>Have to go to prehistoric times to find a good one which I haven't played (Phantasy Star IV)

Why is the RPG scene so fucked up? Every game is made for babby and people with no taste

Genre got fucked up by the transition to HD and is only just recently starting to pick up the pieces

>only just recently starting to pick up the pieces
How? With that FFXV turd ?

Oh god, no. I was thinking about stuff like Tales finally getting a new game that's good

because they are riskier and more expensive for devs to make due to a changing market.

basically, they got lazy and stopped caring.

one day the RPG dark age will end

Aveyond

Boom, there you go.

I played through the first 4 Dragon Quest games in the last few months and had more fun with them than any RPG made in the last 5 years.

>he didn't play the fifth one

That's what I'm currently playing of course.

undertale

...

talking about DQ, is the remake of the seventh one on 3DS any good?

been playing turn based rpgs for 18 years, is it really that good?

I know that feel too damn well user, having to consistently replay old games makes me depressed. I heard the Trails in the Sky games are good, should i give it a try ?
Since the original is perfect i don't see any reason for the remake to suck

it's nice. Very charming and emotional. Now go in before spoilers arrive.

>Phantasy Star IV
Good fucking choice, user

I'm proud of you

Anachronox is really a phenominal game if you don't mind turn based combat.

This.
Look at handhelds, the RPG scene is still fine on there. It's the transition to big budget HD games that has really fucked the genre up.

D:OS is ok if you don't mind running around the first town for 4 hours, the wall of text dialogue spam and unbalanced gameplay. Just don't read up on it, go in blind and try figure shit out.

Hey OP, I think I remeber you. Wasn't you the one asking about the series some weeks ago? And I insisted saying it was "the genesis' chrono trigger"

I got you OP
Just play this fine game

But the graphics is beyond terrible.
Even pixelshit is more tolerable.

This

>handhelds
>mostly remakes/ports and subpar shit like Legend of Legacy and Bravely
>fine

Not really though.

Please neck yourself if you're one of those retarded turboweebs who thinks Bravely is good.

It's alot more easier and less grindy for the job stats, the monster hearts drops are still a pain, but the most beneficial improvement is that you can avoid fights

Is Legend of Dragoon actually good?

Don't forget the literal panty quest simulators

Times change grampa.
Try the RPG Codex if you want a hugbox to snuggle into.

That place is overrun with RPGeezers who can't into games anymore.

This is a JRPG thread right?

I'm looking for something to play on 3ds. Do I need to play SMT IV before Apocalypse? Is Soul Hackers worth checking out? Is Stella Glow any good or is it just luminous arc 2.1? How's the new Langrisser game?

Not necessarily, but it really enhances the experience to play it before hand Apocalypse is based on SMT4 neutral route

Soul Hackers feels dated, but I found it quite fun despite being rage enducing at some points, like the fact that you use magnetite for just about everything and never seem to have remotely enough.

It looks like Deus Ex.

Avadon 3 came out just weeks ago
There's no goddamn way you finished it already

>Tales
>good

Nice joke the last 5 games are garbage yes that includes Berseria

>"Go outside, stop hating and alienating yourself and stop being a loser."
Might as well ad "And then become a lesbian." to that, since that's what half those characters end up doing.

Graces was the last good Tales game and that's still bad news because the characters were awful and the most insufferable of them all is the main character.

Stop trying retarded EOP, how the fuck can you say if Berseria is good or not if you never played it?

> if you never played it?

I have a hacked PS3 and can read japanese unlike you you piece of shit.

The only neat gameplay about it is monster capturing, I think other DQ games are done better. They tried too hard to cover MC's whole life, so there are a lot of time skips which makes the whole story feel disjointed.

Other DQ games don't have monsters? I know 9 had you make your own party but I always thought the monsters were pretty important because there are so many monster based spin-off games. Doesn't 7 or 8 even have Terry the monster rancher himself as a party member?
I really liked the early part of traveling around with your dad, don't really know how things are going in this second part of the game because I spent 4 hours betting on monster fights and then took a break to play Civ6.

Play Jade Cocoon if you haven't. The one on PSX. Disregard the one on PS2.

I've been going through Vagrant Story recently.
It's confusing, but pretty fun. I wish I understood the crafting better, though.

>Derivative anime trash: the series
>good
>ever

that game is soo good with many memorable characters I only wish there were an in game menu showing wath every spell does.

Damn good taste
>tfw Air Castle

If you've already played the Dragon Quest Monsters games, you'll find it very underwhelming, but the story is absolutely top-notch.

Those are my favorite

now this is true L U D O

I've heard good things about those games but I always thought they would be super easy to show off all the monsters.
Recently I've been playing Dungeon Traveleres 2 and it's the best game out there behind Etrian Odyssey 3 and it's full of cute half-dressed girls so now I can't even measure this sort of thing. Is it really that good?

Some deep shit right there.

there's still a fuckload on ps1/ps2

-the genre got hit hard with increasing game costs starting at ps3
-a large chunk of jrpgs never made it outside japan.
-new adhd kids can't handle turn based games and even some can't handle random battles.

Have you tried

Trails in the sky: FC and SC

konko is cute

Everyone has been mimicing FF7 for ages, and the only lessons they took from that game are cutscenes, minigames, and enough grinding to come out to the required 70+ hours of gameplay.

Moe Chronicle's alright but not on the same level as EO and DT2

Ah the nineties. When games were made for nerds.

Ask the average person on the street if they've read a book in the last year.
Games don't really cater to the non idiotic crowd anymore, although indies try.

Those traits look fun and cute. Just tell me it isn't way too easy.
Sorcery Saga had phenominal music and fun skits but it was ruined by being a baby game for literal babies. All these hundreds of weapon entries in the encyclopeida for forgning and upgrading stuff but you could beat anything with default stuff in 3 or 4 turns.
