Owlboy release in half hour

store.steampowered.com/app/115800/

Didn't see anything in the catalog.
Am I the only one interested?

I was interested half a decade ago

Looks interesting.
Let me know if it's any good, thanks.

Can't wait

Yes.
I've been shilling it for free these past days because I just know it's going to be something special, and I want it to sell well in order to send the message that hard work pixel art pays off.

Hell yeah! I feel like I haven't heard anything in a long time, but this is great!

Is this going to be the new Undertale?

Oh shit, thanks for making the thread, OP, i dodnt even think owlboy was still in development

Why would you insult this masterpiece?

Hopefully not, it looks like it might have a chance to be good.

>it's "le indie masterpiece flavor of the month for mature gamers like me"

no thanks

What's the price? If it's not $9.99 then I'm pirating it. When the price is hidden it usually means it's going to be overpriced... I bet they're going to try and charge $19.99 for it.

>mfw I learned about owlboy on a stream that got me into a social life 6 years ago by meeting up with the other regulars.
Man.

torrents where

I'm interested in it, but man it's hard to justify 22 dollars for a game of unknown length. Also, it comes out in 1 hour 10 minutes, not 10 minutes.

Undertale was good, too. And Sup Forums loved it. It wasn't until retards started going to MGSV and other threads and bragging about it that the backlash started. Then it got really popular and Sup Forums did it's normal "it's popular, so it's shit" bologna.

24.99 dollars

Source: their website

>all that dithering when clearly the color pallete supports a high bit depth
>hard work
Some things just rub me the wrong way

>only six more years, and I'll be able to release my own pixelart game of the same quality

Gratulerer, devs! Er så glad på deres vegne! Hvis dette spillet suger, så dreper jeg dere

It's $25 and it's not hidden. The price is never shown if the game isn't being sold yet and it's not being pre-ordered.

Worthless autists will always find something to complain about, so that's alright.

It seems to be a bit more gameplay orientated than underpants.

cant wait for the torrent

Jesus. That's way too much. Why in the hell do indie developers think there game is worth so much? I know it's a lot of work, but not many people will throw out that much cash on a game they've never heard of.

I feel like the only indie dev that actually prices their games correctly is Zachtronics.

It's poor form to immediately get mad when someone posts the tiniest criticism of your likely-to-be-shitty indie game #92385746, user.

nice blog, keep it up pal

Dumma norrman brevare
I really hope its good, six years in waiting after all.

thx m8 I'll be sure to seed that shit up

I'm interested when it gets an 80% off sale.

Anyone buying the special edition from indiebox? It's literally only 5$ more.

It's got a GoG release, so it shouldn't take long before a torrent pops up.

You just don't know anything about pixel art, you see large blocks and think "oh pixels!" because you didn't actually grow up with them and know what they're supposed to look like

This art style is *very* inconsistent. Having dithered and non-dithered assets, in the same goddamn scene, is very jarring. They don't mesh well. It's like having polygons and sprites in the same scene, you just don't notice it as easily because you're a layman with no taste

"Hard work" is not this. It's clearly been developed by different people over a very long period of time and they threw it all together. The result is something that doesn't fit together nicely and it shows

Shh

just pirate it until it's on sale. Or don't buy it at all.

fucking sweet

>It's like having polygons and sprites in the same scene

Literally every 3D game does that you fucking mongoloid.

It looks pretty and all but that pricepoint is going to bite him in the ass for sure.

>implying that if it wasn't on GOG it would have taken longer
it was obviously not going to use denuvo.

The Witness had no problems at a $60 price point.

I mean, not much longer for sure. But GoG speeds the process up significantly. Don't even have to repack it.

If i, as someone who has no taste, cant notice anything wrong, why would i care? Id have to be a retard to care about some spergs opinion, if its pretty to me its enough. If you can make pretty work with little effort, who cares.

The Witness was only $40 and had 50 hours of content.

This looks like a 4 hour pixel game.

Witness had a 40 dollar pricepoint it absolutely for sure harmed their sales. There was countless posts remarking that they weren't gonna pay 40 bucks for it on the steam forums and on here.

And it was notoriously bad during the 5th-6th generation

Seems like it's a 8-10 hour game going off reviews

Still overpriced

Remember Hyperlight: Drifter was a 15 dollaru 16-bit 30 fps eyesore and people bought the fuck out of that.

Can't wait to play this. Of course Sup Forums kiddies would shit on it.

more like 8-bit and don't remind me

>no dithering
>clearly dithering
ayy

it's not Sup Forums fault if a game is shit.

20 bongs here in bongland

haha, that's a good one. I'll wait for the mega

It's your fault for having such shit taste retard.

Most people here seem to like it though, if you don't count a few contrarian redditors who hate everything 2D.

I don't see anything wrong. Then again, I'm not autistic enough to care.

enjoy your 25$ turd. Hope you preordered 9 years ago, faggot.

