Arguably the only good Knuckles/Rouge level in the game, because it takes full advantage of his myriad skills and movement.
Nah, plenty of the other knuckles levels were good. Rouge's were mostly bad though

I also liked Meteor Herd but that was mostly just because of how chill it was. I think that stage took me like twenty fucking minutes first time I played it because I got so lost.

I dunno I kind of don't like SA2 in general though. The sonic stages felt like they lost some of the charm SA1 had, the tails stages were even worse than the gamma ones (aside from maybe the first eggman one, that was okay) and the knuckles stages were just flat out worse than in SA1 because of some of the changes they made.

A lot of other people have given me shit for rating final rush as meh rather then amazing, but I don't see what other people see in it
Any sort of mission where there are tons of open pits tends not to work well because the rail/antigrav physics are so fucky, half the time you just die and it's not even your fault.
Lots of people don't like SA2 as a whole, as much as they think they do. When people say "Sonic Adventure 2 was good," they're really saying "the Sonic/Shadow stages in Sonic Adventure 2 was good." The Tails/Eggman and Knuckles/Rouge stages bring the game down hard. Literally only 1/3 of the game was good.
On top of that, SA2 was the debut of Shadow and Rouge, which made it okay to make edgy Sonic OCs and Sonic OCs with notable sex appeal. Make of that what you will.

Honestly I don't think it's even that. I think they just have fond memories of the chao garden, maybe the stupid story that they took seriously as kids, or the good soundtrack and everything else just kinda blurs.
SA1 is a janky as fuck mess, and on an objective scale not very good at all. But, personally speaking anyway, I think it has a lot of heart to it. It feels like they really tried to make something there and it kinda rubbed off on me. I love that game a lot even though it's not very good. SA2 is missing that spark.
SA1 and SA2 tried to introduce massive sweeping narrative to the Sonic series. Whether or not it succeeded depends on how much you took it seriously.

That's true. I probably did enjoy SA1 more at least partially because I never got the feeling the whole narrative was trying too hard in comparison.
Granted Heroes scaled back hard in that respect but I still think it's the worst sonic game I've ever played for a bunch of other reasons so that's not the only problem with SA2.
When Sonic and company found their voice, they tried to give Sonic some big-boy stories to match.

I'm still waiting for the Rouge the Bat spinoff game where you get to play out her day job as a government agent and night escapades as a cat burglar and part-time casino owner. You could have stealth, AC-style movement and traversal with flight, and all kinds of superspy shenanigans.

Kneckels and Eggman's stages were actually bretty good. The levels of Shadow, Rouge and Tails are clearly inferior versions of their counterparts, because they were added later in development.
I really wish Segacucks didn't react to the outcries about the exclusion of Tails. Or at the very least they added him with SA1 Gameplay instead of adding 2 more playable characters.
I agree on the tails/eggman levels but the Knuckles and Rouge levels were fun

I've been slowly working my way through SA2, because Aoi Yuuki never shut ups about the game.
My only "serious" experience with Sanic are the Genesis era titles, which I played to death. Then a lot of other games which I never finished.
Knuckles stages are my favorites by far.
I can see that the team had a lot of ideas and there are plenty of small details that really show the passion behind, even if the execution or level of polish just isn't there most of the time.
Kind of a shame they never revisited some of these concepts, this game could have really used a direct sequel. Or maybe even just remake it.
