Don't. It's a frustrating game with no end goal.
reminder youtube.com
Don't play alone and kill everyone you see because they will kill you if you don't. Don't try to formulate friendships because you will be stabbed in the back.
So tell us did this game end your rasist tendencies and make you a better person?
>be nigger
>run around naked howling like a monkey and chucking spears at people
>get gunned down by white people with machine guns
This game is so realistic! I love it!
>extracredits
>every server resets every 2 seconds so solo players don't have a chance unless they play nonstop
What's the point
i have like 600 hours in new rust and had 500 in legacy, here goes
>get a decent pair of headphones, noise (especially footsteps) is incredibly important
>find your server on playrust.io
>buildings work by placing twig with a building plan, then using a hammer to upgrade into wood, stone, metal, or armored
>wood structures and doors can be burned with flamethrower so don't use it for long at all
>if you use the key lock and you lose the key, your door is locked to you forever (avoid using key locks)
>if you leave your code lock unlocked, anyone can change the code
>always assume someone is hiding outside your front door with a shotgun
>always get an airlock up first so nobody can kill you with your front door open and loot your base
>always put tool cabinet on first or second floor, it has a 50m (8 foundation) radius sideways and upwards but only a floor and a half downwards
>never trust anyone
>killing animals is the best XP
>semi-auto rifle is a relatively strong gun and you get it at lvl 18 and it's cheap
>levelling using barrels at satellite dishes (most barrels spawn there) can give you some great starter gear + a lot of XP
>if you farm at low levels instead of looting barrels/boxes, be sure to make a spear or two, and a bow + arrows as soon as you can
>bears and wolves will fuck your fucking shit up, always carry a building plan and some wood, make a foundation + stairs on top and hop on to shoot them with a bow and arrow
more incoming
>that nasal-voiced faggot
Yeah, no.
part 2
>nobody will ever find your small stashes if you aren't stupid and you're not being watched, place them in a bush and hide valuables in there (e.g a gun you found from looting barrels)
>place a sleeping bag near said stash
>try and get sleeping bags down in lots of different places until you find a comfy place to build
>consider making a looting/hunting lodge placed next to a loot area/mountain with bears for loot and XP, while making your actual base in a remote area
>don't bother with eoka or revolver, waterpipe is alright but if you miss you're fucked, double barrel does same damage as waterpipe and has 2 shots but is harder to aim, i just avoid shotguns altogether
>practice on battleground servers to get control of your recoil while firing guns, although you probably won't ever get to the AK level if you are playing solo
>large furnaces are exponentially more effective than small ones, but require a fairly large building around them, look up smallest possible rust large furnace house
>keep in mind that people can boost on top of each other (you can jump on top of your friend and then jump again to get over a 1 high wall)
>it's easier to shoot you through your windows than for you to shoot out of them
>avoid creating light at night, although the new patch fucked night vision
>don't let people near your tool cupboard, they will take over your base if they can build, it's best to seal it away behind walls if you are playing solo
>if you get a decent base going, make sattelite tool cupboard buildings because sometimes people can build upwards with a raid tower and just jump onto your roof and blow downwards
>the oldest tool cupboard is the alpha tool cupboard, so if you place a cupboard just outside the radius of the alpha toolcupboard, the area where those two radius' meet is controlled by the alpha and not the newer tool cupboard
>if you are playing solo, prepare to be fucked by larger groups if you are not better than good at pvp
part 3
>med syringes are extremely cheap, bring at least 6 if you intend to fight
>med syringes don't stop bleeding, use bandages for that
>medkits are too expensive
>sheet metal doors take 1 c4 or 4 satchel charges to blow up, make sure to upgrade to armored asap
>it takes 7 pickaxes to destroy a stone wall from the inside (structures have a weak side and a strong side, the weak side can be damaged by tools) so make sure you place walls the right fucking way around
>use ladder hatches to move between floors, stairways are fucking annoying and easier for raider to move between since they have to destroy the ladder hatch
>you can get up to 4 chests on a large shelf, use R to rotate while placing an object
>don't rage when you die/get raided, most of the stuff im telling you now you won't fully learn until you learn the hard way, it wipes fairly often anyway so don't get too upset over it and take each loss as a learning experience
if you have any questions then ill still be here but i'm done typing for now

Community is more cancerous than LoL, and its a waste of time to try to play solo.
