Doom 2.
Its better than your fave game.
Did you like the new Doom game?
Would you happen to have a key for Cave Story? I have 3 keys to offer for it you might be interested in
Here you go (good lord)

Wow, why is this so pricey on Steam if it's free?
its okay
Because if you put a price tag on something, people will pay for it. Even though the Plus version is worse than the original (any this is coming from someone who played Plus like three times before playing the original). And if you just wanted to support Pixel then you'd buy Kero Blaster.
LISA: The Painful RPG. It's a perfect balance of great humor and total dread, and it can be genuinely unsettling. The characters are perfect, and the soundtrack is easily the greatest OST of any game.
On the other hand, I fucking loathe The Joyful. Buddy is just given free reign. Whereas Brad's choices actually effect him (You'd have things stolen or party members kidnapped/killed if you weren't careful, if you sacrificed your limbs you'd be crippled in combat, etc.), Buddy is simply allowed to do whatever she wants. Despite the fact that she couldn't be any older than eighteen, has very little (if any) combat training (she only really had experience killing men Brad immobilized first), and has to fight massive horny dudes who haven't seen a single woman in years, who have nothing better to do than to work out, or who are armed with guns, or who are fucking superhuman mutants who could normally kill party members in a single move, she has absolutely no trouble throughout the entire game. There's no punishment for not using Joy, as, once again, Buddy has the fucking antidote handed to her on a silver platter. The one time Buddy has to make a serious decision, the outcome doesn't matter, as if you choose to sacrifice yourself, a massive mutant instantly kills your attacker. Then there's the final boss; the guy who fucking killed off the entire world, and he's apparently too ashamed to fight you. A guy who's literally doomed mankind, and he can't bring himself to fight a single girl. Instead, it's just a fucking bullet sponge cutscene fight where you fight a hallucination, who also doesn't do anything. Then, you kill the guy who fucking doomed the world, and he just kinda hands you the antidote and dies, nothing else to it. This is followed by another fight with a hallucination that doesn't do anything. Then you kill another mutant who is another cake walk.
This kinda got out of hand, but Joyful is such a shameful sequel to Painful. It deserved so much more.
Nier
I spent most of my life playing multiplayer vidya because I didn't understand english as a kid and thus was locked out of most SP games with complexity/characters/stories
I played a lot since then, but none of them grabbed me by the feels and fucked me as hard as Nier did, been in love with it since.
Also super fucking comfy.
Super Mario 64
And I'm very grateful I can enjoy the various mods too
You can't look at Joyful as a sequel. It's more or less a DLC epilogue that should've never been made to stand on its own. If it was tacked onto the end of Painful and picked up right after the credits it would've been fine.
Spelunky hd
Bloodborne. Used to be original Zelda cause of nostalgia mostly (also loved the combat, open/cryptic nature of the world and the second quest). Bloodborne has become by far my favorite game to play though, especially since TOH. I love everything about it, the combat, the level design, the art, the music, the lore, the trick weapons. I was always a fan of the Souls games but the way the gameplay of BB feels just appeals to me much more.
Shadow of the Colossus
...
My favorite has to blood. As far as build games go, I consider it to be the greatest and most viscerally satisfying. Compounded by the fact that it's hard as hell too.
Actually if anyone wants to pick it up it's 1.69 burgerdollars on steam right now
For me, it's Okami. I bought all versions of it and frequently play through the game. It's still very flawed both in terms of pacing and combat and those awful blockheads that stopped me from wanting to get all beads, but it's got amazing charm. The fact that Clover died is abysmal.
Is Kero Blaster any good?
>A enjoyable video game thread on Sup Forums
>It dies
Pikmin 2 for me. It was the first game I had been truly hyped to get months in advance. Loved it entirely. I had more fun just being in the world with my Pikmin than anything else.
>Feed nectar to them in even groups
>Greedy pikmin takes a whole blob for himself
>Gets a time out at camp for the rest of the day while everyone goes exploring
I miss when games were fun for no reason
It's amazing.
I want something like TwitchPlaysAnimalCrossing
I guess I'll be the first to say Ghost Trick ITT then.
I don't think I have to say anything more to justify my point. It's fucking Ghost Trick, the most perfect game that ever was.
I'm interested, if it's not too late.
Never mind I missread it.
im stuck on the final battle part where you have to fight misery, doctor, doctor-evolved, and then doctor-core with misery and sue together, all without a single checkpoint inbetween them. And i only have one life potion
that said, last few years i only played modern casual shit with easy pushover "le epic fight" bosses, like dark souls, so im actually happy to have some actual challenge
but it is a sequel
if they didn't want it judged alone they shouldn't have released it alone
That doesn't make sense.
This.
I fell in love with the world and characters. Just thinking about them is uplifting.
It's this, it'll always and forever be this
To me, a favorite game has to be one that I can play over and over again and not get tired of.
And I fucking love this game.