>$24.99
That's a good one. I'll just buy it on Steam and refund immediately. These indie games that are on GoG usually don't have Steam DRM and still work after a refund.

you know that you can use ANY steam emu if it's only DRM is steam, right?

My buddy got an early copy and seemed to enjoy it. Here's his review of it: youtube.com/watch?v=EHO9wc4bcrQ

you know that Steam isn't the DRM, SteamWORKS is, right? the point that user was making is indie games often don't even use that so you can just download the game and play without ever starting steam

>"IT DOESN'T MESH WELL"
>"Looks fine to me"
>"BUT M-MUH ART DEGREE"

scene indicated that DRM as Steam, fuck off.

metacritic.com/game/pc/owlboy

Looking good so far but I can definitely see how the $25 price tag is gonna hurt sales.

If Steam is DRM then why can I still play my copy of Stephen Sausage Roll that I refunded months ago?

To be honest, it could be a stylistic choice. See how the dithered blocks you showed are both either in the background or foreground. The middle where you are supposed to focus on is not that dithered, making it sharper. This actually helps the composition and makes it more pleasing to look at because there is distinction between gameplay area and side graphics

>indev for 8 years
>fotm

I have a feeling this is one of those games I could go in knowing nothing about and end up loving, like Cave Story. It's a bit expensive though, waiting for the torrent.

just because he has worked on that ebin pixelated game for years it doesn't mean it deserves anything more than fotm.

>I will never be this autistic
Feels good.

Pixelshit stop shilling,
It's pixelshit open your eyes sheeple

I can recognize the obvious effort put in to it, but none of the design stands out enough to make me give a shit about the game.

I would grab it 100% but the price is a joke hence I'm still not sure.

It's a comfy 2d pixel game made by superior Norwegian devs.
Haters can fuck off

translate pros and cons

No you EOP

I'm mildly interested but the price point seems a bit high. I want to see some reviews first. Seem a very high quality indie thought

...

...

>no dithering boxes
>there is dithering
you sound like a faggot no dev that's shitting on someone successful

>norwegians
>anything but cucks
pick one (1)

I just plain think dithering looks bad with 16-bit colors, which is what this game is

Dithering was abandoned in favor of gradients in the SNES era. You really only saw dithering in 8bit games

Holy shit, I thought this died like years ago.
>$24.99
>WAAAAH WAHH ABLOOOO BLOOO THAT'S TOO MUCH BAWWW HURRR DURRR
Said only the jobless fagglets who have never worked in their life.
You little pieces of dick sucking sons of whores have no idea or concept of how hard it is to create such detailed 2D sprites, this isn't even Memetale tier pixelshit, this looks fucking gorgeous and is on par with SNK/Metal Slug.
Go buy your next $60+$40 season pass for cut content COD/Battlefield/COD and choke on a bag of cut jew dicks, knowing you enable big corporations to continue taking hot steamiy turds of shit into your mouth at full price, while you complain that a couple of dudes spent years painstakingly making this as a labour of love and passion.
Just pirate it if you are too cheap to give them money, but shut the fuck up about the game being "overpriced"

>also available on GOG as an alternative to lardass kingjewpig Gaben's Juden DRM
Two copies bought for me and my best friend.

>ywn be the guy that gets paid to make arts and crafts for Arby's Twitter

Some of the snow is in the no dithering boxes because I'm not autistic enough to draw exact lines around the areas with and without dithering. The table, door, hut, lamp, etc, are all color with no dithering

>I'm not autistic enough

Don't sell yourself short user.

Right, cause everyone lives in murrica and 25 is nothing for them

Undertale was a masterpiece, quit memeing

I don't live in america and 25 is nothing

You're the one picking on my boxes

I'm at least critiquing actual art

I bet that you also believe that you're """rich""" because you always have the latest iphone and those without it are just poorfags.
Would you buy a McDonald's quality hamburger for 1000€ just because you can afford it?
k y s

Not my point tho

My personal translation:
Pros:
- visually stunning little marvel
- incredible sense of details
- magnificent soundtrack
- nice gallery of characters
- smooth and varied game progression
- Neither too short or too long
- carefully written narration and dialogues
- secrets for completists

Cons:
- bosses are conventional and routine
- target camera can be disorienting

But belle of characters is really strawberry.

Yes. People will play and love and discuss it for the first month, and then people stop talking about the game itself, and start talking about the act of liking or disliking the game.

Is this a metameme?

What do you guys think is the best price point for an indie-game?

And what would justify a higher price point for you the most? Game length? Graphics?

no, just neoneoneoneo-v

>neither too short or too long
this kinda worries me

Shovel knight is $15 and a way better game.

15$ would be nice for this game. I don't mind paying 20 for games with much higher replayability.

There are old games, both 8 bit and 16 bit, that use dithered and non-dithered assets in the same scenes.
