In RB, default bullets throughout the story playthrough, copy online bullets for the higher difficulty stuff post-game.

All of the melee weapons are actually good. Some just suit certain playstyes better than other. I'm a hardcore short blade user myself but I also enjoy the scythe for its insane reach and multiple hits per swing.
Just stay away from shotguns and you can't go wrong.

I figured that Blast and Sniper guns were the meta considering the amount of bullets posted for them. What makes shotguns so bad?

They just can't compete with the others due to lack of modules and bullet types. You can make them work, but you would always be better off with anything else. Blast/sniper are best in res and it's blast/assault in RB due to assaults op regen.
Blast is just too good with the oracle reserve, lets you keep swinging away and just RB+A every so often to store your OP untill you can just shit death.