I love it so goddamn much.
It's too much goddamn fun.
No matter how many times I play it, it never gets old.
Cave Story+ has updated graphics and music, an official translation, a new difficulty and bonus content.
But none of it is as good as the original so really, the only reason to actually buy any of the CS ports is to support Pixel tangentially.
The original freeware version is still the classic and it's basically perfect.
My favorite game is still The World Ends With You.
It's the same as yours, good taste man
Why do you even ask? You can play the demos (Pink hour and pink heaven) and discover it for yourself
Did not except a threesome ending.
Thinking of getting for the dreamcast, thanks for the recommendation
I like to hear people's opinions and generate discussion.
The lack of love triangle angst between the three protagonists is one of the many reasons why it's so great.
Half-Life.
Those demos are god tier
>Not AC New leaf
>not the final part
>oh god
>But none of it is as good as the original
Honestly everything on the right side of this picture looks better, that "none of it is as good as the original" seems like a meme.
This, maximum comfy
Probably La-Mulana
>chill puzzles
>god-tier dungeon design
>challenging boss battles
>tons of secrets
I enjoy how it actually feels like you are a shitty human fighting against fucking powerful eldritch deities.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I like the setting, the aesthetic, the gameplay, the stories that can be told in said game, and the fact that I can expand upon all of it with a number of mods. I've sunk over 1,444 hours into said game over the course of two, almost three years and I'll probably continue sink many more into it. It's my go-to game for having fun and enjoying myself.
Not everyone has an eye for art so just take our word for it. Same goes for the music. Then there's the whole "sloppily speeding the entire game up so it would run at 60fps", but there's no smart way of defending that. You might just have to accept you have the wrong impression about the port.
It's more detailed, but I can't really say that it's better.
There's just something about it, it doesn't really fit. To me, who played the original and adored it, it kind of feels like heresy.
A lot of the original sprite art is actually very detailed, to the point that CS+ didn't even have to change things like Balfrog or the Core or anything.
But there's like, this purpose in the low-bit rendering of character sprites that contrasts the detailed environments and bosses. I dunno, there's just no way I can be comfortable with a Quote that has a discernible face.
The OST is basically objectively worse in every possible way.
Original:
youtube.com
Remastered:
youtube.com
That's how far I got on Hard Mode
>The OST is basically objectively worse in every possible way.
It's easy to just say that and know it and not think twice but I could definitely see a lot of people listening to the remastered track and thinking it's better. Cause it doesn't sound like blip bloops. Same with the sprites. They're twice the res so they're twice as good. This is just how people think. These same people are the reason why Cave Story has been mostly forgotten in the public eye and why it never makes those big publications' top 100 lists. They just see it as some blocky sprites, or just some chip tune. They see the game as just jumping and shooting. They don't appreciate the nuance or the cohesion all these element shave. How everything fits just-- right.
Name one fucking flaw.
I like this user
There are non
CRAZY BUS
Cave Story has a magnitude more critical acclaim than that my user.
I first played and completed this when I was 10 and it was the first time I'd ever come across a video game that had the storytelling potential to physically rouse emotion in me.
Regardless of all the memes and jokes n' shit, the character development in FFX was absolutely stunning, and imo FFX has the most beautiful soundtrack of all the Final Fantasy games.
Everybody likes to laugh about how Tidus was a garbage character, but actually more characters like Tidus is exactly what the Final Fantasy franchise is lacking. Dumb, goofy, anti-snowflake, weird looking lunatics that were not and never designed to be perfect. A completely normal character who's only speciality is that he was a sportsman. A normal guy. The problem with the franchise at the moment is that virtually every single character they're churning out is some brooding, physically-perfect, Mary-Sue faggot/faggotess WITH A DARK, HIDDEN PAST AND A CAUSE FOR WHICH THEY MUST FIGHT AGAINST ALL ODDS, and I'm not exactly hopeful that FFXV is going to deviate from this.
Morrowind.
You get over the shitty combat with exploits or simply reading how it works and the game goes from absolute shit to absolutely amazing.
This is probably my favorite ds game as well.
>derpy fat bimbo
>implying that isn't my fetish
Also, the hi res weapon sprites are actually really old, dating back to the unreleased Cave Story beta builds.
System Shock. It is, in my opinion, a perfect game. It has an awesome story, great voice acting, a good blend of FPS and adventure, and has incredible graphics and an amazing soumdtrack to boot. Also, all the weapons are incredibly fun to use, especially the riot shotgun for launching shit around and breaking the engine.
bloodborne is the most polished and atmospheric game ever made.
with the exceptions of tedious chalice dungeons, it is in my opinion, as close to a perfect game as we can achieve in this day and age.
you hype for the remake?
Fallout (1)
I like:
the story and world
the turn based system and RPG mechanics
the graphics and sounds
It just all does it for me
Whilst I like 2, I think it moved too far away form the Mad Max theme of civilization being fucked
For some reason Cave Story never got a Metacritic page.
