Alright Sup Forums, I need advise.
I've been seriously thinking about getting back into Nintendo, but the only games I can come up with are Pokemon, Castlevania and Zelda. That said, I've been wondering whether the said series are let alone worth enough to get a Nintendo or should I pass?

I've been thinking about buying myself a 2DS, I don't give a fuck about 3D.

Also, it's a spoopy thread

Zelda ALBW and Tri Force Heroes alone made me glad that I got a 3DS. I don't know if online is still alive for Tri Force Heroes though. The 3DS version of OoT is great as well if you want to replay it. (I haven't tried MM 3DS yet, so I can't comment on it).

The 3DS Castlevania game is bad, imo, but a budy of mine loves it. The three available DS Castlevanias are great though, if you haven't played them yet.

Does Zelda require 3DS, or will 2DS do?

ALBW has a nice 3D effect, but I played it with the effect off 95% of the time. My buddy has a New 3DS XL and plays with the 3D effect on. I only have an old model, so I usually only use it for a couple of minutes. The only game that I've played where the 3D effect helped you figuring out stuff faster was Mario 3D Land. And even then, you could just manually turn the camera for a second instead of relying on the 3d effect.

If you think you might like the 3D effect, invest in a New 3DS (XL). If you don't plan on usuing it, an old model or a 2DS will do.

2DS is good and cheap but keep the size in mind; it's a horrible handheld for your pocket. The 3DS and Vita are already bulky as fuck but the 2DS is pretty much impossible.

I'm pleased to hear the 3D isn't as prominent as Nintendo makes it to be.

Poland isn't a safe country to keep expensive stuff, let alone a console, in your pocket. It's for home usage. Nevertheless, do you find it uncomfortable or just hard to transport?

when is this pocket thing going to end? unless you're 12 why would you keep a console in your pocket.

MONSTER FUCKING HUNTER
Best game of the hanheld 10/10

Anyone can redpill me on modern Pokemon? I loved Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - will neo make me rage or is it better?

NAGASAKI WHERE IS THE MUSIC YOU FAGGOT REEEEEE

The New 3DS is able to play SNES games, which gives it access to many classic Nintendo games and I'd argue that it has a better form factor too. However, it is a lot more expensive than a 2DS and seeing as the 3DS will probably be made obsolete by the Switch next year, it's probably not worth spending too much money on it.

I would usually highly recommend Kid Icarus Uprising, although I'd imagine that it's very uncomfortable on a 2DS.

As for Zelda games, I'd recommend Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D and A Link Between Worlds. Tri-Force Heroes was fun, although I don't think the online is as alive as it needs to be for the game to be enjoyable.

X/Y are decent Pokemon games, although I wouldn't say they're ground-breaking. I enjoyed Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire a lot more, although I spent a significant portion of my childhood playing Pokemon Sapphire so I'm a bit blinded by nostalgia. Sun/Moon are coming out later this year, although obviously I can't form a valid opinion on a game I haven't played yet.

The latest Castlevania games are pretty shit, don't bother playing them.

The Fire Emblem games are also pretty good, although the 3DS games have a big emphasis on waifufaggotry (although the gameplay is still enjoyable if you like strategy games like that).

The 3DS also has a port of Super Smash Bros which is pretty enjoyable for a handheld fighting game.

The alternative to buying a 3DS would be to buy a second-hand Wii and softmod it so you can play games off an external hard drive. Or you can just emulate all the games you missed out on. All the handhelds (apart from the 3DS) and all the home consoles up to the N64 can be emulated on pretty much any PC made within the last 5 years. If you want to play Gamecube and Wii games, you'll need a fairly powerful PC.

There is more handholding and the games are slightly easier, although Pokemon has never exactly been a hard series. The newer games do add a lot of conveniences that you really do miss when you go back to play the older games though.

Honestly, for all the shit it gets, OR/AS are better than Ruby/Sapphire. I'd say they are on par with Emerald, Emerald has the Battle Frontier, gym leader rematches and overall better teams for trainers (which makes up for some of the features that OR/AS has over it).

Hack it

I will say a 2DS is shockingly comfortable to hold and use. I have a new 3DS now and while I am pleasantly surprised with the 3D its not as comfortable. I will say that the clamshell design is a godsend though. My 2DS felt vulnerable without a case and dust got into the screen over time.

You need Monster Hunter in your life buddy

This and get a New3DS

Will 2DS handle it?

>Castlevania
Irrelevant since Rondo of Blood. 20 years late.

3DS is pretty much the last bastion of good gaming so yes user, get one.

Got a 3ds a month ago. First venture into Nintendo in 6 years

Loving dq7. Fe awakening was pretty damn good but couldn't play fates. Luigi's mansion and dk returns is a must play. Sm3d land is a fun play but nothing mins blowing.

Also, gotta try the Phoenix and Layton games

which one?

This is also relevant to me, almost bought one a couple of days ago, figured I should do a cool down and see if I still want it in a week. Been gaming on PC for the past 5 years, but want something different.

2DS is very comfortable in the palm of your hands. I owned it for a while.

If you want some good games that aren't often mentioned, try out Devil Survivor Overclocked, Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker, Senran Kagura 2, Tales of the Abyss, Virtues Last Reward (you might want to play 999 before it though).

But I agree with games like a Link Between Worlds and Pokemon X and Y. They're all solid.

I have one. Its ok but th screens get dirty very easily
>it's a horrible handheld for your pocket.
Who the fuck does this?
Monster Hunter is boring as fuck for me

From all the overviews the screen looked much better than the 3DS'. Can confirm?

>Can confirm?
yes

Personally my 3DS is an Atlus machine. I've spent more time in SMT and EO than Nintendo games.
