I just explained it. Its not a meaningless word, you can pretend otherwise all you want but it changes nothing.

Over-designing is when you add on extra parts to something that otherwise might not need them. Modern pokemon designers have to do it because they release so many pokemon each gen they have to make the new pokemon stand out from the old ones. So they cant just make an owl anymore with one or two different features, they have to design an owl with a massive collection of smaller parts just to make it stand out.

Its really not the designers fault at all, some executive had the bright idea that each new gen needed massive numbers of new pokemon and didnt think of the consequences.

And just to clarify, Gen 1 also has over-designed pokemon. Pic not related however, Noctowl is a good example of a pokemon that is minimalistic and a good comparison for the new grass starter.

Im not saying all gen 1 is unique and special and all new gens are overdesigned, but those starters sure as hell are, as as more modern pokemon than older ones.

Grass starter is one of the best starters in a long time. However, too many of my friends are picking it, so I'm getting the cat but I'm not going to evolve it pass the second stage because I'm no barafag furry.

That's because most Johto pokemon were meant to be in Gen I but they ran out of cartridge space.

That simply isnt true because the level of detail is still well below what it could be and the old pokemon didnt get updated with new details.

Very nice and I can't believe it was as close as it was for me picking any of them. They all have good typing, their unique moves are amazing and I honestly believe that they will all be viable on the competitive scene.
