why would it take so long to add maybe 2 extra hours to the game? why wasn't it released with it? Why the fuck should I even care when the original still looks and plays fine?

Because nobody liked the Xen levels and they're basically completely changing everything.

...

>xen sucks meme
What was so bad about it?

First person platforming, none of the exciting combat, lame boss fights

it was short

Xen was fine aside from Interloper and that one part where you have to platform on the manta ray things

The fact that they've changed so much already is partly why I don't like the remake. For me it seems like this is really only aimed at people who aren't able to deal with the 2001 graphics of the original Half-Life to actually play it.

Way to prove my point you dumb memers

>2001
>Half Life 1

It came out in 1998 retard.

>b-but Blue Shift

No.

>Changing everything

Those arrogant fucks. Guess I'm still not buying.

Why did it take so long to finish the last four levels of the game?

Nothing, Xen was great. People who hate platforming in FPS are just terrible, especially in a game like HL where it's rather easy.

Maybe by reading the OP you will find out you stupid illiterate.

How can anyone, unironically, give a fuck about the Half Life series anymore?

After seeing what Valve has become how can ANYONE give a fuck about it?

Xen demo levels were leaked a few days ago in a bug fix update, probably intentionally to hype this announcement

Xen was the second most interesting part of the game, right after the beginning (before you start gunning down the military).
Even though Black Mesa isn't that good, I'm still looking forward to this.

I stopped playing Half Life 1 a bit after the giant monster thing. I beat Black Mesa. Is there any reason to continue HL1? Also are they going to remaster Blue Shift and Opposing Force or should I play the original of those?

Cool that they're doing something alternative and expanded, but I really would have liked a less changed Xen part and having it out the door a year+ ago.

It's like the alien part of Crysis - everyone hates on it for some reason, but it's short and mixes up the gameplay, adding spice to the experience.

Counting the years of the mod before retail, we have waited like 5 years for them to add the ending to the game. This new Xen had better be fucking amazing 11/9 noscope370 for it to be worth the wait

In my opinion, Opposing Force is the only unconditionally good game in the franchise.

Because it was a 6DOF shooter crossed with walking simulator (pardon my buzzwords), and people liked it only because it was quite novel and good-looking at the time of its release.

It's a great home to the original game, the original half life is still there and fun to play, but I can't do it anymore since I've played it for over a decade and a half. Black Mesa makes it fresh again and half the fun is just seeing all the alterations they've made.

That tells you something about the people on here that claim to be oldfags

It was a time of magic and joy, a time when vidya was good, before the internet became popular

It was clearly a last minute hackjob. Just like with System Shock 2 and the SHODAN final level.

>nobody liked the Xen levels
I liked them

Nothing. Numales can't handle any FPS with verticality and retard tier platforming.

I love Zen.
The level design was shite, but the change of gameplay and atmosphere more than made up for it.

half life is the most overrated series in the history of gaming

That's not how you spell Mass Effect/Street Fighter/Fallout/Elder Scrolls

>"holy moly it got on steam?"
