Downloaded UE4 last night because I was high and went full autist thinking "hurr im'a be a game dev"

But after watching loads of tutorials and just dicking about for another hour, I feel like if dedicated, even a porch-monkey can create a AAA game. Like that room full of typing chimps and shakespear.

So why does Sup Forums shit on UE4?

And more importantly, why hasn't Sup Forums created the perfect game?

Sup Forums shits on UE4? I haven't been here in years but I never thought you guys could become more retarded.

>So why does Sup Forums shit on UE4?
The only people who shit on UE4 are poorcucks who can't render anything above pixel art without their toasters melting down.

idk why man. Fags get their dicks hard for FRAWSTBAITE but shit on an engine they can actually use for free.

>open /gamedevgeneral/
>everyone uses GameMaker and makes platformers

Forgot pic in reply.

>I feel like if dedicated, even a porch-monkey can create a AAA game
your feeling is incorrect

If UE4 used c# instead of assisted c++ it would've been much more popular among small indie devs.

Because no1 on Sup Forums can code c++ or c#

Because it's way more work than you think it is

Because you need a team of manpower

>after watching loads of tutorials and just dicking about for another hour, I feel like if dedicated, even a porch-monkey can create a AAA game.

t. ideaguy

he's not wrong.. it just takes a lot of work. Something most of you are probably not capable of.

Building a pretty scene with included assets is not the same as making a game, foo'.

no a single person cannot make an AAA game
it would take like 20 years

>But after watching loads of tutorials and just dicking about for another hour,

>Watching loads of tutorials and just dicking about for another hour

>loads of tutorials and dicking around for another hour

>loads of tutorials

>an hour

wow, so this is the power of drugs?

you can do it as a small team of 4-6 people.. it won't be like Uncharted 4 graphics but you can get AAA graphics.

9

this nigga not only created the most popular game, but even its own engine.

The fuck you on about? have you even been in ue4?

Nine? What do you mean nine?

UE has always been a top tier engine to create maps, it takes more than that to make a game though.

I miss the time when UT2k4 was all the rage, I could shit a map every month or so.

loads of tutorials for hours,

one actual hour of dicking around in ue4

...

Not everyone can create AAA level content. It takes years of studying in any of the given disciplines and for the people who reach that level is often a lifetime endeavour.
Even if a single person was a master of all skills required to make the game, the amount of content he'd need to produce is unfeasible. If you're unfamiliar with the amount of time a given piece of content takes to complete then try to google it and get some creator's comment on it.

if all other manner of logic fails you, consider the amount of indie games released since videogames have become a thing. You are implying that the reason why those games are smaller in scope is because all those thousands of individually working devs were lazy. Doesn't it seem odd to you that at least a couple of hundred haven't worked themselves up to AAA quality through dedication alone? If not them then why not you?

Ultimately, the game engine matters only for the dev as long as the game is optimised.
I messed around in Unity a few months ago and found it really awkward overall, while UE4 feels almost too easy to use.
I think the same as you, it seems so far using UE4 for making a game isn't so hard actually.

Doesn't UE4 have some kind of visual programming tool anyway?

I watched a guy create a building in an hour in blendr and then transferred it to UE4. Was impressed. I suck at making physical art but this feels like cheating.

You can't create a game using only visual programming. Some things would require more complex coding that can't be achieved with blueprints.

Why is it cheating? There's no rule saying a 3D object has to be made in Blender, 3DSMax or even from custom shapes directly in the UE.

it's pretty great but I need some artists

You can
It's just really cumbersome
If you know how to program blueprints will just slow you down

And guess what, you can buy royalty free coding for those rare complex coding.

Salty fag?

Because now I can make beautiful things without being able to through analog means.

I think the confusion is you're implying UE4 invented importing 3D models into games
We've been doing it for decades

>You can't create a game using only visual programming.
Yes you can. Some guy on /agdg/ is doing it with his kuhrazy skatepark combat game.

Because of
-optimization
-voice acting
-different languages
-assets

Even if you say you only make a game in English without any voice acting, your 3d game will still be shit (or never finished alone).

The asset creation takes so much time.

And even if you bought all your assets (or stole them), the optimization will kill you.

Look for example at the game Ark on steam. It looks great but runs like shit. For me this game is unplayable. And this is the reason why most big companies design their own engine, because in the long run it is cheaper, because optimizing your self crated engine is much much much easier and faster.

>because optimizing your self crated engine is much much much easier
SE, luminous
Overkill, diesel
Bethesda, creation
>and faster
Kojima, FOX

and all of these studios have large teams and budgets

not as large as muh dick