Fallout New Vegas, it has some of the things I enjoy from infinity engine RPGs and some of the things I enjoy from first person games, as well as a great world/characters with a fanbase that still argues about the political philosophy of the different routes to this day
for the record, I tried Fallout 1 & 2 and was too much of a casual pleb to get into them, gameplay just didn't do it for me
Ghost Trick. It's just a great story with fantastic everything else backing it up
...
>2011 is alway here in this game
You DID get King on your title screen, right user?
I'm not playing the game ever again, so why would I?
...
...
Vagrant story, after all these years. Wonderful setting, story, art and godtier soundtrack. I still cant believe they didnt make sequel.
>sequel
Why would you want people to kill your favorite game? Sequels are cancer.
Mine is also Cave Story. It's the only game that I've played through 5+ times just casually.
Close runners up would be Dark Souls and Terraria.
Fuck I love this game so much
Just a chance to revisit the world I love again. Different protagonist, story - ok. But seriously, fuck this thread, now I'm gonna reinstall it and waate another 100 hours of my life on it
Meant for:
What if my favorite game is Doom 1?
It would be hard to do anything creatively new with the LISA IP. Honestly, a genuine full length sequel starring Rando would have been the best.
Then again, he tried to add this whole "Rando isn't actually dead guys!" surprise into the second game when it was blatantly obvious that he survived Brads attack in the first game.
Real good, great level design and great weapons. I's linear and fairly short but after beating normal you ulock "hard", which drastically changes levels, bosses, and adds a whole new final stage and multistage boss that are a ton of fun.
>There are people on Sup Forums that came here after the Cave Story hype
Shit was popular as fuck on Sup Forums years back. The free version has kinda janky controller support but it has drastically better music and the low detail sprites work completely fine.
I'm playing Kero Blaster right now, it's a fucking blast hhue
Honestly should've checked this when it come out, being a big Cave Story fan and all.
There's an improved version released for the Gamecube.
Cave Story rates really high for me too, I remember instantly replaying it after realizing there was a good ending you can get.
Also Resident Evil 4 for me. For years I never really thought of it, then I remembered beating the game a solid 3 times and playing through Mercenaries a fucking ton of hours. After getting the HD steam version it really reaffirmed my love for the game. Everything just feels so goddamn right. Boss fights are great, shooting feels fantastic, pacing is perfect, the dialog is corny in the best way possible, shit's just so goddamn good. Enemy variety being a bit stagnate is really its only downside to me honestly.
I've never played Cave Story or Earthbound or the Mother series and generally like RPGs.
Am I missing out?
Cave Story is not an RPG. It's a platformer with some metroidvania elements.
Cave Story is not an RPG friend, it's a shooter/platformer.
I've only played Mother 2 so I can't speak for the whole series but if you have the patience for SNES era RPGs go for it, it's feels really fresh even for today's games.
Cave Story is not a metroidvania don't think of it like one. It's like Mega Man if Mega Man let you revisit levels and had a few side quests.
That's why I didn't call it a metroidvania.
>I remember instantly replaying it after realizing there was a good ending you can get.
There are better endings, but there's no good ending.
>10/10 music
>10/10 world
>10/10 gameplay
>11/10 nostalgia
This game is literally the best shit ever.
This. I started playing it again yesterday after not having played it for about a year. It sucked me in like never before.
Both 1 and 2.
You may prefer some other game but there is absolutely no denial that this game has one of the best combat mechanics in existence. Which is only half of the story. Not only does it play perfectly but it is also very cinematic in the RIGHT kind of way. As in "cinematography" that works to enhance gameplay, not replace it. It takes every bit of the attitude that made DMC popular and multiplies it tenfold.
I've finished both of these games, like, 12 fucking times and each time I start anew the intro cutscenes/action always make me stare into the screen and smile like a drooling retard.
No other game has ever reliably succeeded at pumping my brain with endorphins as this one.
It even managed to attach itself to my dick. I was one of those people who would make fun of Bayo's proportions and Sarah Pallin looks, that is until I played the game. Halfway trough my first playtrough I found out that it managed to completely rewire my dick towards it trough the sheer quality of it's gameplay and craziness of it's cutscenes.
Cave Story is fuckin great once you get used to the controls. Fun bosses, fun levels, great music, interesting and really unique story with some good heart string tugging moments, solid difficulty curve.
I need to pick up a WiiU one day to play these. Fuckin "character action" is one of my favorite genres of games and I've yet to play this or Ninja Gaiden.
The true-speaker. Him whom speaketh facts. Fuck that game is legit.
The "good" ending is pretty good overall. You can't save everyone but the Mimigami's leave in peace in their floating island and the scientists escape along with you and Curly Brace. It's way better than the normal end of "the entire island is fucked"
>You can't save everyone
You fail to save the only innocent on the whole island. There isn't a good ending.
