ways.

Great watch

I wasn't saying that it was bad. It's great that this site is like that

For some reason, the boss does nothing if you run right up to it and crouch beneath it. You can shoot it point blank to wear down its health. It writhes around and can hit you when it's on fire though.

>Would you be able to play as the thing

maybe in the forced multiplayer mode which will die in a month. I imagine it would be basically the same game but with better graphics and infection wouldn't be scripted. That was so fucking stupid they basically killed the potentially coolest mechanic in the game.

I'm just surprised Sup Forums knows so much about this game

I though you were attacking my post, mane
fugg
still tho, it's a relatively popular game

I will always have a never ending amount of love for this movie. Gonna watch it for Halloween, fuck it.

Same

What if the thing was actually a skeleton?

There is. it's called Trouble in Terroist Town.

Left 4 Dead style

I think that would actually be best if they made it today.

pls no

I played a lot of WarCraft III maps which had similar gameplay. What I remembered was Zerg Infestation.
>tfw I was the infested Terran
>tfw picked SCV
>tfw never infected or attacked anyone, just sat in the base building turrets everywhere
>tfw everyone started killing each other out of paranoia
>tfw by the time they found out it was me, I had effectively filled the entire base with my own turrets

For your game, I think that the penalty should be something like being thrown in a prison complex. Somewhere isolated where The Thing could come after you where you're alone.

In Zerg Infestation, people generally cooperated because the base was constantly under attack by waves of Zerg. I think that this would take away from the atmosphere of your game, however, because it would be a clear cut threat. What makes the Thing so terrifying is that vague atmosphere of dread and the unknown.

moon

This sounds like it would be fun as hell

moon came out before the thing movie that screenshot is from. your argument is invalid.