This is legitimately one of the worst games, gameplay-wise, I've played recently. Every few big updates I'll try playing it again - m-maybe it'll be good this time! - but it never is.
I still follow their dev blogs though, because they're great. It's just a shame that it's such a fucking chore to play it. Unless you have no life you literally can't have fun with this game.
>and its a waste of time to try to play solo
This can (and should) be said about any modern competitive team-based game.
Not defending Overwatch, just saying that OW is not alone in this.
>Unless you have no life you literally can't have fun with this game.
Or unless you have friends to play it with.
I'm not making the "it's fun with friends" excuse because that can apply even to shitty games, but Rust is an inherently team-based game. It's completely different when you have someone to play with, particularly if you're on skype or teamspeak or whatever.
Build and stay away from crowded areas until you are absolutely certain you know what you are doing, this included bringing any items you cant afford to lose outside of your base, even if we are talking spit distance
Double doors,
More doors
Split loot into diffrent rooms (Not sure what the ideal design is in the "new" rust, but back in legacy it we made a house that required no less than 360+ c4 charges to empty all the loot crates because they were split and mostly empty
Make decoy rooms, houses, anything
Die alot and become an absolute god with pistol because, pistols will land you the most kills and secure the most loot while being expendable
Eventually you will have a fuckton of fun building towers at crowded places, slamming ISIS flags on it and shooting randoms who raid you with bows and hatchets while screaming in french
>360+ c4 charges to empty
That's pretty fucking impressive. I could never be bothered to split my loot that hard. Just too much of a pain in the ass to find anything.
it was fairly simple since ceilings were/are unbreakable in legacy, we made a 64x64 2 story metal house in hacker valley, mostly with stuff we got from looting our rivals house in next valley, we ran everything from next to our crib in french and when we were done with that we ran everything into hacker valley and stored it in a 1x1 shack while building. We ran during night time and were only killed a few times and lost what i assume would have been half the ground floor of the house.
It was the best fucking feeling when we split up to run resources across the map, either standing alone in the dark building for what seemed like an eternity, or when running materials and coming back to what used to be a 1x1 and was now a fucking palace.
People eventually showed up while we were building it and our first 4 layers of empty decoy rooms were breached before we had even finished a sniping outpost, which soon became a get sniped outpost
Legacy looks like shit and was fucking retarded and buggy but i had 500 times more fun in legacy than i ever did in the newer one
>Legacy looks like shit and was fucking retarded and buggy but i had 500 times more fun in legacy than i ever did in the newer one
Same. I still miss it sometimes. It's completely dead now though, isn't it? Last time I checked like half a year ago, there wasn't a single decent server. I think they intentionally killed it by making it impossible to have both versions installed at the same time.
...
i havent been in it for about a year or something i think, i really gave up on it eventually because we couldnt find any decent server to stick with, which was fucking unfortunate since we had a fucking blast playing on a few of them but they wiped them almost daily because "it attracts new players"
its equally hard to find a decent server in the new rust aswell imo, since we are only 2 left to play it and most others are groups of +8 and though we can get on top of them we cant stay on top for very long
>its equally hard to find a decent server in the new rust aswell
I haven't played for several months but yeah, there were always very few good servers.
I hate most modded servers in new Rust, I just want a good vanilla server with some slight improvements (auto-closing doors and the like), is that too much to ask?
Did they ever revert that patch that made brightness hacks useless?
>yeah spend half your playtime in utter darkness! that'll be fun!
If you have friends to play, you will have a lot of fun.
If not, you will drop it very soon.
>There are actually forty Gokus in that picture
wew
I concur, and add that it is basically unenjoyable alone due to its mechanics, unless you are spending decades in game and are extremely autistic.
Ultimate retardation.
Wait until thursday when the new update hits.
Shit is going to get insane and the value of weapons will rise.
Stock up stone spears and spam those motherfuckers from your hotbar and kill nakeds to get profit.
Thanks lad, will do
is it really this thursday ?
Or play in the pre-release to try shit out
OP here, so generally what I've gathered is:
-make my friends come with
-split up loot
-kill
-barrels
-play on /dayvote servers
Quite a list you've got there. Why don't you just learn to play the game? No matter how many things you'll read, you'll still be a noob for a long time. The only way to learn is to play.
Also, I suggest you play on servers that are as close to vanilla as possible, that is, without teleportation and all that shit.
Elaborate?
