Would you believe me if told you half a decade ago the most iconic horror figure of the 2010's would come from an indie game?

Would you believe me if told you half a decade ago the most iconic horror figure of the 2010's would come from a sketch show?
>iconic horror figure
maybe pick something from an actual horror game grown ups play, i dunno
When did Slender come out?
the david s pumpkin murders of 2016 was the mostly grisly halloween america had ever known
Given that indie revived the horror game genre in 2010, I probably would.
hate to break it to you OP but outside of your little yiffy hugbox nobody really gives a shit about fnaf
To be honest, he's better than Slenderman.
>le anonymous legion spoopy man in a suit
>already ripped off marble hornets
>invoking underage girls to murder their friends in his name
>tfw I have never played friday night at freddys and i don't really know what it's about
2012
This is wrong because when I went to get costumes for my kids the store had an entire section dedicated just to fnaf
And he was around before that game was even a thought.
>outside of those who are interested in thing, no one is interested thing
well no fucking shit mate
Gotta have that merch.
>nothing made for kids can become iconic
May I present every iconic figure ever made?
Huh, completely forgot Slender was a thing. He's pretty close, I'll admit, but Freddy's probably more well known.
But since the OP just said indie, I guess it still counts.
>Would you believe me if told you half a decade ago the most iconic horror figure of the 2010's would come from an indie game?
Maybe?
I like how FNAF's revived "antagonist-based" horror.
I mean, we had Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhes in the 80's and 90's but the 2000's have really struggled to find a horror mascot of their own. FNAF feels closer to A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th than it does Slender or the numerous zombie "survival" games.
youre a 16 year old working the night shift at a chuck e cheese but all the robot dancers are haunted and trying to kill you
then the creator realized that he created the best-selling indie game of 2014 but had no idea what to do next, so he hit some LSD and came up with the most autistic and convoluted storyline in indie gaming. the game theory guy made over a dozen videos about the "deep lore" and got 2 million extra subscribers out of it.
that's literally the entire series
I have no problems with that, I totally support Scott and his money scheme, its really inspiring.
I work in elementary schools all over the country installing tech equipment. Literally 6 year olds talking about this crap, minecraft, and shooting people/zombies in whatever fps game they have their hands on.
I'm installing a phone the other day and I shit you not some little kid was going off about how you have to kidnap some girl and then shoot everyone in the room in the face.
Seriously what happened to Final Fantasy, Mario, and Sonic? These kids are just knee deep in rated M games.
>implying
Nigga, FNAF is everywhere. Gamestop is filled to the brim with Freddy merch, costumes stores always have Freddy costumes, even regular stores have FNAF-related kids shirts and backpacks. Youtube videos even from Sister Location regularly get millions of views. Not to mention it has its own book, upcoming movie, and practically invented its own genre with all the countless games that tried to emulate it.
Kids still care plenty about those, but even if we're talking about less M-rated stuff kids like, there's still things like Angry Birds and Minecraft.
Actually saw a FNaF t-shirt at Target the other day. In the little kids graphic tees aisle.
I've seen grown ass men and women wear FNAF shirts
I remember the first year where the majority of those shirts were bootleg shit.
>Played the first two Freddy games, think they're perfectly acceptable jumpscare games that are sold at an inexpensive price and have a fairly interesting setting and "Story"
>Somehow feel too jewish to spend $12 on Steam to pick up 3, 4, and Sister Location in the "Bundle"
Not sure why this is. I like them fine and think they're decent value for the money but I'm balking at that.
lolkek
Maybe you just got burnt out/fear you might burn out?If you played 1 and 2 back to back then they would start feeling samey after a while.
Must be a shit ton of furries then it needed official merch.
Nigga I literally just saw children at my door dressed as Freddy
