The PS4 definite edition of this game is on sale for like 7 bucks.
Is it worth it? I'm not too crazy about GTA games because I always find the combat lame and story boring, how does Sleeping Dogs compare? Is it like GTA or Yakuza or its own thing?
The fighting mechanics are top-tier, the only thing that let me down was the driving.
Ayden Walker
I definitely liked it. It's pretty fun, it's funny at times, theres a lot to do. The fighting mechanics are sorta arkham-style and really rewarding. Gunplay is a little awkward at times, 3rd-person covershooting. Driving is floaty
Isaac Cox
Great game with much better fighting and story than GTA imo worth 7 dollars
It's a virtually weaponless GTA with a MUCH BETTER story.
Gameplay is cool too, but you'll definitely want to play through the story. The ending missions are some of the best ever.
Jack Jenkins
These posts sum up my feelings pretty much.
Michael Hernandez
GTA with melee combat, a great story and asians. But the driving kind of sucks.
John Johnson
I don't like GTA and liked Sleeping Dogs
Xavier Lee
Can I use my UK paypal on the US store?
Alexander Phillips
would have been much better if driving wasnt so shit
Christopher Johnson
It's a lot of fun actually. The fighting is fucking awesome, the shooting is aight, and the driving can suck at times. The story is really good, and the voice acting is good. It's 7 bucks, i'd go for it. Plus I'd be playing it now if i didn't have a paper to write. .....................aaaaaaaaaand i'm gonna play it
Ryan Bailey
It's a missmash game. Bits taken from everything else:
>GTA open world >Arkham Asylum combat >Wheelman car bashing and airjacking
There's a clear True Crime feel running through it too, bit that's to be expected since its history.
Plus the story is stellar too. It's a no holds barred Chinese-em-up.
>tfw no pork buns
Anthony Perez
It's like if you took a shitty version of GTA and gave it Batman combat. Also, if you do want to play sleeping dogs, DONT play the definitive edition.
Liam Wilson
definitive edition is better because it comes with a shitload of dlcs. Most of them are meh, but its still a value for your dollar
Cooper Davis
I just thought it was okay. It felt like it was trying to do too much. The fighting was good and the gun shooting was weak. It felt like it was copying GTA and then tossed Batman in the mix. If a sequel is made, I say skip the guns altogether.
Hunter Fisher
I haven't played GTA5 yet but it blows 4 out of the water. It has one of the best stories in video games (pretty much Donnie Brasco) and it's really fun to play. People that worked on Need for Speed handled the driving. It's also a really nice setting. Even though I 100%'d the game I drive around Hong Kong just for fun. Also is pretty funny when it tries to be but it's a serious game.
Jaxon Sanchez
It's the best GTA clone out there. The setting of Hong Kong is interesting and the fight mechanics are solid. It also runs very well on the PS4. Story is meh, but the John Woo stuff (bullet time etc) makes up for it.
Brandon Collins
How is the driving shit? It was not only fun but had really good handling. It's not hard to drive full speed down highways and not crash. As I said in another post, it was handled by people who worked on Need for Speed.
Jordan Bennett
It's a very good game. Driving was fairly shitty though. Wei Shen motherfucker who are you?
Jayden Gonzalez
too bad Triad Wars bombed before it could ever become something. I had some fun in it
Tyler Perez
>Driving was fairly shitty though. How the FUCK??
That was widely considered one if its strengths.
Jace James
Got this arround the same time i got GTA V and it blew that out of the water.
The story and writting are pretty good, the combat is fucking fantastic. Think Arkham/Shadow of Mordor, but actually good. You can't just mash the counter button to win, you gotta time shit, you have to combo some enemies. It's really fun.
Loved the game and went into it expecting nothing.
Luke Perry
Its honestly like a good mix between yakuza and gta. Gta because well, cars and openworld shit. But also has the in depth combat and fun minigames like yaluza.
Story is also above average as well.
Luis Powell
>driving was bad
Literally what? The driving was solid
Easton Hughes
It's pretty great. It is more GTA than Yakuza in terms of moment to moment gameplay but with eons better hand-to-hand combat and a well told but tried and true uncover cop story. Totally worth the 7 bucks...even sweeter if you are getting the DLC on top...even though Halloween is over.
Owen Gomez
Dense as fuck locale and pork buns.
Henry Bailey
Played the original SD on PC and looked at the definitive version on PS4 and it seems fine. You can cherry pick weird exceptions all you want, but the value to dollar ratio with all the bundled DLC, cleaner graphics (1080 v 720) and better framerate seals the deal.
Also...just play on PC. Port is great.
Isaiah Anderson
Goes on sale on steam pretty often, get it there since it's probably much cheaper than the PS4 version.
Great game.
Carson Garcia
I don't recall the driving being anything special but it wasn't intrusive. Only played it on release on PC with 360 pad.
Caleb Wright
The combat is great Atmosphere great Great story
I thought the driving was fun after I got used to it (took me an hour) The gunplay is decent but nothing special fighting is where it's at
Ryan Lopez
It had the best driving out of any open world sandbox I played. Usually they are crash simulators.
Robert King
this senpai don't understand the plebs complaining about the driving the only thing i think sucked about driving was reversing camera but you don't spend much time reversing
Josiah Myers
I rented it back in '12 and I bought it when it was 5 bucks on PS4 which is one of the biggest steals I've made. Fun combat, decent story but it gets really rushed at the end. Pretty good game 8/10. Nightmare at Northpoint was a mediocre Undead Nightmare ripoff. The DLC that's basically Enter the Dragon is forgettable except for the fact that you get to unlock drunken boxing. The Year of the Snake DLC was fucking amazing, as you get to shoot protestors with gas grenades.
Get it.
Hudson Diaz
>mfw wearing the Cop uniform throughout the whole main story
Made all those "Are you a fucking rat?" convos hilarious
Parker King
I don't like GTA games because they lose focus and turn into "drive 10 minutes for no reason, shoot someone and drive back".
Any chance I'll enjoy this?
Levi Lewis
its fun body slamming all those guys into the grinders at the end of the enter the dragon dlc. and drowning about 30 buddist monks one after the other in that temple fight mission.
Hudson Flores
Yea it's not similiarr to GTA
Levi Ross
>Also, if you do want to play sleeping dogs, DONT play the definitive edition. it's not that bad, all those comparisons weren't using ultra settings
it still is objectively worse though, so no he isn't cherry picking.
Nathaniel Young
Will there ever be a sequel?
Connor Butler
no, united front the studio that made it was shut down a couple of weeks ago.
Lucas Wood
It's like GTA with Arkham combat, there are guns but they're pretty rare.
Charles Lopez
everything is more fun than GTA, even police chases. police cars actually drive around you and ahead of you, which feels like a real chase and allows you to toy with the AI. too bad they give up far too soon though
Kevin Russell
How good is the combat?
Eli Reyes
It's Yakuza if more items in the environment all had their own unique Heat action. It feels way faster when it comes to fighting compared to Yakuza though.
Cameron Rogers
A brawler with guns at powerups in the beginning at least.
Towards the end it relies on gunplay a lot more.
My memory could be wrong though.
Jack Martin
nah that sounds about right, great fuckin game.
Andrew Walker
Driving was insanely floaty. Easy to look past but if you're used to playing games with better driving it's hard to be satisfied with
