Does anyone still play FTL? I recently came back to it and I almost forgot how good it is.

Yep. I have a run going right now as Slug C with 3 chain lasers.
I recently picked it up.
Now tell me, is this game hard or am I not good? Even playing in normal was kinda hard, though it was my first time, but I still don't think it should have gone like that. Even the achievements for the first ship are hard to obtain.
It's pretty hard. And if you have not played it much then you are probably not good yet, either.
The game is hard but you can improve and win 75% of the time on normal.
It's hard, but it gets easier when you play. You learn what's useless and what's not, as well as how to use shit properly depending on what you have. First ship is actually one of the best in the game.
Yeah man, been playing this a lot recently and currently need just one more ship win on Hard to clear the whole game on Hard.
Last ship is the Engi A and I have a feeling the reliance on the Combat Drone is going to piss me off, but it should be smooth sailing if/when I get a defense drone.
There's a lot of tricks you'll have to pick up. You'll get the hang of the game if you keep at it. Shit like recognizing potential crew-killing events and avoiding the risk entirely when every man counts.
I'd say it's more than 75% on normal.
Good to know.
Read up on some beginner's guides as well, hope that's not cheating.
Yes. I love how many things the game has revealed about myself. Like what options I choose, my ethics, conflict avoidance and crew security at expense of loot. You really feel like the commander, in charge of and responsible for your crew's lives. Makes you take some hard, ambiguous decisions, I love it.
around 250 hours, still play every now and then.
Just got the Captain's Edition mod, it really mixes things up and freshens the challenge. I can see myself putting in another 250 hours over time.
That achievement for killing a burning enemy with the rock ship can suck my balls, Im pretty sure its the hardest achievement.
Oh yeah it is hard at first. Play some rounds on easy and get familiar with it and what potential encounters can either give you shit or kill crew.
It can be a pain in the ass if you only have the Rock A, yeah.
Since enemies run away from burning rooms when their health is low, try to find a ship with a rock crewman in there. They won't retreat unless they have a medbay. If they have a medbay, just destroy it with lasers so the rockman will stand and fight.
Even though rocks don't take damage in fires, you'll still get the achievement for killing them in one.
>a game based around memorizing "random" encounters
It's shit
There's an achievement for destroying 15 rock ships in one run. No crewkilling them either.
If you don't get at least 2 rock sectors in one run, then fuck yourself. It's bullshit.
Pirate ships that are stolen rock vessels count, but those are still uncommon as fuck since a pirate encounter could be any species' vessel.
Just got this game a couple days ago. i unlocked the zoltan cruiser this morning. it has turned the game into easy mode
why would you do that though
Anyone know of any really good mods for FTL?
I've beaten the vanilla game with every ship on hard and I tried out infinite space mod but my ships are just so overpowered that even the boss ships they throw at you every sector are a joke. I've tried captains edition but I think it's an unbalanced, poorly designed mod.
I went back to it and I almost forgot how shit it is, once you get to the point you can beat Normal no sweat and move onto Hard you realize how shallow and flawed the game is.
You have to progress through 9 maps through a playthrough. The order of the string of maps is procedural. The layout of each map is procedural. What encounter you get on each star is procedural. Whether any given shot (aside from beams) hits or not is random. Other random/procedural elements includes scrap collection, shop inventory, and some events' choices.
Did you catch all of that RNG? On hard mode you are luck's bitch and she is one saucy dominatrix. The kind that intentionally forgets the safe word.
But the thing is the combat is so damn simple. You usually have only have a handful of options to bypass shields (and if you can't, you lose). Once you do you usually have one optimal method of attack. Same if you get boarded. You just keep doing the correct choice and pray the game accepts it. It's not like X-Com where you have lots of options and when you die you feel like you could have done a myriad of other options (leading to a healthy desire to replay). When you make the right choice the game WILL sometimes just say no and have your crew killed.
It's shitty.
Recently wiped my profile and started over on hard, after unlocking everything on normal.
Scrap is a lot tighter. I'm finding you really can't spend ahead, if you're gonna drop 50+ scrap on something it's gotta help your ass immediately, or else you're not making it through the next sector.
AI seems a little better, too, as far as where they're aiming.
>AI seems a little better, too, as far as where they're aiming.
Also, for early sectors when they're low on crew, they prioritize manning the engines.
On easy/normal, they man piloting>shields>weapons>engines.
On hard, they man piloting>engines>weapons>shields.
That means +5% dodge.
You oughta have the same priorities unless you jump into an asteroid shield, where manning shields could help you get shields back online quick enough before an asteroid sneaks in.
starting a new game. wanna help Sup Forums?
Roll for a few times. Realize how fucking repetitive the game is and the combat is awful. Forever stuck at 109 minutes on Steam record, should have refunded.
Slug sectors, best sectors.
crew names: Dota/League/Hon
ship name: SS FAGGOT
get bent sluggy
not so tough now huh
not to mention the beyond trash tier ships like engi b and stealth b or c that need the luck of gods and the stars aligning to even have a chance at reaching the later sectors
Slug, Rock, and Lanius sectors are the worst late game.
Mantis are so fucking tame in comparison.
Better lube up your asshole for the final boss
It's not that you're not good it's that you're not playing the Zoltan A ship
best ships?
Crystal B hands down.
How am I supposed to play the Crystal B with my hands down? Does the game play itself and I have nothing to do?
...
kestrel b is pretty good
Engi B
