Just do not do the greater leveler sidequest with maribel.
I.e. when you get great leveler, don't return to the past and talk to the wizz with her in the party. Remove her and then do it. You'll know what all this means when you get far enough.
You just have to grind levels. My party was in the high 50's before I could take Him out in under 20 turns.

If you just want to see keifer, download the tablet. That boss has nothing to do with the dlc.
And just so you know the sidequest is available way earlier than the point the glitch can occur at. Most people miss it completely though since there's no obvious hint telling you to go back to the past a second time.

I did it at around 40 just fine. Just gotta Oomph people up and spam Sword Dance/Multifists/Blade of Ultimate Power
After that just pray he doesn't make you waste too many turns or spam too many Bolts from the Blue.

I didn't have to grind in 8 and I beat the game entirely without grinding (yes I know DQ7 on 3DS was made easier in the beginning but I didn't in the original either)

All classes are viable. You'd want to have one that have access to multiheal, though.
All classes have good shit. You'll want at least one person with Multiheal though, you can learn it permanently from a Healslime Heart
